I sent Shannon a short note and heard back from her. She's still fighting uterine infection from having Jenni and is barely surviving at the moment. She's on two antibiotics now in hopes that this round will finally take care of it! Jenni is losing weight instead of gaining it… probably due to her infection, as well as the fact that she was lip tied (had a procedure this past week to fix that), plus six of the other kids had the chicken pox. She asked to be remembered in prayers.

Our Border Collie began her guard dog routine at 11:45pm. It has now been over an hour. A good portion of that time she was under the bedroom window, safely behind the chain link fence. She barked and growled so long i thought her throat must be sore. Usually the yelping coyotes come through, maybe two or three groups, On their way to ???But tonight they were so close and stayed. I hope our outside kitties are safe. I never heard the war cries of the coyote until I was 32 years old. They scared me then and still do. They sound like an Indian war party, about to attack, like in the movies that were popular when I was a kid. It is going to be a long night.1:02am.

Marilyn I have never heard the war cries of coyotes but I have seen them up close. When I lived in Howe I was in town but there was 18 acres on three sides of me. One winter coyotes denned up in an abandon barn next to me. After a season they moved on and never came back.

My sister, Betty, and I went to the White House Antique Shop this morning and I came away with a prize. A cast iron toy soldier cookie pan from 1985 - Classic Gourmet. Six toy soldiers. Had the recipe and care pamphlet. Not vintage cast iron but a prize anyway for $15. Will clean it and hang below two iron skillets in my kitchen.

The owner of the shop told me his recipe for cleaning cast iron. Mix lemon juice and salt together and scrub with a raw potato. I'm going to give it a try it.

I have some cast iron to clean, Sara. I will try your recipe, too. I got a cast iron man with 5 Christmas trees in my favorite thrift store. I think it was only $5.00 and is in very good clean shape. I want a cast iron dutch oven and a small skillet.

Here my neighbor, who walks with her dog every afternoon, has seen a large coyote in the pasture several times - during the DAYtime. It is not good when they are out even in the daytime when kids out outside.

Linda $5 is a great buy.

One morning in Howe a woman was on her front porch watching her small dog do it's business when a coyote came around the corner and ran off with the dog. Coyotes have lived around people for so long they are no longer afraid of us.

I haven't heard or seen coyotes here in Paris but several blocks behind me is a deep creek in a wooded area and no telling what travels along it. Wild animals seem to follow creeks and dried creek beds.

That sounds neat Linda for the cast iron man. I have a cast iron dutch oven I use it alot.
That sounds dangerous for anyone or animal if the Coyote is out in the day time. Has any one called about it.

Keep safe out there.

Great buys Sara and Linda for the cast iron items.

We have coyote around here. They stay in the woods though. There is a lot of woods here for them to live in. We have a neighbor that doesn't like them so he hunts them. I kind of miss hearing them howl at night. They do keep the wildlife under control, but dangerous for pets. We keep our dog close to the house when we hear coyotes out in the woods in back of our property.

Still have Shannon in my prayers. Hope everyone is getting better.

I would like to find a cast iron dutch oven. I think it would be very useful.
I don't know if she called anyone. Since we are outside the city limits, there is no animal control out here. There is a Hunt County trapper, though, and he could come out if it could be found .

Linda I do hope you find a Dutch oven. I love mine and its perfect for our glass top stoves. Speaking of glass top stoves my kitchen isn't "dressed" after the dishes are done until my stove top cover is back on. Linda thanks for the barter and must say I got the better of the deal this time.

LOL! Thanks, Sara. The fabric you traded for it makes me feel like I got the better deal. LOL! And I agree - my stove top cover dresses up my kitchen, too.

http://www.lodgemfg.com/

Linda, this is the website for the Lodge cast iron company. You can order any piece that you wish and in whatever size you need. I love my cast iron Dutch oven and it is versatile . The best part about Lodge is that they are quality and come pre-seasoned and ready to use. Enjoy!!

Thank you, Winnie, for the link. I remembered that I DO have a Martha Stewart dutch oven that has the white coating on it. It is in the back of the cabinet, because it is so heavy I can barely lift it. LOL! That might work until I get another one.

Happy Valentines Day, farm girl sisters. Today Ed made breakfast and brought it to me in bed. He also gave me a bouquet of flowers, candy, and the best card ever! He is definitely a keeper. I guess that's good, since I married him. LOL!

What a wonderful Valentine's Day for you Linda. It's nice to be spoiled once in a awhile.

I got the best Valentine's ever this year. My son in Washington state called a little while ago and he's moving home this coming weekend. Yay! It will be good to have him home for good. Said he just wanted to be home. Since he got out of the army and divorced, he's by himself out there and is terribly homesick. His boss understands and asked him to finish the week and then he's free to go. His boss understands completely and encouraged my son come home. Said family comes first. Please pray for his safety as he travels through the Rockies and the upper US states back to Michigan. He will be driving by himself and pulling a trailer.
