Posted - Jun 13 2007 : 03:22:41 AM So ladies who do you like? I consider myself a conservative democrat, but I have really liked some local republican politicians so maybe I'm actually a liberal republican? In any case according to polls/press it seems Hilary is getting the go from the majority of "low income" women. I'd like a woman in the whitehouse! Though I am so disappointed in our current leadership...sometimes I don't know what I think or want! I like a few other candidates but don't want to support anyone who doesn't even have a chance of getting on the ballot!

Posted - Jul 10 2007 : 3:15:53 PM I have not decided who I will vote for...I have been thinking about Obama, Richardson, or Edwards. I have noted that several people have stated that Obama does not have enough experience. Does anyone remember back in 2000-2001 that it was touted over and over that the Bush Administration had the most people in it with the most experience and that would be good for the nation? That is certainly food for thought.
Maybe we need fresh new ideas and backgrounds. For me, I want someone who I feel will look at problems from ALL sides, ask for advice from MANY different sources and then make the very best decision possible, given the particular circumstances. I don't need someone with whom I agree all the time, but I do need someone who I know is intelligent, thoughtful and willing to admit mistakes.

Posted - Jul 10 2007 : 05:21:53 AM This has been an interesting thread. I don't remember who was talking about voting other parties, green, libertarian, etc...I had voted Haglin (natural law party) and then Nader in 2000 but I have to admit, I never thought that Bush would actually win (or not really win but still become president). Now I am a little afraid to vote that way. I feel like there is so much damage control to do now after this administration....I guess I need to really start doing my research. I do agree with Catherine, I don't think having a woman for president could hurt the way the world sees us. Honestly, how could our foreign relations get any worse? So far, I do like Obama as well. I'll have to check out Ron Paul, don't know him. But if Gore does jump in, that is probably where my vote will go. The environmental issues are very close to my heart and we've done so much damage and it is time to really step up!
oh, hi Jayne, your package is almost ready to send!

Posted - Jul 06 2007 : 09:02:34 AM I am usally a Democrate but if Fred Thompson runs I will vote for him. While in high school him and his girlfriend got pregnant. They married and stayed married a very long time. If he would do the right thing then I hope that means he would do the right thing in other ways.

Posted - Jul 05 2007 : 10:13:16 PM Hello Jo, I have been wondering how you are going up there? I am loving my sourdough book - it is great! Sorry to get off the topic here - I'll just add 'down with John Howard', especially yesterday after his Minister for Defence said out loud that the reason for our continued presence in the Middle East is to secure oil - at least they are finally owning up to what we have all known for a long time. It just makes me sick that politicians can play with peoples' lives like that and do it so dishonestly. OK, political rant over - you should have heard me talking to the TV last night!! Jo, are they still talking about the new oil exploration in Alaska?Best wishes, Jayne |

Posted - Jul 05 2007 : 05:57:55 AM I'm always nervous to post anything political here! But I have very strong feelings about the war and the currrent administration too. I think we are ready for a change. I'd love to see a woman in the white house. Someone with a mothers heart maybe wouldn't be so quick to go to war....Please don't take offense anyone.... |

Posted - Jul 04 2007 : 10:26:26 PM I can't say much about your election, girls, but I will be the happiest person in the world if John Howard is finally voted out (after the longest 11 years of my life!!) at the election here this year. I can't believe he has been our Prime Minister since before the birth of all my children! I am hoping his type of politics has finally run its course and Australia can get onto a more caring, less money at all costs agenda. Best wishes, Jayne |

Posted - Jul 04 2007 : 07:52:55 AM Who knows who will make it to the finish line? Sadly, the best candidates can't always raise enough $ to get there. I feel sorry for whoever our next president will be. That person has a monumental task in front of them after this administration. I don't know if 4 years will be enough to pull our country out of this world mess we're so mired down in. My faith in our political system has been greatly shaken with this current administration. Everyone needs to get out there and let their voices be heard. Vote at every election and pray we get it right!

Posted - Jul 03 2007 : 5:35:43 PM ArmyWifey- I'd like to thank you for the mention of Ron Paul, who I hadn't heard was running before reading your post. I am still looking into his stance on issues and his voting record, but so far, I'm impressed!!! (Of course the question is always whether that is a predictor of how candidates would vote while in office, but what else can you do?)
Thank you, thank you!

