Posted - Feb 17 2008 : 6:36:47 PM Tonight, I was wondering how easy it would be for "him" to find me on the net, so I googled myself. When I typed in just "Corrine" I got 17 pages worth of listings. Now, I always thought my name was kind of odd, so I was very suprised by that result.
Oh, BTW...I didn't find me at all!

Posted - Feb 24 2008 : 12:55:26 PM Well, my folks thought they were being unique in 1959 when they named me Karen, boy were they wrong. the really Silly thing is - my pop's 1st cousin, in the same town, named her first daughter Karen a couple years earlier and pop forgot. In kindergarden i was with 2 other karens in a small class and in college there were 4 karens just on my dorm floor (about 40 girls, so 10 percent were karens) My neighbor across the street is a karen and when i work the lavender fields harvest festival each year 2 other workers are named karen... on and on it goes... my best friend from college (one of the karen's on my floor) married a david (as did I, just a different david) so when the four of us go out to din-din it is "Hi, this karen and david and that is karen and david..." goofy.
My middle name is unique, Lisette. I have always wished i was named for either of my Grandmas - Lisette or Mattie lora. Anything but karen.
When i google myself, i come up as a opera singer back east and other karen england's around the nation before my business and magazine articles, etc... comes up. I will have to work on getting to the top of the karen google search heap...
good question! love, karen

Posted - Feb 24 2008 : 12:26:45 PM Well, according to my mum, when she named me Meghan, it was a very uncommon name! Lol. It must have been the same for MaryJane's Meg. I've met a very few Meghans older than me, but younger - phew! There's loads of them. I've always gone by Meg though, because when I was little everyone used to spell it wrong, or mispronounce it. My middle name is Jane - passed on through the family for a few hundred years. And my last name - let's just say if I went to Wales, it would seem like everyone was related to me. =;-)

Yes, I call all of my kids by each others names. What mom doesn't? I have one sister and my parents always call us by the other one's name.

Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 1:15:50 PM Well friends, LINDA is about as common as they come but I am grateful for my name as my Mother had a list of wierd names like "LIZBIT" which was the number one choice. Thank God I was early and she forgot the list!
My daughter's name is Elora and we have only met 2 others with the same name which is really nice for her. She loves it!

Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 12:36:09 PM I've always loved the name Annika as well. There is something so pretty about it. As for me...Elizabeth is pretty common, and so is Elizabeth Ann, which is fine by me. I love having a simple, old-fashioned name. It fits my personality. Lots of nicknames to choose from, too! I just don't like being called Liz, as it somehow doesn't suit me. I think that's because they called me Liz in school, before my parents made the very wise decision to pull me out and homeschool me. Ever since then, I've been trying to convince friends and family to call me Elizabeth and give up on the nicknames! Though I don't mind it when my cousin calls me 'Betta.

Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 12:09:29 PM Mine is really pretty common in Northern and central Europe but not here, though it is gaining some ground. I've had several babies named after me. I was an Annie in school and my dad who wanted me to be a boy, I think, always calls me Nik

Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 12:01:53 PM I am a Linda---In the forties that was the most used name for a baby girl (John for boys--guess what my brother's name is)I always put my inital with the Linda because there are so many of us.
Today the name is an old name and I don't see it used as much. In large group of women there is usually another Linda and we are about in the same age range.

Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 05:40:18 AM Everyone calls me Toni, but my real name is Antoinette, so that is not common at all. Couple that with my maiden name of Overturff and my married name of Lovelady and you get a VERY uncommon name!! I have never had to worry about confusion over someone else having my name, just misspelling. Or people thinking I was a guy. |
Annab |
Posted - Feb 19 2008 : 03:35:12 AM My first name is uncommon
Not too many annas out there but 2 in the section where I;m working. It gets kind of confusing, so we go by either anna michele or anna marie
My maiden name is a double L Willson. Not many of those at all
Guess the double L got dropped at some point. Happy to know my brother has 2 boys to carry on the name
We found a double L years ago in Customs going through Sydney. The lady who stamped our passports was also a double L Willson Pretty cool! |
