I was mad at myself for letting a bag of potatoes "go" today. Now I don't feel bad.. I am going to do this tomorrow! Thank you for sharing a great idea!

Hello,
I have offened wondered if I could use large plastic barrels with hole cut into it similar to a strawberry clay pot. We have these huge blue plastic barrels that I could cut holes in to, plant and then tip over to harvest. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this or am I out of my brain?

I have seen the black pastic bins that Dorothy is talking about in garden magazines. I have been tempted to try it, looks pretty easy and would be better then digging through the dirt for the spuds.

Around here, old timers save tires and stack them for the same thing. I've never done it, but I've seen tires stacked up in people's gardens for this purpose. I hear the yields are great. And if you already have the tires....

My mom has grown them in the black plastic round bins(the kind with holes in them. She just layers the spuds with grass and hay.Last year I dug down as far as I could go and put the spud in and just kept putting more hay on. As the potato grew up through the hay,I kept layering away.Boy did I have alot of spuds and it was sooo easy to pull off the hay and get those puppies.Lots easier than digging through dirt!
