Posted - Aug 11 2005 : 11:35:34 AM Hey Farmgirls, I just wanted to share a little tip I have for watering plants. Take plastic pop bottles or something similar to it and fill it with water and plant it into the ground near your plant. I usually plant just the top of the bottle into the dirt. And depending on what kind of soil you have, over time the ground will draw out the water. I like to do this when I go on vacation or if I'm too busy to water the gardens for a week. I learned this from my environment teacher in college; he was teaching this method to farmers in Africa who have large crops and little equipment. Let me know if it works for ya! Aubrey |

Posted - Aug 11 2005 : 11:51:51 AM I used to do this in Calif when I lived there. Here, with our clay soil and a big layer of straw mulch I can go awhile between watering..no teenagers at home anymore either..so no big stash of pop bottles....haha It does work though!!

Posted - Aug 11 2005 : 11:44:24 AM Hi Aubrey! My mom has tried it this year with her Tomato plants, I have thought to do the same. It would be a time saver, plus for plants like tom's I know it would make them happy! Simply Julia
