Just a reminder everyone, if you wish to participate in our Annual Apple Pie Sunday here at MJF, it is this coming weekend, September 24. I also posted a reminder on the main forum that you might have already seen. Any Apple recipe works and we would love it if you wished to share with all of us what you like to eat and what might be your plan this Sunday if you plan to participate.

Me, I love a traditional two crust apple pie with lots of sliced apples in the filling!! Yum!! Plus, I prefer a slice of sharpe cheddar cheese on top instead of ice cream or whipped cream.
Hehehe, with cheese on top, you can easily consider it the perfect breakfast too! Protein with your fruit. What could be better to start the day.

Whatever you love, I would love to hear about it here so we can all share and enjoy the myriad ways this fruit has pleased generations!

I think I mentioned on the main site that I will be making apple pandowdy. Found it in my grandmother's recipes. Bought all the ingredients I will need while I was out today.

I just looked up the Apple Pandowdy recipe. Looks good. I may have to try it - someday - maybe not on this Sunday. LOL! Martha Stewart has a recipe.

On one of the food shows I watched last week they made a applesauce caramel tart. I may do that for Apple Pie Sunday. Add apple spice to applesauce and put on top of store bought caramel with apple brandy. I will use ready made mini pie shells. Bake 350 for 30min. My kind of baking. I may even make my own applesauce.

Linda, I'll have to look up Martha's recipe to see if it is any different from gram's.

My son puts together a rodeo fun day for kids each year and that just happens to be Sunday. I will be taking apple pie bars for the pot luck dinner we always have. They go really fast so I always take a separate pan for my son, they have always been his favorite, Keith's too so a pan will have to be made for home as well. Looks like Saturday is all about baking.

I'm thinking of fried apple pies for Sunday. My family loves fried pies but they are a rare treat. So I have diced freeze dried apples, why not.

Wowza, all these apple ideas sound so good! I do believe many of us will be baking on Saturday. But, what could be more delicious at the end of your effort? I just love hearing about everyone's ideas and recipes too!

This has been such a fun Apple Festival year here at MJF!

Our apple season here doesn't really get going until almost October. But they last until December!

I made my apple pie today because I will be cooking sauerbraten in the morning. The roast has been marinating in red wine since Thurs.

I put a couple of recipes together and came up with a caramel, apple brandy, vanilla pudding apple pie in store bought pie shell. Had a slice and it was pretty tasty. A little too sweet but I find most desserts too sweet for me these days.

Yum, Sara! I would love to be able to taste your apple pie creation. The fun thing about apples is that they are flexible in how they are paired with other ingredients. Now if I was at the Yellow Rose Corace this morning....I am pretty sure I would be having a slice of that pie with my coffee! Lol!!

Apple Pandowdy came out well. Added a scoop of vanilla to it. Some, added a bit more than a scoop to their's. Very tasty warm. I just popped it in after the oven was turned off from dinner and it was perfect by the time we had dessert.

Here is my apple pie fresh from the oven and it smells soooooo good! I used the Apple pie filling recipe from MaryJane's new Cast Iron Cookbook for mini apple pies. Instead of her cookie crust, I just used a traditional pie crust recipe. For apples, I used some new crop Honey Crisp that were in the local grocery store this weekend. Their natural tartness and juiciness seemed like a good choice. I tasted them before I put them in the crust and they tasted really good with a little sugar and the spices. We will be enjoying it later for dessert with my extra sharp Vermont Cheddar Cheese.

Lots of apple goodness going to be enjoyed today!

I found this cute saying last week on a Maine New England blog that I follow that seems fitting for Apple Pie Sunday. The blog post was about an apple pie recipe and who still eats apple pie for breakfast. The comments were hilarious as followers replied with resounding YES! and with Cheddar Cheese!

Works for me way down here in the deep South!! LOL!!!

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Doesn't Denise's Apple Pandowdy look delicious??!!

Ok ladies, here is my apple pie day offering.
One plate for us and one for my son's family.
They are not as pretty as your pies but the crust is so tender.

All your apple pies look delicious.

My sister came over for lunch and apple pie. We wore apple aprons at the table. I wore the one I made for our first APS and Bobbie wore the apple apron Linda gifted me last year. I made sure she didn't wear it home because she really like it. lol She took the leftover pie home for the boys who live behind her.

Denise I had to bring the apron I wore in from the front porch. I had it hanging by the front door since the first of the month.
