Connie, I think that learning to grow some of your food is on of the most valuable lessons our elders teach us. Denise, I believe some hens get depressed...perhaps because of abuse, snubbing etc from the other hens. Chickens can be mean!

Chickens defiantly have a pecking order so do small towns. Love them both but they fall short of being perfect.

I'm enjoying celebrating with tea on the front porch watching bees on my azealas. We discovered a small nest in a decorative birdhouse my father made for me. It sits on a stand on my porch. Theres an egg in the nest too!

Happy Jubilee weekend, everyone.
Today I worked the local election polls for 13 hours and we had a total of 24 voters. WOW! It was a very boring day. LOL!

Yes, I hope Mary Jane has had a great birthday!
Linda what kind of election did y'all have??
I used to work the election at Exray. Small very rural place. Very slow, and boring too. But I enjoyed getting to know the other two ladies.

Sara, how is your brother in law?
I have never understood why people think they are better than others.
When I was at the laundromat the other day, I noticed a woman about 55 watching me fill my second dryer. Into it went wash cloths, with frayed edges because I buy cheap bundles. But the more expensive ones fray too. Then I noticed her frown...my old, old gowns were being tossed in. I guess her gowns are city white, but mine are country water champagne color. And I wear them until they call apart. This summer I plan to buy some new ones, but sadly they won't stay new looking for long.

Thanks for asking Marilyn. It's a matter of days now and not weeks. Betty's youngest daughter flew in from Oregon yesterday. She has MS too so I know the trip was hard on her. Bobbie and I are going to Betty's today and Penny and her DH are coming up from Lucas.

Sara, I'm so sorry you and your family have this to go through. But on the bright side, I've always said the passing of a loved one brings about a family reunion.
You mentioned that your niece struggles with travel, so does Baylee. I did not know it until we rode to Granbury with Julie and Hadlee yesterday. I always wondered why Bay has to have directions, even to get to a destination...locally...It is because, in order to avoid the pain she immediately goes to sleep. Only when driving to school or the hospital or home, from those places is she awake and alert. This came out because little sister was complaining about her sleeping in the car. Breaks my heart.

Sara - Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Sara. It is so hard on the family when the time gets this close.

Marilyn - So sorry to hear that Baylee is in such pain. I hadn't heard that people fell asleep to avoid the pain.

Thank you all for your sweet words and prayers. It is hard to go through my day doing what has to be done and some of what I like to do all the time waiting for that phone call.

Winnie enjoy your trip and sample all the food.

Sara I am sending up prayers for your family, so sorry to hear this.
You take care too!

Marilyn it is so sad that people are so critical about things, people can’t always have perfect clothes but they are keeping them clean is what counts,
Praying. Baylee feels better.

Happy Monday!

That is true, Darlene. I just see no need to toss a soft gown into the trash or rag bag. I have never understood why well water discolors things. I don't enjoy the smell of bleach either..

Marilyn, just guessing don't you think it's the minerals in well water.

On the subject of being judged on your clothes I have a few thoughts.
When I was thirteen or fourteen we lived across the street from a little shack. The oldest daughter worked at Neiman Marcus downtown Dallas. Every morning she caught the bus before I went to school so I watched as she walked to the bus stop. She was tall, slim, and blond. Perfectly dressed and groomed. Her clothes were simple and dark colors that she changed up with accessories. Once she got on that bus and then walked into Neiman Marcus no one could tell she lived in a shack. To this day I make sure I have at least one outfit that will take me anywhere I want to go. I don't have to have the best but I want enough to fit into any social group.

I learned early on that when I look my best I don't think about how I look and can enjoy the people I am around. I remember the last time in Howe I stuck off to the post office - no makeup - sloppy clothes and I ran into most of the town. I was miserable because on that day it seemed liked everyone else was well dressed. Like it or not we are judged by the way we look and if I don't watch I'm guilty of doing the same thing.

Marilyn -

The bottoms of my shower curtains always gets a beige-y tinge after a month or so of showers. And that's not well water, it is city water. I don't know what it is, but almost looks like rust.
Since I am in an old house, may be the pipes. I use filtered water from my refrigerator for drinking and cookking.

I like the smell of clean - and bleach gets that for me sometimes.

Linda, My shower gets like that too. We have well water. We also have a water softener because we have high iron content in our water. When we had the copper pipes it turned everything blue/green. It was so hard to scrub off. JT replaced the pipes and we no longer have that problem.

Today we have sunshine. Not sure how many days it will last so we are soaking up all we can!
