Glad to see you up and around Denise.

Staying cozy - I like that title. I think that's why I like winter so much - not saying I like ice - but I do like being warm and cozy. Outside work is over until spring so that leaves time for lots of piddling. I feel better in the cooler months - less MS fatigue but it does drop on me from time to time.

I also dearly love winter clothes - the look of them - the feel of them. 90% of clothing budget is spent for coo/cold months clothes. Doesn't leave much for hot weather clothes and that's fine with me since I survive our summers, don't like being outside in the heat, and start thinking of fall by late June. Sometimes just writing about the summer makes me wish for fall.

Glad you are feeling better, Denise. Have Bunko this afternoon and then a birthday dinner for my DIL tonight. Hope to get more sewing done this weekend; I got 14 gift bags made and in the shop for Valentines and birthdays. Picked up a BOM from a swap we are doing for my Quilt Guild. 14 of us brought blocks and everyone will make a block(s) for everyone else. Should be fun. For mine I am doing a 2-color quilt - red and white. The pattern is Broken Sugar Bowl. LOL!

Worked on the cast iron toy soldier cookie today with salt & lemon juice mix scrubbed with potato. It works but will take more to get into all the nooks and crannies of the 5 toy soldiers. It's clean enough to hang on the wall until I get around to working on it again. It's drying in a 170 oven - don't want it to rust again.

When I started canning at 5 a.m. it was rainy but a mild 50 - now at 10:45 a.m. it's 36 raw & cold - gotta love our Texas weather.

Working off & on on chapter 5. Good day to be in and write.

Still battling the tail end of this cold stuff. Seems to just keep hanging on. I slept in the recliner last night which seemed to help.

Woke up in my own bed this morning. After being gone for over a month, a very long 2 day drive home and arriving home to the pump having gone out in the well that supplies water to the house and the temp at -2.5 it is still good to be home. I see I have lots of farm girl mail and look forward to opening it after I get everything put away. I didn't get Valentine cards sent out this year but I sure appreciate every one sent to me. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids sure did a wonderful job keeping everything running, fed and alive while we were gone. Oliver declared on Thursday it was time we came home, he missed us so bad. It sure helps break up the winter when we can enjoy some beautiful Texas weather for awhile. I hope everyone has a good day. Denise I hope you get better soon, the flu and influenza are really bad here so I will not be leaving the farm if I don't have to.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Julie,
It's always nice to go away but then it's always nice to get back home again. So nice to know you were missed isn't it?

I was not able to get cards out this year but have enjoyed those I've received.
Hope to get back in the swings of things soon.

There is a nagging cough that won't go away. I don't want to go out. It's been raining since yesterday and will until tomorrow sometime. I need to get groceries as I haven't been since I returned.

Hope everyone is staying well. Enjoy your Sunday.

Glad you had a wonderful vacation down in Texas, Julie!

Denise, take care as you continue to recover from the Flu. It sure takes a lot out of people when it hits!

Sara, I am like you in that I truly enjoy Winter. This past week and weekend had temps in the mid to upper 70s and low 80s with more coming this week. We have so many months of hot and humid weather down here that Winter is refreshing and a welcome change for me.

Good the hear you are feeling better Denise.

Thank you for all the Valentine Cards that were sent to me. I planned on sending cards, but didn't get them done.

Glad to see you are back Julie. Too bad about the pump, but you're right it is always good to be home.

I like fall and winter clothes too. I really do need clothes for summer though. Summers here can be hot and humid. You wouldn't think Michigan would be so humid. We have lots of trees.

The snow is so pretty. Starting to melt a little. More snow coming in a couple of days. Hoping the cold we had earlier in the season went deep and will kill off some of the insects. The snow insulates the ground and keeps the frost from going deep.

Linda your quilt sounds interesting. I have an antique red and white quilt, well only half of it. Never did have the whole quilt. It was in some things given to me. It's quite worn, but works great for my little hearts.

Glad you are still writing Sara. It keeps us entertained during this cold weather.

It seems that winter does not want to let go here. They are saying up to 4" of snow in our forecast for Saturday.

I have been trying to get some things organized as always. Paperwork seems to get ahead of me always.

Planning a lunch with a couple of girlfriends tomorrow. Will feel good to get out for something other than groceries and errands.

A little nonsense thought on how I spend money at the grocery store. Today in the produce department at Brookshires they had the most beautiful red Swiss Chard - it's a green they normally don't carry and it wasn't priced. I asked the assistant manager to scan it for me and it was $3.49 a bunch - mustard greens were ~$1.29 - quite a difference but like I said the chard was beautiful.

I told Eric that was more than I usually paid for greens but on the other hand I don't bat an eye at paying $3.50 for a bag of Lay's potato chips. The chard went home with me and the chips stayed on the shelve. I'll have the chard for supper with a small baked potato and glass of Merlot. At $3.49 a bunch I'll be eating high on the hog.

Well lunch got postponed to another day. I didn't really mind as I had some things I needed to get done.
I am not looking forward to snow tomorrow. We are celebrating my grandsons birthday tomorrow afternoon. It is actually today but his dad had to work so we will have it after lunch tomorrow. This makes February birthday number 4 for us so far.

Anyone else ready for some Spring weather?

Sara, I agree with you that the Swiss Chard is unusually gorgeous these days in the store!! I made some for dinner tonight with a few mushrooms sautéed with it and served it with mac n' cheese and cooked apples.

Winnie I never thought about adding mushrooms to the chard - wished I had know I have portabellas in the fridge.

Ladies, before life gets totally overwhelming for me...I need to ask you to forgive me for not posting of participating a lot in recent weeks. I began my sub work again in January and worked six days, because so many folks were out sick. After two days off I was back in different classrooms and in horrible pain (back and Ribs). So I went to town and bought SamE. I have taken it before for much less pain, so I was not sure if would work this time...BUT IT DID!!!I love the kids and it is just natural. But last Monday morning the principal called me...She usually texts. She offered me a long term sub situation, teaching the fifth and sixth graders Science, Social Studies and Reading until the end of the school year. I accepted! Because the $ will almost clear my debt. Then each month will be a lot easier. I had prayed for a solution and God always has a way...surprising for sure! I thought the other sub would just continue on, but she wanted to go back to regular subbing. Now I need to ask if I can do what Julie did, take three and a half months off from the hen house! I may pop in to visit now and then, but writing lesson plans, grading papers and gathering supplies will be time consuming. I love my hen house sisters and I do already miss clucking with you.
