I spent last Thursday, Friday and yesterday working on it. The roof has some rust, so it's time to paint. Here it is:

I taped over the back window(need to be repaired) so the water wouldn't get inside. I've hosed, scraped, scrubbed, sawed branches off the locust tree in front(used a sawzall instead of the chain saw, because I was afraid I'd fall off the old wooden ladder I was using-LOL). Just finding a ladder was a challenge. I was there alone, so I went inside the farmhouse and all I found were very big aluminum ladders and they were all on the second floor. No chance of me carrying them down stairs and out. But I'm the queen of wooden ladders - I've bought them for cheap and picked them out of junk piles - so I knew there was at least one there somewhere. Of course, the 'boys' had left it in the 'basement hole'(no stairs yet, just a hole). So I laid on the floor and fished it over and tied a nail apron onto it and hauled it up-HAHA-if I had fallen in, I'd still be there. Maybe we should fill the hole with water and use it as an indoor pool! :D

Anyhow, since it can't be seen from any road, I can paint this baby any wild color I can find. What do you all think? I'm up for something colorful. I painted the old house trailer a nice peaceful gray, just like the farmhouse, because I wanted it to blend in and look like it belongs(it's really too old to be allowed under the deed). So help me out. Suggestions, please! :D

It's looking Fabulous! The shade that it is in gives it a blue tone, but where the sun shine hits it- it is a fabulous shade of yellow! It looks amazing!! Great job!

Is it starting to look yellow? The color is 'cornsilk' and it's hard covering the whiter than white primer coat.

I think the light is making it look paler. The middle pic on the back looks closest.
Here's what I'm going to use for my logo - change the wording, but use those big, fat, block letters and those bee images. I bought this glitter iron on transfer on ebay. My dh held it with a light behind it so it's easier to see.

Yes, Ann. I think a daylily would be good on there somewhere. I just got the bees I'm going to use. I bought a vintage glitter iron on transfer on ebay and the boy and girl bees and the chunky block lettering on it are just what I've been searching for. It says: "BEE HEALTHY, EAT YOUR HONEY". I'm going to redraw the letters to spell: "BEE HAVEN" at the top, over the bees and:
DAYLILY
FARM
underneath. I'll post a pic when I get something drawn.

Janice,

I just missed this whole thing. Love the yellow with bee's theme. It sounds perfect. What about daylilly painted on there somewhere too? Perhaps the landscaping will be pleanty?

One more thing I learned about the aluminum roof paint.....I went to an actual paint store for the primer and when he put the paint on a shaker, I just happened to ask him if I'd have to stir it because when I had bought the roof paint from Home Depot, the boy there had shaken it and I still had to stir it when I went to use it. The man said : "He SHOOK aluminum roof paint???" "That stuff could EXPLODE!"
.....oops.....just remember that if you need to use that stuff.

Well, progress is being made! :D One eight hour day(only one break) of painting, painting, painting and ladder hauling later, here it is with one coat of primer on it:

I was surprised the paint was white. I expected some ugly automotive gray thing. But it looks nice and clean and fresh so far. I'll have to go over the parts that were that tan color - they are kind of showing a little bit.

Okay, now after reading all the replies and seeing the yellow one..I like the yellow too ...hmmmm ... At ANY rate, it's going to be adorable!!

Before I read any other replies, I immediately saw pink! Maybe because I love pink (surprise, surprise) and that's what I'd do!
lol! PINK!

I do need a bumper sticker, Jess. I need to scrape and paint it first, though. I'm going to have a busy week. The daylily beds are awash in weeds, too.

I am getting a kick out of this thread. That coral pink was the color of my prom dress. haha. I really like the soft yellow with perhaps black accents for the honeybees. :-) That would make the cutest office or shop if you wanted to do that. It won't be complete w/out a MJF bumper sticker on the bumper!!

Where have I been....that camper is so cute! Is this a new fad or something? Are there a lot of these available? Any color you pcik will look darling...how can you go wrong? Pick a theme like the bees and go with it. Now if it was me...I've always wanted a cabin in the woods so I would somehow paint it so it looked like logs and then little green shutters and flannel curtains...you get the picture...a lodge theme. You could do anything with it....how fun is that? I know...a lot of work too but just think what you'll have for years and years after it's done...I'm so excited for you...I want one too!

Glad you liked it!, I was having a kinda blah Friday and felt like coloring!! It realy was no trouble at all. I like goofing around on the computer & when I am at work that is all I can do!!It helps pass the time!!
I had one more idea!! You could paint the word BZZZZZZ!!! On the roof, just for kicks.
Really only you and maybe some one in a small plane would ever know it was there!! :) I like secrets!!

Miss Bee Haven Posted - Jun 28 2008 : 09:24:07 AM
Thank you Bridgette!!!!! That's so ME!!! I've been thinking about some shade of yellow/honey/bee related. And bees! Thank you so much for going to all that trouble! I'm going to show this to my dh. I think this is IT! :D

Since you're Miss Bee Haven, the yellow with bees seems appropriate. However, that coral and blue combo strikes my fancy, too. And by all means flower boxes, shutters, an arbor, a flagstone path, and a pretty flower wreath on the door that changes seasonally. And a rocking chair somewhere nearby.

I think the yellow with bees is great!! I have an old 1965 Scamp, camper. My husband bought it for 300.00 it was a mess and I was not to happy about it But with a lot of hard work he made a really great camper out of it. We use it all the time. He saw the potential in it.
