I had my hair cut about a month ago but have only been mildly happy with it. Today my sister bought me a razor comb that I had asked her to pick up for me ($5). So before I used it on the dog (the reason I wanted it) I decided to do some trimming on my hair. It was so much fun! Those things are addictive! I could totally see me shaving my whole head with that thing! LOL But I did cut off a good pound worth of hair. I think it looks better, but I am waiting for it to dry for the final verdict. Maybe I will have to go back to the hair salon and get my hair trimmed by a professional. LOL

This is what my hair looked like in March *ugh*:

This is me and my hair today!:

Sandra- I can actually still put it up in a bun. It's a little skinny bun- but I can still pony tail and put my hair up. I hate the hair in my face too- especially when I want to get something done- but this way I also have a "down do" as well.

If you want to still be able to pull your hair back, just start razoring about an inch or so below your chin line. This will give your hair amazing lift, thin it (less weight) but still leave enough length to pull back.

Thanks ladies!

Yes, the razor comb can be addictive! I cut it twice to achieve the look I finally got and let me tell you- I took a LOT off and that was even after a Wal-Mart salon stylist cut my hair!

I too have cut my own hair for a few years now. Of course that's what I did for work before I had my brood of boys. I was never crazy about the razor comb, but I know they can be addictive and your results are GREAT!

Oh! Alee...you are gorgeous! Before and after! I have not been to a "hair stylist" in years. I wear my hair up in a bun so it gets heavy when it gets too long and I just cut mine myself last week. I cut it wet and just sort of split it into 2 pieces one over each shoulder and then I cut with a scissor...this time it was about 3 inches at least...it had been awhile!
I have thick hair too but the razor wouldn't do for me since in order to "defy gravity" and get it up on my head it needs to pretty much all be the same length but if it wasn't for that I would try it..it sounds great! It must be the season to cut hair!

I like both the before and after! The after makes you look a little younger, which is silly to say since we are about the same age and someone said that to me a few weeks ago when I got my hair cut and I was thinking "What, I look five now?!" lol Excellent job doing it yourself!

Alee, you are a cutie patootie! I love it. I am getting a perm on Saturday. I have shoulder length hair- a bob with a few layers to make it wispy- a bit above the shoulders. I am having my hair dresser use larger rollers so I can have pretty soft curls.

Thanks for the sound advice, Alee. It just makes sense to ask my hair dresser why she uses the tools that she does. I have an oval face so just about any hairdo will work for me. But I've had long hair my whole life, minus when I lost it due to chemo years ago. It's now midback length and up in it's never ending pony tail. Since I'm nearing forty, I've been thinking I'm getting too old to have it so long. I just don't have the heart (aka nerve) to cut it again. Your new "do" sure looks good on you though!

Went to the hairdresser today, for a cut and color.
I have had red in different shades the last year or so, and now decided to go brown again :)
My natural color is dark blond/brown. I just wanted a change (Fall is around the corner :D) and I really like the result!

Sorry, no pictures. I live alone, well with Elvis, but he can't make pics (he is my kitten :D)

I like your hair Alee, looks good!!

Michele-

My best advice would be to think about what types of tools your normal hair stylist uses on your hair. A razor comb works great at thinning my hair, but I think if held at a more shallow angle it would work great at giving you a nice feathered look. However, I am not 100% sure. I have fine hair...but tons of it. So it gets heavy really fast. When I do get my hair professionally cut I ask them to describe what they are doing and why so that if I decide I want to change it at home (like I did this last time) I will know how to continue the style and work with my hair type.

Looking at your pictures and reading about how all you brave women have managed to cut your own hair, makes me want to give it a try. The only thing is that I have long thin hair. It's blond and very fine. Would the razor comb work for me too? Maybe just on the ends or are they more for thinning thick hair? Thanks for your help and God bless!
