Ok ladies, not like I can do it like Frannie, but I'd love to see your decorating styles. I know we sorta did this before but I'd really like to see and maybe even get some ideas (imitation is the highest form of flattery isn't it) I just love to peek into homes! :) Bring them on.....

I am working on finding ways to disguise my husband's love of technology and gadgets with sweet country style. In reality I just want my house to be comfortable and a place that feels wholesome and restful to all who come by.

I love this thread! What wonderful ideas!!

Mine is cottaqe style with leanings toward french country. We have an old, non descript, remodeled bungalow style farmhouse. Simple, comfortable and colorful are the theory my decorating is built on...but a fear of color, chronic procrastination and MOUNTAINS of unfinnished projects have the whole place about 2/3 finnished. If only I could post the picture in my head.

We like simple lines too, but our house doesn't have a true "style" other than "Hand me down mish mosh". I love it though because almost everything has some sentimental value to it. We have a lot of light gold, sagey green and soft whites. Our furniture (couch and loveseat) is mission style, but then we have a 1960's occasional chair and an old bureau in the living room, for example.

When we lived in South Dakota, we had a ranch-style home that was decorated rustic/western. Dh and I both love that style. Then we moved into an old farmhouse and none of our decor fits. So we are gradually switching to rustic cottage, although $$ is tight so we haven't done much yet.

I love very simple lines. Think Shaker-style. Uncluttered. It makes me feel like I can breathe.

Of course, with two little boys, the idea of living without clutter is merely a dream at this time in my life!

Our style up until recently was what I call comfy modern, very clean lines and neutral colors, but all very comfy and relaxed... and boring, to be honest. Now I'm getting more into a "girly organic/green/natural shabby chic" mode with a heavy emphasis on textiles and handmade things, but we're on a budget so I can't redo everything all at once. :)

We recently re-did our bedroom... bought a plain green bedspread, combined it with the existing ivory sheets and pillowcases. I bought some 108" ivory muslin and made simple curtains... I finished the cut edges but left the selvages as the bottom of the curtains unfinished. I also covered the existing wall hangings with a pretty green leafy calico by duct-taping the edges of the fabric to the back of the frames. We added a faux bamboo tree from elsewhere in the house and some green lamps to match the bedspread. I love it because even though there's a definite color scheme (green/ivory) and the lines are clean and modern, there's also a very simple, homegrown/organic feeling to it.

Now I'm hooked on covering existing picture frames with fabric... did it tonight in our guest bathroom. For the price of a yard of calico you can have new focal points that match your colors/theme! You can also put a little foam in between the glass and the fabric and use it as a bulletin/picture board.

My next project will be the kitchen... I'm thinking deep, darkish teal and hot pink... and doing a somewhat kitschy, retro kitchen with embroidered hand towels and wall-hangings, a broom with an apron on it, and maybe a flamingo will make an appearance too. ;) I keep drooling over a 50's-era pink stove, but that won't quite fit in the budget. LOL

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

well .. since taking all the stuff off the walls to have them painted .. i 'might' get into a 'slightly' less country cluttered look. oh gawd! i LOVE country clutter!!!

going to put stuff back 'slowly' .. pick and choose and probably let some treasures GO! (ha! time will tell!) OR it might just give me an excuse to go antiquing! xo

I think my style is country comfortable. No chrome and glass here. My kitchen tries to be 1940's style sort of..which I love..and my living room is more primitive I guess. I love old stuff. My house is an old one too..the original part (it has been added on to here and there in a silly loveable way..was built in 1895.

I'll post pics of my new home in a while, after I get the unpacking finished. The worst part of moving is the unpacking, but the best part is a clean slate for decorating!! And I do love decorating (residential planning/design major)!! It looks too empty and thrown together right now to really show my style... it's 'in the process'. Haha...the corners where I don't know WHAT to do to spiffy 'em up...I lovingly refer to those corners as 'potential'.

WooHoo!! can't wait...after 45 years and still counting of traveling I will be sooooo glad to dig in and plant my feet for the rest of my days..But as they say, It's all about the journey...and collecting is just a wonderful thing..

Oh I would love to have the french country look but, I have a DH who loves the relaxed messy look. He hates to see the vacuum come out. He just says "everything looks fine". There is no theme to what I have in my domaine.

We just had two furnaces installed. The two heat pumps are coming up soon. The next thing will be insulation. We may move into our mobile home out there this year so we can work on the house more often. I'm ready to finish! :)

I think my home style is a combination: moving van full of junk store crap collides with another moving van full of old family crap, plus a smaller moving van filled with books. I live in hope that one day I'll make a wide path in each room through to the front door and the back porch...

Thanks Janice!!!! As I'm washing windows thinking, "I don't want to move.", I needed to hear your warm welcome!

I can't wait to see your house too. I looked at photos a while ago - when you first bought it and started the renevations. Are you moved in now? How is everything going?

You have a beautiful home, Ann. That sunroom is fabulous. And I love the fireplace. I'm sure it won't be on the market long. And Hooray for us Kentucky girls! We get a new sister! :)

Northwoods Lodge is my style. We bought a newly remodeled modified A-frame house. The previous owners said they wanted a feel of a mountain retreat and they did it successfully. Feels like we're on a ski vacation all year long. Jim in fact skis in the back almost every day. JoAnn

My style is really "morphing" lately. I was quite "English Country" and still like a lot of that, but I am really going primitive lately. There is something about the look that speaks of simplicity, longevity and peacefulness. So it is still "in the process." I will try to load some photos to the blogspot I set up and have never used! LOL!

Brenda

I am not sure what you would call my style? I love old...very old. And when I can afford to change it will be even older. 3 of my sister-in-laws (they are sisters...yes 3 of my husbands brothers married sisters) they all love country but the nice oak and everything prissy. Nothing wrong with that at all, their home is beautiful but not me. I have been in the family almost 31 years and always felt a little uncomfortable when they come to visit(this is not often)but last year I heard one of them telling a friend, you should go to Joy's house she has the neatest things and has a nack for displaying them. I would have never thought that have ever crossed her mind. ha

My style is cheeky beach meets Texas cowgirl with a hint of vintage 1950's with a splash of shabby chic,(phew)...I have pink flamingo lights in my kitchen and yes, I do have a pink flamingo lawn ornament. I like bright caribbean colors with a toss of Texas red, white and blue in there. I especially love turquoise, hot pink (flamingo again) and lime green and a dash of white to keep it grounded...if you can ground my style!! HA!!!! Right now, I have a lot packed up until we move (again) and get out own house- then I am going to go to town.

I grew up in a basic white walled, blue, orange and biege home that was very traditional and antiquey, so I LOVE LOVE LOVE COLOR and fun stuff!!!! Especially on the wall. I also look for texture in everything. We eat off bright spiral colored plates, drink out of Margarita glasses and We use beach towels instead of regular towels.

I have always dreamed of a fun, funky, beach house and since that actual reality may be years away or even never, I decided last year to just do my house up the way I want to if I had a beach house. A lot of people comment how fun my house is and it is so different from what they would expect. I work in a really conservative office and have had a few people over and they all get a kick out of it.....

I like really comfy furnite- the bigger and more overstuffed, the happier I am. I mix in a few colorful beach/adirondack chairs and some typical windsor style chairs but recovered in fun 50's prints.

When we do get out house, I would love to do open shelving in the kitchen and have a lot of windows and french door leading to a huge porch outside, which will be surrounded by a cottage garden....

My house always makes me smile when I come through the door...

Cheers,
Heather
