Good morning everyone,

Life has been somewhat quiet and I like it that way. It makes it easier to "hang on to my peace"

I've been keeping out of trouble working on quilting UFOs. Went into Montreal last night to enjoy a Cuban dinner with my family. My sister in law is such a great cook. She made a traditional Cuban stew/soup called Caldosa that was lovely. It had vegetables that I do not have a tendency to use such as plantain and yucca.

Aside from that not much is goin on.

Catch you all later

hi Carole, So with Yucca And Plantain in the soup, did that add a lot of fiber or a sweetness to the soup? I have never tried either one. Sounds good though

So today the Spring fever has hit me and I have started my spring cleaning. I am about tired of using the wood stove, though it is nice and cozy when we do and I know it won't warm up quick enough to stop using it yet, I don't like cleaning up all the mess. The guys clean up a bit but it was time to really give the area a good scrubbing. Hoping to keep it that way from now till we stop using it. Decided it is also time to wash curtains and quilts. So that is on my agenda. Putting something in the crockpot to make supper easier.
Have a great day everyone!

I have my small quilting group today. Just a few friends - talking about quilting and other fabric projects we are working on, going through quilting magazines and finding quilt patterns we like but definitely need no more of, and chatting. Nice and easy day. Also have started pulling together Income Tax info to go to CPA - UGH! I hate the expense, but have to do it.

Darlene, Starch and fiber for for sure ... the soup had so much going on. Plaintain in my opinion aren't really that sweet. The way my sister in-law prepares them is usually by frying. I have had yucca as a stand alone vegetable and I didn't find it sweet at all. She had steamed them. I prefer the yucca in the soup and not as a stand alone vegetable.

Cheers!

So I received a phone call and kind of shot my idea, though I did get some stuff done. Anyway, I am meeting my cousin for lunch. He drives truck and was so close by we thought a shame not to meet up. Haven't seen him in 40 years.

Carole, it certainly sounds like an interesting meal, not something I will probably make.

Denise, it sure is nice to get to see your cousin, I hope you have a good lunch!

Have a wonderful day everyone

Love you all.

According to Rick Bayless and his show Mexico One Plate at a Time, plantains are best if you let them ripen until the skin is almost black. I've tried it and they are much better. He peeled them, split them in half lengthwise, put brown sugar, butter and cinnamon in them. Then wrapped eac one in foil and put them on the grill. He served them with ice cream.

I did them in a similar way and they were good.

Happy quilting Linda.

Denise how nice to be able to visit with your cousin. Sprin cleaning ugh! Not ready for that yet...lol

We had a good visit. Was too short but maybe we will be able to get together again sometime.

With that last two days not working out as I planned, I threw open the windows and am getting it done today.

Pulled out my Easter decor and giving this place a lift!

Going to finish a quilt block for guild tonight and make another guild item and then sit back a rest a while before leaving for the meeting tonight. Pouring down rain here, had some tiny hail, and looking out at my pasture I see more water than ground in some spots. Three of the four horses are in the barn - not sure where the other is right now unless at this angle I just can't see her.

Linda I hope this morning finds the mare with the others.

Got to brag on my Annie. Had to put out trash this morning in the rain so I figured no person or animal would be out so I let Annie go with me without her leash. She did so good and heeded my voice commands. In fact she beat me back to the door. My little girl is growing up - she's much more quieter than she was six months ago. She turned two sometime in Jan and I will have had her two years in March - time sure does fly by these days.

Aw, that's great Sara. We used to have a Boston(terror) lol, and I trained her to go with out a leash. . Sometimes she got distracted by things and wouldn't listen but she always came back home. She would just bark to come in or sit on the mat by the back door til we let her in. Animals are such great companions.

Hi ladies :) Life has been its normal hectic self, with ups and downs, but I will spare you all the details :) We are about to come out of the Arctic freeze we have been experiencing and be above zero and actually feel like it too! Once we hit that point, I'll let the kids play n the snow... We have drifts that are three to four feet high! School has been more laid back than normal... we've been focusing more on behavior and heart attitudes rather than academics right now.

This weekend will be one of preparation. I will be starting some seeds (celery and onions) in our indoor greenhouse. Next week we should be getting our two feeder pigs... Red Wattles. Then the first week of March we will be getting chicks... 50 Amaericanas, 5 Polish (one each of five different types), 1 rare breed of their choice, and ten Plymouth Barred Rocks. My parents will be taking six of the latter in May. One of our goats is also due to freshen the end of March, though they say they can go up to two weeks early, so I need to be prepared for that as well.

Good to hear from you Shannon. Glad to hear you are busy with sowing seeds and preparing for the arrival of pigs and chickens; and your little goat herd is thriving. Your homestead is a happy & busy place.

Seems there has been a lot of sickness this winter. Hope everyone is doing better. Glad to have you back Marlee.

I've been busy with company lately. Also, got a new sewing machine and it's going to take me a while to learn all it will do. Taking classes, but they aren't scheduled until the middle of April. At least I'm good with instruction books.

You can do it, Brenda. I have learned new sewing machines, old sewing machines, and new and old computers -- just look at the book if something comes up you don't know how to do.

Well, our daffodils are sprouting up and today I spotted the tulips greens coming out. I sure hope it doesn't snow after they bloom because then we will end up with brown blooms.
