Posted - Jun 21 2007 : 08:33:23 AM Hello farmgals! Is anyone else interested in meeting and picking strawberries together up at Greenbluff? Let's make it a fun get-together. Morning would be best before the heat sets in. Let's find a day between the 24th and 30th. Do any of you have a favorite grower you go to that you would suggest?
Strawberries: Friday, June 29th. Knapp's at 7 am. Who's in: Carol Sue Teresa Me We make a difference. |

Posted - Jul 03 2007 : 09:55:58 AM Sorry about that. It was all those years of grammer that makes me put a period at the end of a sentence: ) There was an article about it the Home section of the Spokesman Review. JoAnn |

Posted - Jul 03 2007 : 08:52:56 AM Hi ladies! I think she put a period at the end of the sentence with the link in it, so the forum thought the period was part of the link. So here is the link

Posted - Jul 02 2007 : 3:59:18 PM Carol Sue do you know about the Lavender Festival near Cucick this weekend. If not check it out at www.lavendercreek.net. The farm is not too old and this is maybe their third festival. It's beautiful right on the river. There is a charge to get in but I feel it's worth it. JoAnn |

Posted - Jul 01 2007 : 10:17:49 AM Marcia- I am not sure if they are ready yet or not, I have not had a chance to go check. Last year they were ready really early. I know I was eating some in August and there were lots that were already overripe.

Posted - Jun 30 2007 : 11:17:21 PM Ok, somehow I missed all of this. I haven't been on here all that much lately. Alee.....the blackberries at Granite Point aren't ready yet are they? Seems a little early. Granite Point on the Garfield Co. side of the river is where my family is from...mostly. My Dad was raised on a fruit ranch on the river a little farther west from there but his family always went to Granite Point for a picnic on Easter Sunday. Most of Granite Point was blown up before they built the dam.
Anyway....I might be up for picking blackberries, depending on the day.

Posted - Jun 30 2007 : 3:56:00 PM Hi Michelle!
The tee shirts can be found here : http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/shirts/
I like the men's baseball shirts. They are the long sleeved tee shirts. I have seen Meg wearing her's and I think they are so much fun! :)

Posted - Jun 30 2007 : 09:46:54 AM I just looked for Tee Shirts and didn't see one in MJ's product line. That would be such an icebreaker and so easy to spot. 'Course, I could make my own...
Well, Teresa and Carol Sue, we sure gave it a good try. At least we were all out on a pretty day in the same field. :) I ended up with 16 lb. berries. Processed all of it, which is good, because I've agreed to tend a friend's berry patch while she's out of town for a week...so I'll be seeing berries dancing around my head. Hmm maybe I'll make a cross stitched hat band with berries doing just that. And Farmgirl in a pretty scrolly script. Good sit-time activity when I'm pooped from daylight work. I just love the way ideas come pouring out of these conversations with everyone!

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 7:30:06 PM I didn't realize until I got to Spokane that it's hoopfest weekend. I think we must have a lot of extra berry pickers. So sorry to have missed you. I need to tie a purple flag to wave over me, or wear a really outrageous hat...but I don't like the attention so much. I wonder if we were at the same place? Knapps? Well, I hope you had a lovely time. I found a little nest with an egg in it laying in among the berry bushes. Must have been a killdeer. They lay 2-3, and maybe this one was a dud? I certainly hope it wasn't frightened off the nest by pickers, though if it was, with only one egg, she must have had time to set up house over again in a more private place. Enjoy your berries! Hope to see you next time. I'll think about finding a more obvious marker for myself.

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 7:14:51 PM Michelee, how funny we looked for a purple car but would you believe there were several. That lady that got miffed was in the first 6 rows. OOOOOhhhhh how stinking funny. We are doing jam tonight. I had to take a nap cause I didn't fall asleep till 4am this morning. Ughhhhh, what a great tool for mashing berries. I agree wow were there a lot of people. We thought about hollering huckleberry but chickend out we should have the the grandbabies do it. LOLOLOLOL I sure do understand bushed......

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 7:04:28 PM I was surprized by the crowd, and the number of people that fit your description too...but I missed the scarf in your hair? I looked up each time the cart came by. Left at 10. I was in the first few rows trying to be easy to spot. I thought about running through the field, calling you, but I'm not that brave yet. So sorry to have missed you too. It was a great morning...but how very crowded it was.
All I can smell is strawberries...ah! Made strawberry/honey wine, strawberry jam, an interesting berry wine jelly that looks so pretty and is begging to top a cracker w. cheese, and the family is drooling at the thought of strawberry shortcake. I think we'll have strawberries for dinner. I'm too tired from preserving to go back into the kitchen now.
Here's a picture of my little berry mashing friend. It's an egg with a face and little chicken legs with feet loops for mashing hardboiled eggs, but is just right for mashing berries. It fits nicely in my small hand too.

Thank goodness for Alee. Looking forward to seeing y'all when she says it's all set. :) For now, I'll just have to eat these biscuits I baked up this morning to share for breakfast...oh, I guess I did make shortcake after all. I'm pooped. And happy.

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 7:02:25 PM Double bummer Michelle, you should have seen Teresa walked up to all the ladies with hats on. One lady got miffed at her cause she was in her row checking out her hat. It was tooooooo funnny. Grand daughters faces were covered in strawberry juice and I forgot to take a picture. UGGHHHH Okay we will see you for sure in Moscow......

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 2:20:44 PM Oh No! You all didn't meet up? Thats too bad!
Don't worry! I haven't forgotten about the blackberries (or black raspberries...whichever they are!! LOL). I just haven't had the time to swing by to check on them yet. I am hoping to do that tomorrow or the next day!
Hugs!
