Posted - Feb 07 2009 : 11:58:17 AM We need a storage shed/barn. It doesn't need to be huge only big enough to store garden tools, Like maybe 8 X 10 to store lawnmower, rototiller, chicken feed & maybe 4 bales of straw? I would like to have an area to use for potting plants.. Any ideas of how much it will cost for me to build this for economically? Is $1000 unreasonable?

Posted - Feb 18 2009 : 07:50:34 AM Just wanted to add that there maybe places in your area to find old buildings. I know where I live there are many, and usually the owners will let you tear them down for the wood. There is quite a bit of good wood in these buildings, they were not used and just allowed to fall over.

Posted - Feb 18 2009 : 06:21:49 AM Cheryl it's funny you posted this because I was just now digging out an old "The Family Handyman" magazine I bought on impulse at the hardware store because the build-it-yourself shed on the cover was so gorgeous. It's only a 5 x 12 but supposedly you can make it for under $800. I can scan it and email it to you if you like, though you may be able to find something similar online.

Posted - Feb 07 2009 : 5:01:25 PM Cheryl - if you guys do it yourself you should be able to do it for well under $1000 (this according to my DH who is a carpenter). You could always try to find repurposed material too, of course sometimes the time involved in doing that is more costly than the actual cost but if you have a source handy... Amy Grace

Posted - Feb 07 2009 : 12:30:17 PM My 3rd daughters boyfriend who is in building is going to add on to the horse shelter. It will be 10X20. So that is 6 major posts the 2bys and plywood for the roof, the center line and one back wall and the materials were close to 600dollars. The compo roofings and mangers will be extra. Manger area out of scrap on hand so just more for the 3tab roofing. Probably 2+ sq. I think you can do it at that for materials. MB
