Here we are at the beginning of a new month. Seems I was just writing this for October!
We had loads of kids here last night and almost ran out of candy.
Funny isn't it? We tell our kids to stay away from strangers but one night a year we let them get candy from them.
It is a beautiful first day of November here. We did get this big, what looked like a sheet coming across of snow right around 6 pmlast night . It lasted about 5 minutes and was done. The night before we had had our first heavy frost.

In this beautiful month of gratitude and giving what are you thankful for?
I am grateful for each one of you Scattered Prairie Gals and for all the farmgirl friendships I have made.

November is that tween month between the fall festivals ,leaf watching, and Halloween. I know some like to jump right into their Christmas planning and maybe even a little early decorating. Down here in Florida, our weather is still very mild and we are waiting for the color change of the few trees we have. It surely does not inspire me to do anything about Christmas. In this tween month, we will get some cooler spells still mixed with many days zooming up to the 80s. As a matter of fact, we just had 5 days of 86 and enough humidity to require the AC to go back on. I like November to be my quiet month, my tween month to enjoy the seasonal changes. Plus, I happen to love Thanksgiving and have many fond memories of big family dinners when all my older sisters and brothers, plus their wives ,could make it home. It was the time for pumpkin pies made from the fresh Halloween pumpkin meat that had been frozen cooked and ready to thaw and make into pies. It was also the time of year when all of the old Oak trees, which were the last to change colors, were ablaze all over town. The Thanksgiving weekend, we often raked the leaves, and made jumping piles before we helped Dad burn them in the backyard metal steel container. Thanksgiving weekend was a restful one growing up and I like to still keep it simple and slow like we did growing up.

What about you? How do you like to spend your month of November?

LOL! We had only 9 kids here. It was only about 40 degrees, so not very many young kids at all. Mostly teenagers, and they are really too old for T-or-Ting. LOL! I have lots of candy left to eat.

About a mile from here is a row of large vintage houses, and several are great decorators for Halloween. One house said they had over 1,000 trick or treaters and ran out of candy by 9 PM.

Linda,
We had some teenagers too. It never bothers me because I'd rather see them truck or treating than to have them out getting into trouble.

Our Thanksgiving was always a quiet family time. Still is now. But less family.

Zero trick or treaters…unless you count me. I knocked when I went out to get the mail and waited for John to answer the door! Lol. I’m so weird!

I love November because it gives me pause to stop and really think about all the blessings in my life. I’m thankful everyday but in November I like to share with those I’m thankful for and why. November also helps John and I quietly slip into our winter routine and spend some time preparing for the beautiful gift of the Christmas season. I’m thankful for my health (especially this year!), my Farmgirl sisters and their unending prayers, my family, my home, and my fur babies. I’m thankful for my gift for crafting. I’m incredibly thankful for all the blessings in my life! :)

Karen :)

Congrats Linda! I know this is a first for them in a very long time.

Karen that sounds like me or JT. Either of us would do that! It's good to have fun.

I am grateful for answered prayers for you Karen and I am grateful JT will be starting a new job on Monday. It is a much better job with great benefits, more holidays and I know JT is happy to be back in the field of chemistry again.

No trick or treaters for us this year. My husband was very sad - he had his giant bowl of cany ready & kept peeking out the window to see if there were any children in the neighbourhood. But, alas, not one!! I felt sad for my husband - he was so disappointed. Anyway, he took the candy to work yesterday and his colleagues at the office soon devoured it.

As much as I miss the warm days of summer, the cooler months heading in to November are a good chance to slow down and start thinking about what we are truly grateful for. We will have a big Thanksgiving get-together with my husband's family this year. I am always grateful for the food that we have on our table & the company that we share. We are truly blessed!!

I think with the schools having Trunk or treat and the malls having trick or treating to keep the little ones safe has cut down a lot on trick or treaters. I know it has affected them in my area or they go to another town,I don’t get any so I don’t bother anymore! I do miss seeing the different costumes and the little ones in their costumes..
Looking forward to November.

Hugs

We happened to have a great and fun neighborhood Trick or Treat year! There are many new families here with little ones and they were out with their kids. All of the kids and their parents were very polite and the family was sometimes all dressed up. It was fun to see because that has not always been the case. We too ran out of candy and had to send hubby out for more. I really don't mind at all if big kids trick or treat as long as they are polite and behave on the streets. I even had s few groups of University of Florida students stop by!! For me, Halloween is that one time where you can dress up , grab some friends, and get some sort of candy catcher and just go out and have fun and enjoy how people are decorating up their yards. With all the blow up stuff, people can create lots of scenes or highlight a favorite movie character. We had one yard that was a complete Barbie Wonderland Halloween set -up. It was so cute and everything was in shades of pink which was fun and different.

Happy November everyone, so enjoy reading everyone's post. We had no Trick or Treaters. Except my one grandson TY. He just turned 3 and he was loving it. Getting all that candy but mom doesn't like for him to have to much. But it was fun to see him all dressed up as a fireman. He got to go to the fire department and see a real firetruck and turn on the lights and siren. It was a good night.
Hoping all of you have a great November, I feel very blessed and thankful for all of you.

We took our grandson and his parents to the airport yesterday afternoon. They left for Jordan to visit their daughter (our granddaughter) for a week. They had a layover in London for 5 hours today and arrive in Jordan in an hour. We are on pins and needles while they are there. Traveling with a baby is not easy - they had 10 bags (that included 4 checked, 5 carryon, and stroller checked at the gate). WHEW! They were taking at least one suitcase of stuff that was to stay in Jordan, so it will be easier by a little coming home. LOL! They had the bulkhead seat with the baby "bassinet" on the first flight; it wasn't available on today's flight.
