Happy September! This is one of my favorite months. Apples are ready for picking here. Going to try and get some dried apples, apple pie filling, apple butter and apple pie jam made this year.
What is on you calendar for September!

We are going on Saturday to take all 4 littles to the local dairy for lunch, ice cream and seeing some animals. Maybe putt putt golf thrown in there. The 3 girls will take turns spending the nights on Friday night through Monday.
Do you all have plans for Labor day? We will spend that with the family playing games and a picnic.

We are leaving on Sunday to go to a funeral in Indiana for one of Ed's cousins. Not sure how long we will be gone. Ed wants to go up to Michigan again and also Ohio. I'll try to keep in touch.

Hopefully Indiana and Michiga will be cooler than here in Texas, though temps are coming down a little bit.

Oh Labor Day Weekend.....Lord have mercy! lol We are headed into 111* degree weather here in California and on Saturday I've got a wedding to photograph. Weather says it'll only be 106* there. ugh. lol
I'm praying, praying, praying for a cool breeze of relief to come through for this sweet couple and their family. What a way to celebrate new life when you're absolutely melting! :P
I'm very much looking forward to the temps cooling off soon. I suppose this is truly an Indian summer!

Denise, you will be busy with apples soon! Yesterday at one of the grocery stores here, they had bags of Ginger Golds and Paula Reds from an orchard in New York. Of course I had to buy a bag of each!! Love the new apples that have not been in a storage place since last Fall!

Linda, have a safe trip and so sorry for Ed's loss of a cousin.

Jennifer, I hear your plea to Mother Nature! This high temps are awful as well as miserable. We are a virtual swamp over here with rain every day and everything is soggy . Each day is the same thing; hot, humid, rain showers, repeat. We won't be seeing much of any cooler weather until the last of September and then it will only be for a day or less. All the cool fronts just fizzle out at the Fal. Ga. stateliness until more into October.

We will be gone on a trip to Germany from Sept. 7-24. We paid for this trip in 2019 and so we either had to go now or loose the money. My doctor said it should be OK now for me but I need to mask up all the time and stay out of crowded places as much as possible. Wish us luck for staying well.

Glad to see more apples now. We'lkl have to pick some up in Michigan and Ohio.

So glad the temps here in Texas have cooled down a bit. We had rain most of today and that helped cool it down quite a bit.

Have fun in Germany, Winnie! Enhoy your trip!

The golden-rod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian’s bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest,
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
the grapes’ sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.
~Poem, 'September," by Helen Hunt Jackson, 1830-1885

I'm not sure what happened but I have a feeling this month is going to speed by. Our calendar has been filling up for this month. We are spending time with family, babysitting and friends coming for a visit,friends leaving,family coming for an extended visit,spending time with the grands. That is just the first couple of weeks. Want to go pick apples. Will do that on a weekend with the grands. Then fall will be here officially shortly after that. How is your September shaping up?

Denise -- your upcoming month sounds delightful. Enjoy!
Today we will mostly be trying to stay cool and hope there are no power curtailments. The weather here is predicted to be 115 today and tomorrow. We are asked to set our thermostats to 80 between 4 to 10 pm. I am tired of the heat; the only time I have been outside in the past two weeks was to water plants and take the vacuum cleaner to the repair shop. I am really trying hard to stay positive and happy.

Denise, sounds like a full month ahead and a fun one too!! I also love that Sept. 3 poster with the apple tree! So cute!!

Judith, I hear you!! I too am so sick and tired of this awful heat and humidity every day.! I just looked at a 10 forecast of the some cites on the trip and it looks like mid 60s-to 70 with night in the lower 50s. Its will be wonderful to have those temps. I am happy that at least some place in the world is approaching Fall and temps are going down.. I know Europe has had blistering heat spells this summer and they are not used to it and many have no air conditioning.

My emergency plan if there is a blackout is to fill the bathtub with water and sit in it. Unfortunately the cold water coming out of the tap is 91 degrees but still cooler than outside or inside without the a/c. I'll just pretend I'm at the spa.

Judith, I'm right there with you! I've rescheduled my appointments for yesterday and today since I work outdoors and it's unbearable! We were holding our breath last night when the dreaded 5:30pm hit...waiting to see if our power would be turned off or not! My husband looked up our zip code on the PGE website and it appears that our immediate area is exempt from these types of blackouts! Hallelujah! So So grateful! So today I'll try to keep the dogs occupied and cool and the chickens cool as well. Looking forward to cooler temps next week.
