Posted - Aug 21 2012 : 4:43:20 PM has anyone done this?..if so do you need to cook the pumpkin first or can you just peel it & make thin slices & dry....I don't have the space to can pumpkin while I am in NY nor will I have a freezer so would really love to know if this can be done so I don't waste my time & energy to try it & have it fail...thanks hens...Michele'

Posted - Aug 22 2012 : 08:13:39 AM Thank you very much Melina, that is wonderful so now I know I can try this.....i hope to do a couple of sugar pumpkins this way then grind in into powder to add to the Chickens warm oatmeal breakfasts this winter......plus now I can also dry them over the woodstove as well so thank you very very much for telling us this....Michele'

Posted - Aug 21 2012 : 6:51:56 PM I did this with a couple of Halloween pumpkins last year. Granted, I made them as dog treats, but they did dry very well. I just thin sliced them, skin on. They shrink up like you wouldn't believe! The dogs loved them and they're so much better for them than store-bought stuff from China. I'm wondering if you could bake them in the oven, then dry the puree like you would fruit leather?
