Hello farmgals! Is anyone else interested in meeting and picking strawberries together up at Greenbluff? Let's make it a fun get-together. Morning would be best before the heat sets in. Let's find a day between the 24th and 30th. Do any of you have a favorite grower you go to that you would suggest?
Strawberries: Friday, June 29th. Knapp's at 7 am. Who's in: Carol Sue Teresa Me We make a difference. |

| i said the 29th because that is the day i dont work. I think carvers is the farm to go to, i will call to find out if thats the one i am thinking of. so how far do you think 10 dollars will get me(thats all that i am budgeting for it this year). that and the 5 dollars that i will spend going to the red barn for pesto sauce(yummmmmmmy). He is an italian and it is soooo good. they have their own little farm and i am all into supporting them even if it isnt a whole lot of money and besides my hubby loves the stuff. |

I would be willing to go- but we have to see what the gas budget is going to be looking like. With driving down to go berrying past Granite Point and then going to your place, Michelle- I have to be careful not to over extent my budget! How long does Strawberry season last? Would it be possible to do it after the first week in July? Although I seem to remember some of us Berry Girls are going to be gone in July?

| alee you could always see if someone is going to go from your area and carpool or have them getr the berries for you or meet at someones house that is close to you and carpool that way your gas budget wouldnt be strained that much. |

Okay, 29th looks good to me. Let's call Carvers to find out when they open and what their prices are. My jam recipe says 10 lb of fruit will yield 11 pints freezer jam. Fresh pesto sounds marvellous!
Alee, big hug and we'll have a get together with your blackberries. There must be a special place in Moscow to get u-pick strawberries ...hmmm... seems like I read about it in our favorite book... :) With all the gas expense, plus buying the fruit, it does eat into the savings/health of doityourself gourmet. I'm working on my own strawberry patch, but so far it only makes enough to enjoy a few out of hand. I've got big plans for my runners...
Also, I'm having doubts about the currants at my place. My test-picking showed me that lots of them are wormy, and that just doesn't sound like a good hostess thing to share. I might be able to get together enough good ones to make a batch of jelly (wine?) which I'd gladly share with you and the other gals. There will be other opportunities.
We make a difference. |

Mich, you are right, unless you are on "Survivor Island" the grubs(worms) do not sound appetitzing. 'course, given enough wine, ya just might not care about the grubs anymore....kinda like the Tequilla w/the worm!. I'll still pass, thank you very much! hee hee!

You gals are so funny. You sure make my day filled with laughter. I vote no on the worms, yes on the wine. See you in the berry patch.

Teresa-
I agree! Maybe we should do it on a Saturday- Moscow Farmer's market in the morning and berries in the afternoon? Or would that be too much traveling?

Sounds fabulous Alee! And ditto on the company being worth the trip. You know, the 29th is going to be Past Blessing's grand openning, and I think her shop is close by the road I take to go to Carver's...so it will be a natural to stop in and see what she has and maybe share some berries too. I just love the way she decorates.. the cutest things!
If there are grubs in my wine, does that make it tequila? :)*doing tequila dance* Tequila! One batch of grub-free wine is at work...will be ready for next summer. There are no wine dances? I'll work on that idea.
We make a difference. |

Okay, Friday the 29th Strawberry picking at Carvers Farm (morning), followed by pesto noshing at the Red Barn, and a visit to Past Blessings Grand Openning Antique Junk shop. I'll call and arrange a time to meet at the berry patch and re-post on the first message, and if you want an individual confirmation e-mail me that you are in for strawberries. What a great time it will be!
We're agreed that currant picking at my place is out this summer.
And the lovely Alee is putting together another soiree for blackberries/Moscow Farmer's Market...date/time/place sounds like the following week / TBA.
We make a difference. |