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 2:32:14 PM Catherine, You have a point. Maybe it's just me. I know women are equal and in some things surpass men. In my belief though Hillary is definitely not the female I would want to represent me. Maybe Condi Rice? I don't know.....

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 1:21:18 PM What about Margaret Thatcher (former Prime Minister of Great Britain) and Angela Merkel (current Chancellor of Germany). Having a women serve as U.S. President would in no way put us in bad standing with the rest of the world*. Indeed, it's time we follow suit of these and other countries with female presidents (there is at least one African country with a female president but I forget her name) and do away with the gender divide. Women are equal to men and are proving it politically (and in many other ways) around the world everyday.
Catherine
*It's my belief that it's our CURRENT president who has placed us in bad standing with the rest of the world...anyone, male or female, will be an improvement...

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 11:41:40 AM I haven't made up my mind who I will vote for but I do know it will be for the person not the party. Even if that means my vote will be viewed as wasted. But for all you ladies that are considering voting for Hillary, I just ask that you look at the world view. Most world nations do not view women as an equal to men. These are the same people that any president has to deal with for our safety and our economy. If we have a woman as president, and other countries don't respect her position or authority, what will happen to our foreign policies that our past presidents have worked so hard to put into place? I just don't think a woman president would be beneficial to the US in a world view. Not Yet, but maybe someday. Just a thought!

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 09:46:51 AM I usually don't like to get into political or religious belief conversations (I'm not a whimp, but have very strong feelings that may not always be popular). I have to say that I've read some very intelligent and insightful remarks here. Perhaps we should have a Farmgirl Party. Just kidding, but I am so hopeful that there will be a time (soon) when we can make our vote for an independent, libertarian or green party member really count and make a difference in our country.

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 09:29:50 AM I'm with you Amie. Voting party lines just doesn't work for independent minded people. I tend to lean towards Democrat, but there are some BIG issues, such as gay marriage, that I can't in good concience, vote for. |
| junkjunkie |
Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 09:28:11 AM The whole process of politics is so partisan and powerful, even if an independent were elected in office, their ideals would be squelched when it came time to try to pass something. You have the Congress and Senate, which are made up of the two major parties, and he/she (the independent) would have major roadblocks. And as we all know....the two major parties are bought and sold. Very frustrating! |

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 09:11:03 AM I think that we all worry about our votes going to waste, so we just pick what we can (the best of the worst, if you will). But, if more and ore people would vote their conscious, whatever that is, the paradigm will shift. It will take a long time, but it will shift. And the thing is, if you vote what you believe, then your vote isn't wasted- because you wouldn't have voted for the other candidates anyway based on your beliefs.

Erica the problem is these parties never even have a chance of getting someone elected sad...but currently true...that is why I don't support any of those candidates I don't want my vote to go to waste...the problem with this coming election is any vote could be a "waste" as there are no candidates I am even marginally excited about!

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 08:26:17 AM I agree about Edwards and his wife, Jonni. It seems that they've made that decision together, and the public shouldn't question that. |

Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 07:33:36 AM Sorry, at this point, I'm interested in everything you say pro/con about Edwards (and all the candidates) except that he needs to be at home with his wife. She doesn't WANT him at home! And largely, she's with him--a joint effort, and her decision. I feel like on a WAY smaller level, that my dh needs to play music, share his music. If that takes him away when I'm ill, then it does.
I grew up in a different home though, where work meant being away from home 7-9 months out of the year for my dad, so I could be biased :)

Posted - Jun 19 2007 : 5:18:56 PM Hmm, girls girls girls!!! If you REALLLLLY want things to change then you've got to change! Voting democrat or republican is basically the same thing. One party wants your money, the other wants your rights.. and the line is becoming less clear.. either way you keep giving them both up when you think you only have the choice of the lesser of two evils. Why wouldn't you vote for someone who may not have as good of a chance but you believe in them more??? Think about it.. the more people that start to take a stand against the republicans and democrats then we might actually get other parties noticed and elected. I encourage you to do your homework and find out what you really believe.. there are other parties out there.. liberatarian, constitutional, green...
