Some of us are still in the throes of cold weather and it seems that hygge:a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture), is popular these days. I have been seeing lots about it.

I'm sure many of you have heard of it. Do you practice it or maybe you have without knowing it had a name?

I had see n that word - someplace - but did not know what it meant. I guess, in a way, trying to clean out and reorganize different areas could be a part of that. I feel more comfortable when things are not cluttered, but sometimes in my craft areas the clutter comes back as soon as I start another project.

As soon as I clean out an area it feels lighter to me. The craft area is an ongoing especially if I don't clean up after. I think our library is the room that says hygge more than any other.

I have a lot of stuff but can't stand clutter. As soon as I finish one project I clean up before I start another one. Usually.....

It seems that January is usually an inward, staying inside, winding down from the holidays kind of month. I know it feels that way to me. I like not celebrating a holiday and just cleaning up and thinking about what one wants to change in the new year. That process usually feels peaceful to me and a great month to read a good book and maybe makes some notes about whatever is on your mind for the coming year.

The past 3 or 4 Januarys Ed and I have gone on a 2-week cruise. That is our way of winding down. We come back tired but also refreshed.

John and I have practiced hygge a lot over the past 3-4 years! :) I have many books on the subject as well. My ancestry is Norwegian so I’d like to think that it’s in my blood! :) I know that it’s roots are danish but Scandinavian works for me! :)

I think this is a bit of hygge.

Winter wraps the world in quiet, inviting us to retreat into the warmth of our own cozy corners. It’s a season that welcomes solitude and stories, where a crackling fire or a warm drink become a companion and books are the gateway to endless worlds. In the stillness of winter, we find not isolation but the sweet solace of our own company.

Love the picture, love any picture with a mouse in it. All my husband has been doing since the first of the year is cleaning out. He has three shops outside. One wood working, one machining, and the other a repair shop. I have been trying too.
