Good Feb 1st morning to you all. It's 43 here with high or 59 - by Wed 74. Definitely not our usual Feb weather.

Betty wanted me to go to lunch with her today but after talking with her last night I had to say no. She lives in the next county over, Red River County - she's 30 min east of me. Her step DIL works at one of the schools in RRC and all the schools are closed because of the flu. I haven't heard if the flu is making it's rounds here in Paris. I don't take flu shots because of MS so I avoid all crowds during flu season. To be on safe side I am staying home. I pray for all of you and your families who have to be out in the public if your area is having an flu out brake.

Betty's DIL works in the school cafeteria and she gave Betty bags of baby carrots that are outdated but still good. The schools by law can't use or give out of date food away and have to trash it. Her DIL retrieved it from the trash. Betty said the carrots are good so she is bringing them to me to dry for muffins. We will share the dried carrots. I can see throwing away bad food but not just out of date if still good. It's a shame there's no place for common sense on what to use or not.

Since I am in for the day I here by declare it a 'Piddling Day'!

Good morning Sara,
I can understand having to throw it out as opposed to giving it away. If for some reason there should be something wrong then no blame can be laid at the school's feet.
I have been having cabin fever myself but I am not going out in this cold until it is necessary. I do need to get groceries soon but I am going to do baking with what I have and warm up the kitchen some. The wood stove is blazing this morning.
Will be doing some more hand quilting later or maybe a puzzle this afternoon.

We "had" to go to Wal-Mart last night to get dog food!!??!!
So we did, but since we always enter through the garden center, then the housewares area, Robert said he needed a kitchen scale. With that in the buggy he went to magazines, while I toured the fabric, once again. When I rounded the end of the isle he was looking at a magazine with a story: 100 ways not to get sick! I told him #1 was stay out of Walmart! We got some other things, including Tillie's favorite treat: HAM lunch meat! and drove home. Then when he went to feed his dogs, he could hardly believe he had plenty of food for them, which meant that we made an unnecessary trip to germville!

We are cool, no sunshine. Yesterday it was cloudy and cold until about four when the winds died down. We never saw old Mr sun or got to the promised 66°.
Today we should be at 74° with some nice sun shine, or at least that is what the weather guesses thought last Sunday. I must write a few checks, finish some Valentine's and clean up my mess!
Happy Valentine's Month ladies!
Yes January seems sooooo long. While teaching first grade, I loved that long stretch because that was when I tweaked my young readers skills. Back then we did not have the MLK holiday.
Now for the shortest month of the year!I
Ready, Set, Go!!!
May God continue to bless us each with good health, good warm homes, good friends, plenty to eat, Safe travels when we must go out, money for our needs as well as some wants, and loving, kind, giving hearts.
I love you all, my special Farm girl sisters.

Oh my Linda, I had no idea until I read your post. It's quite a honor for Kelly to have thought of me and chosen me. I read her post after reading yours. She had nice things to say about me and her sweet words lifted my spirit. I have been busy ordering food staples on Amazon Prime so just now got back to MJF.

Thanks Denise and Debbie. I'm still grinning ear to ear over being chosen. The thought stuck me to plant something special in my garden to remind me of this month. I want another yellow rose and been looking at them on The Antique Emporium site. This month all roses are 20% off so it's a good time to make a choice and get one.

Debbie I think you will like their site - https://antiqueroseemporium.com/

Some of their roses come from starts from rose rustling old roses in Texas and LA. Old roses found along fence lines, abandon homes and farms, in old gardens, and old cemeteries.

Happy February! "Rabbit, Rabbit" is what the folks in England say for good luck on the first of every month, for good fortune to contune all month. We are Blessed with a high of 50 today! It's rainy and cloudy but I dont mind! No wind chill!!

Congrats! Sara!! You were wise not to go! Since we cannot take the flu Shots because of our immune system affected by MS.

Marilyn, I saw the prettiest fat quarters at my Wal-mart yesterday. 97 cents for one and a bundle of 5 for 3.97, they also had Easter prints. I was in a hurry yesterday, so no time to linger in the Fabric dept. I wanted too!!

Denise is right, it's a libility issue with the food thrown out, because businesses get sued if they get sick. My hubby taught in the Memphis City schools 35 years and he felt like you do, such a shame to throw it out. One of the cafeteria ladies would put it beside the dumpster instead of inside and it would disappear, that way, no fault if someone took it from the dumpster. She made sure it wasn't any meat, just veggies and cookies and cakes. His school was in a very, very poor neighborhood.

I Pray God's Richest Blessings all this month for all of us!! Farmgirl art on my tree! This heart made by Teri- White Sheep Farm from her sheep wool about 4 years ago! I treasure all my farmgirl art!
HenHouse hugs!!
Connie

February is off to a splendid start with roses getting ordered, Sara is our FGOTM, a bit of thawing out is on the horizon for a few days , Valentine's Day makes all the stores full of pretty red hearts and decorations, and I can feel the spring plans pushing forward at MJF with many posts here and there!!

Yes, FLu season is pretty much in full tilt across the US and for sure crowded places are often a source of contamination. Caution is prudent if you are especially vulnerable .Here is Gainesville, Fl., we often see a big uptick in Flu after the Christmas break when all the students return to the University and children return to school. Often students bring it back to the community and then the kids all gather again in classes and the Flu spreads like wildfire. We also see it increase in March in Florida because College students from up north come down to our beaches for Spring break and spread it all around that way too. Always glad to see Flu gone for the season each year!!

Denise glad you checked out their site. I've been looking for just the right yellow rose. I really want a climber but the arbor in front of my Yellow Rose Cottage is now too shady for roses. I have two container yellow roses so I am looking at container roses. I do have a sunny space in front of the raised beds for an arbor but I don't know if I want to spend the money right now. So my choices are a container rose or build an arbor for a climber. I have time to mull it over and come up with what to do.

We had a wild rose growing beside the house and it was beautiful small flowers. JT used fertilizer on them and they died. I think it burnt them. It looked like it anyway.

February is foggy here today - I can't see the far end of my pasture.

I have a few old rose bushes here that were here when I bought my house and acreage. We transplanted them several years ago because they were in the wrong places and I'm not sure if they will come back this year. I hope so. If not, I will get some more. I like roses, and the older roses are special to have lasted through the years.
