February is a busy month around here. We have 5 birthdays to celebrate this month. 3 in the next 2 days. We actually celebrated those this past Sunday as work schedules wouldn't allow us to celebrate together unless we did.

I have been making out some Valentine cards and thinking of things for the grandchildren this year.

What does your February hold for you?

Denise~~

We started with a bang! My hubby found a big box by the gate this am. He could not pick it up...too heavy! So he went to get Julie and they loaded it in the back of her truck, then she was off to bay's new place. We followed and eventually they put together a kitchen island with a granite top.
When we finally got home it was after four pm. Then we had a visit from had. Finally we had a tv dinner, Mexican style. I folded laundry and put it away. Then I worked on swaps that I am so late with! I will say that if February is as crazy as they are predicting...oh my! Today was crazy enough.

Birthdays always make a month fun! And yes, we have our own HenHouse birthdays coming up to celebrate!!

Marilyn, you have been busy, but it all sounds like fun. It is always a happy time when our younger generation is setting up their lives and finding their own stride!!

And yes it is fun to watch her being a mommy! Baby Jasper proved yesterday that she has been very successful at spoiling her firstborn! He nursed, fell asleep and she laid him in his crib, turned on the music box with the mobile and came back to the kitchen. He slept 15-20 minutes before he realized he was alone. Boy oh boy did he cry. But as soon as she picked him up, kissed him and cooed to him...he was fine.
I know she needs to love on him now...because the last week of February she begins orientation for her new job. She was asked to interview for a job as an operating room nurse in the hospital where she had her baby, she did and they hired her. Shorter drive.time, more money she is excited!
So are we!

Gosh, Denise, that floss holder is both beautiful and really nice! What a great purchase you found for keeping your floss well organized. Thanks for sharing the photo!!

Marilyn, I started my nursing career as an OR nurse too. I stayed there 10 years and it was quite interesting and quite an eye opener and front seat to what disease looks like on the inside.

Winnie, I hope Bay will enjoy working at the new to her hospital. She has been in the OR for six months of her first year at the other hospital. We are so glad she will have a shorter drive, and since we are only about 23 miles from her new hospital...she will not be out the expense of a motel room 6 or 7 or 8 nights a month...when it is her turn to take call!

I saw herrschnerrs still has floss holders like this only they are made of wood and galvanized tin. I have those loops that look like a key chain that i put the boobins on when i work a project so i dont lose them. They have lots of ways to make things handier when stitching and crafting.

I have been on a reading binge and finished a wonderful book on the presidency of Harry Truman. As you know Franklin Roosevelt suddenly died of a stroke in April 1945 before the war was over in both the European and Pacific theaters. Truman was so different from FDR but his dedication to the finish line of WWII and setting the stage for global peace with the Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, development of NATO and support of the fledgling United Nations earned him the place in history as Saving Freedom from all the turmoil following the big war that Russia threatened in smaller countries of Europe. It was such an interesting read and I really knew virtually nothing of this great and quiet man from Missouri. There are so many interesting pieces of American history woven into the years from 1900-1950s that set the stage for much of the American property that we all grew up with. If you love this era's history, I recommend Saving Freedom by Joe Scarborough. I am also about half way through a trilogy of books by Red Obermeir who has cleverly woven a story partially based on her own Grandmother and family. It is fun reading and a sweet journey of finding love, new adventures, homegrown goodness and love. Each book also shares some of Deb's Grandmother's recipes which are part of her stories. She has also included a separate book of all of her Grandmother's recipes along with tales and stories and photos. It has been a enjoyable and complete reality escape reading these books too. Lately, we had had many chilly grey or rainy days which have been perfect for reading with a cup of hot tea or coffee!!

My twin grandsons - 14 YO now - have been here since Saturday so have been busy with them.

I have misplaced - hopefully not lost - my checkbook. So far St. Anthony hasn't helped me find it. The last two checks I wrote the end of December are the last 2 that have been cashed, so I think it is lost here at the house or permanently lost. I am going to the bank a little later to see if I can close it temporarily for checks and open another. I have all our utilities automatically on my bank account or on credit cards that are paid from the account. GRRRR! Nothing is easy. LOL!

Denise, our son said we should watch the half time...that was a dud! Then my husband said he wanted to watch his program about fishing or ???
Our son called us about five to come up and eat some brisquite and ribs. It was very good. I asked if Julie had been cooking all day long...but no the guy who catered the wedding had cooked the meat.the ribs were to die for, and the brisquite was so tender. Yum.

As we were leaving their house, the tv just came on. My husband said, "look at the stands, there aren't any people, just cardboard in each seat."
