Welcome to my favorite month October brings us blue skies, an array of gorgeous color, wonderful smells and sights, comfort foods and baked goods!
I love decorating for Fall and October seems to really start bringing people out and about with cooler days.
We have a lot of people who walk our neighborhood and it is nice to see them out and enjoying this gorgeous weather October brings. We have 2 family birthdays this month. My daughter and her youngest have their special days 3 days apart.
What do you like about October?

What I like about October is apples, pumpkins & butternut squash. It's a busy birthday month, my son, step-daughter and mother-in-law.

My neighbor across the street from me Loves Halloween-she has 4 children and they have their house decorated already and I saw the children already has some costumes on. They are so cute.
I will get a photo later.

I love October because it means it will soon be cool enough to go hiking again. I love the smell of the forest in the fall.

Welcome October!

"October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All bowed to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly 'hands around.'"

It's a chilly October morning here today. Though I wonder why in the Fall 40 degrees is chilly and in the Spring it feels warm. Lol. I'm sure it has something to do with the Spring bringing warmer air and the fall bringing cooler air. Either way it feels cold today. The nights have been cold enough for the heat to kick on at least once. I hope all of you who normally deal with high temps are getting a break from them now.

Here we are at noon and it's a pleasant 78 degrees. I'm loving this time of year when we can keep the doors and windows open day and night. No heater or air conditioner required. No major fires so the sky is blue and the air is clean. Heaven.

Happy October everyone! It's been a goofy year. Thought about all of you but didn't post. Sorry about that. Hope to do better. Thank you for the wonderful fall cards. Fall is beautiful in Minnesota. The trees are turning and we just got back from two days on an art studio tour on the north shore of Lake Superior.

Good to see you Bonnie!
I noticed yesterday that many of our trees leaves are starting to turn. I got a pumpkin yesterday. Today I will go and get some mums to add to the porch.

Pressing cider this past weekend. Friends do this every year. Not as many apples this year due to the dry summer.

Oh, Andrea, how fun to be able to press fresh apples into cider! There is nothing so delicious in the fall than fresh apple cider. I love that old press too. Really neat!! Where you live is great apple and other fruit country. This time of year is always special because the delicious apples are baked into pies , made into apple butter, cider, and so much more.

Phooey indeed -- Last week it was fall; this week we are back to summer. I'm going on retreat next week and will have to take a broad selection of clothes cuz who knows what the weather will bring.

Yes, good ole Indian summer! lol The day starts off chilly and brisk. I grab a flannel when I head out with the dogs to let the chickens out to free range. By noon it's warm, the flannel is tied around my waist and I'm turning on fans! ugh. I'm ready for the "real thing". A little bit of rain would be nice to clean up the air too.

Jennifer,
That is how it was in NJ at this time of year. Cool mornings but warm by afternoon. Lived there for 30 years and I always wished for 4 actual seasons. We did get them but they were later. Maybe because we were by the water.
Here you can tell the difference. Everything is definitely on time.

We haven't had rain in a few weeks so our grass is turning brown. Don't know if the last mowing was the last one or not.
I went yesterday and picked up some pumpkins and mums for the porch. I will definitely have to keep the mums watered daily. We went to a farm market about 20 minutes away and found they only had small ones left and all the same color. On our way there we saw a home made sign for mums and decorations. We decided to stop and see what they had on the way back. Drove about 5 miles down the side road and found a small farm that had pumpkins, corn stalks and mums. The mums are huge and only $6 apiece. That was a fortunate find. I may end up planting a couple of them. I put my little hay bales out there for the mums to be up off the ground with a pumpkin or two beside and in front of them. The mums are not open quite yet.
