Maybe she has her kitties there because she knows a farm is a good place for them.

Saasy- I didn't know cows got the zoomies too!

Morning and Happy Weekend to all of our Wildflowers!

I haven't had much computer time lately - Caroline has been here for a couple weeks and I'm just catching up. My son-in-law was bitten by a copperhead in their yard a few weekends ago - right before my daughter was supposed to go to the Netherlands for a study abroad trip for her graduate degree. Sadly she didn't get to go - but positively Caroline came for a visit as they navigated his hospital stay and recuperation. I just took her back and am looking forward to catching up with you all.

Please be careful in your yards this spring/summer as those unfriendly snakes are just popping out to catch the sun too.

Laura

Chris - I've personally never heard of tuxedo cows, but there's a lot that goes on that I don't know about LOL!

Laura - Yikes! I'm glad your son in law is recovering and you had a nice visit with Caroline. I'm so glad we don't have anything like that lurking in our yard! We did find a snapping turtle in the field though.

The 3 little kittens are running around like crazy now! I found 2 more tiny little ones in the barn. I think there's 10 days until the next calf is due :)

Oh my goodness! What a curveball in the plans, Laura! Did your son-in-law know what got him right away? I need to brush up on my snake ID...

Luckily he did know - he's a wildlife guy and works in forestry so he's familiar with snakes. It was a baby which they say is the worst because they don't have venom control when they bite. He had his Chaco sandals on and think he stepped on his back end so the snake bit him right on his instep of his left foot.

He was in the hospital 24 hours for observation and then stayed down for about a week. They didn't give him anti venom because of the cost and the possible allergic reaction to the anti venom. He was cleared for light duty but he's a hard guy to keep down. He bought a pair of Hey Dude shoes (think soft fabric boat shoes) and he said his foot swells to the shape of the shoe!

They can't do much to snakeproof their yard except to keep the leaf litter down (which is hard to do when you live in the piney woods of Arkansas). They have now bought a riding lawn mower and he's regularly running it around to make the yard more "unfriendly" to the snakes.

On a positive note - if snakes can be positive - they had a beautiful 4 foot King Snake travel across their front yard this week - they eat copperheads so they welcomed him (keeping their distance) and hope he fills himself up!

I sure hope he "heels" quickly too! Hubby loves King snakes for the same reason, they will eat rattlesnakes. I think I saw one king and a bull snake last weekend camping in the desert (based on describing them to Jens after). Zero problems with critters raiding our snacks on that trip, so that's another positive.

Oh my goodness Laura thank goodness he is recovering and be 100% soon. Will your daughter be able to reschedule her trip? I hope so.

I took this yesterday afternoon of our neighbor’s flower field near our house. He’s growing the flowers for seed. I was hoping the storm we had the other night wouldn’t strip all of the flower heads off but they look like they made it ok!
