Though I hope we will all have sunshine, March is usually a rainy, windy month.

There are so many things to enjoy though. All the green shoots sprouting, etc.

If you will let me take a few minutes to reflect on what today means to me. I'm 76 today - closer to 80 than 70. There's a choice before me. Do I dread the thought of being 80 or do I embrace it. Bring it on. One thing I have learned this pass year is life is precious and whether you're 30 - 50 - 70 each day is a gift from the Lord. Tomorrow is an unknown and yesterday is gone forever but today is the day that the Lord has made and for me that's a blessing and I am blessed.

Beautiful words for today on your birthday!! You are right to remind us that even as we age and our lives are very different, each day is a blessing not to be wasted.

Denise, you wanted to see my old Easter basket so here it is.

The basket was much brighter colors in my younger days but I love that I still have it to enjoy!! It has held up pretty good for 66 years!! Guess that makes it an antique!! LOL!!

Great Basket, Winnie - I like baskets filled with goodies on the porch.

My sister, Betty treated me for lunch for my birthday and we went to the White House Antique Shop - I found two half aprons. One brown and white gingham and the other orange and white gingham. Both had cross stitching. I have enough aprons now I can move a couple of them to the cottage. There were several organdy fancy ones but I'm drawn to the everyday farmhouse aprons.

We ate at Heart & Soul - the name says it all. I had fried chicken livers, cream potatoes with gravy, fried okra, cheesy noodles, cornbread, and sweet tea. Busted my diet for a week but I enjoyed every bite.

A woman my age came in and sat by herself. I asked if she was alone and she said she wasn't sure. Her DB & SIL might show up. I invited her to join us and if they did come she would join them. They didn't show up until we were almost finished with our meal. She was a delight to talk with and she quilts and grows plants on her apartment patio.

That sounds like the perfect way to spend your birthday. You made a new friend and that is a gift in itself.

Yes, indeed, Sara, you had a splendid lunch with your sister and new friend! Oh how I love old gingham aprons with the cross stitching which I think i s called chicken scratch. Denise gave me a purple check one in a swap a few years ago and I love to hang that one as my house flag for our May weekend Farmgirl Jubilee! Your new aprons will be perfect for the cottage too! I am partial myself to simple and more primitive items. I'm just a prairie vintage kinda Farmgirl.11

Sara sounds like you had a wonderful time for your Birthday.

Speaking of gingham aprons,
In my 7th grade home economics class the very first sewing project we did was make an apron out of gingham. Mine was red and white. We had to cross stitch our name on our aprons. I did mine with black embroidery thread. My apron got an A. I put it in my locker to take home and someone managed to get in my locker and stole my apron. It was never found. It was very disappointing to not be able to show my parents. Especially, since money was tight in those days. I still wonder who took it and why.

I still remember how we made them without a pattern.

Denise love your basket. Found my Easter basket as a kid at my parents house when we cleaned out everything. The colors have faded some, but I love it.

Aw that was a shame Brenda.

I remember the first apron I made was a half apron. It was yellow with darker yellow roses on it. I don't know where I got the fabric. Probably my mom. I had it for many years but I don't know what ever happened to it. It just seemed to disappear sometime in the last 10 years.whether I passed it on or gave it away or maybe it is still hiding around here somewhere. But I haven't seen it in a very long time. I remember the tie was just a long piece a matching fabric that slide through a hem at the top and that made it gathered.

My backyard neighbor came over yesterday afternoon with plastic grocery bags full of fresh vegetables. She had been to the Food Pantry earlier in the day. When she told the woman giving out food she gave her too much and she would share with me. The woman than said they were there to share with everybody so Leslie got enough to give to her aunt and a young man who is on SS.

Tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, 3 stalks celery, 2 spaghetti squash, onions, potatoes, oranges, and mini sweet peppers. That was my share. I called Betty who was still in town and she came over and got what she wanted. After she had left me in the morning she grocery shopped and delivered eggs to family members. She has over 70 chickens and she loves sharing her eggs so she gave me a carton of the Easter color eggs to give Leslie.

My other sister Bobbie (Betty's twin) will see what she wants tomorrow. Whatever is left I will cook - dry - or can. So much food - my kitchen table is covered.

I heard the Food Pantry gets in truck loads of food each week and local businesses donate. It must be a government sponsored program. At Thanksgiving & Christmas Brookshires gets a list of can goods from the Pantry. They put the can goods in paper sacks with a list of what is inside on the front. The sacks are than staple shut and put on shelves - $5 a bag. It's handy to pick up a couple of bags and they put them in a bin at check out. That's all I have had to do with the Pantry until now. I didn't know about the fresh things.

Sara, your birth day sounds lovely! Indeed life is precious! Age is relative! It's all in the mind! I've always said, adulthood is way overrated! lol

Not much going on around here. I've been busy working on quilting UFOs and cooking every now and again. I've also been going to Montreal once a week to spend time with my mum. She's 83 years old and spunky as anything. Just like her mother, who at 89 could tire you out just by her joie de vivre! I miss my grandmother!

Cheers!

No robins, but loads of limbs, trees and wires down all around town. We are in for more again Wednesday. Hoping it's not as bad. It's definitely March blowing in.

Just got back from our 3-day motorhome trip to Oklahoma. We stayed at RV parks in Pawhuska and Oklahoma City. Pawhuska is the home of the first Boy Scout troop in America. You can google it and there are some interesting stories. In Oklahoma City, we went to the National Memorial Museum about the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. It is a very interesting memorial - very well done. Interviews of Survivors, family members, emergency personnel, and residents who all helped. It is so very sad about the 165 people who were killed in the explosion, including the 19 children. The memorial had been changed since my friend had been there many years ago; one exhibit of many many shoes that she had told us about and she said was very sad had been removed. All the videos, pictures, interviews were sad, and told a lot about that day. The outside exhibit, a chair for every person who had been killed, was interesting - the chairs are in rows, and each row had a chair for each person who worked or was visiting on that floor. Row 2 was were the smaller chairs for each of the children were, as the nursery was on the second floor. I am so glad we went to see that memorial.

Linda, your visit to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building must have been interesting but sad. OKC has all but been forgotten and I think that's a shame. It was the biggest home-grown terrorist bombing to date and I pray it never happens again.

On a happier note I had my first cup of morning tea out on the deck - 63 - and just a gentle breeze.

LInda, your trip and visit to the memorial sounds quite interesting. It is good to learn about important parts of our collective American history. Glad you had decent weather as well.

The cooler weather has returned to Florida most of this week. This morning it was 39 degrees out! Yikes!!

Sara, I missed your birthday. May I wish you a belated Happy Birthday!!!
(Waking early and working every day has been a big adjustment for me.
Most evenings I am asleep by 8:00, only three hours after I get home.
It is fun to be back in a classroom though!
