Today my daughter, granddaughter and I attended a luncheon and the theme was bees. They had it all decorated so sweetly with bee things. Someone had blown up yellow balloons, added stripes and faces and hung them up. They gave those to the young ones at the end. Everything was done in black, yellow and white.
We had a game where we had multiple choice answers to bee questions. Unfortunately I answered I only answered 6 out of 10 correctly so I guess I had better brush up on my bee knowledge. The favors were little bags of honey candy and Burt's Bees lip balm.
The woman who had the discussion part did what she called the "Bee Attitudes". It was a lot of fun and I was glad my dd enjoyed it. She has had so much going on lately that it was good for her to have a few hours away.

Thanks Connie!! We don't get out often together so it was great for the three of us. I think they enjoyed it as much as I did.

The bee theme seems to be everywhere this year. Hopefully this will bring attention to the importance of bees.
I found this in my email yesterday. It is from Capper's Farmer magazine.

Denise, I get that newsletter from Capper's too. I love that magazine and all of the useful and historic information that they provide. Several times, I have looked into the whole bee set up and bee keeping. It is both expensive and not guaranteed to work. It seems like it can be very difficult to have success and bees have lots of stuff that kills them. If I lived on a farm, I might take the leap and invest. But in the city, I wonder if the bees would even be happy.

This most definitely is the month for bees. I received my new issue of Country Woman magazine and they have a wonderful article about 1 woman who is trying to help educate about bees and saving them.

Denise I got my Country Woman mag yesterday. Great story about the woman and bees. There's also an article about roses. The couple in the article are also in, The Rose Rustlers, the book about Texas rose rustlers.

I read that article too Sara. I told JT maybe he needs to hold off on planting anymore roses until he reads up on some of them. He spends a fortune, plants them and then leaves them. I think where he plants them is too shady.

I have the same problem here with too much shade. Have to hunt for a place to put roses. I have two yellow roses in containers and one in the ground. The one in the ground I planted year before last and it has yet to bloom. Another yellow rose I planted several years ago did not make it. The other roses were here when I bought my house and are deep rose red. They have adapted to partial shade and thrive.

My dd planted a pretty pink one the year before she married in 2008 and it is in full sun. It blooms from now through October and again in December. There is one dead stalk I need to trim but it is still going strong again this year. The smell is wonderful from it also. JT has one he planted along our fence, in 2000 and he also planted 4 others there but only the one has lived. It gets about 2 blooms a year. We had a wild one beside the house when we moved in and two years ago he tried to fertilize it but it burned it and it died. It was so pretty too and a climber.
