Hi girls,

I'm really getting in the fall mood lately. I think it's the cool weather we've been having. Anyway I thought I would try something new and share some things that might be fun to do this month. This is only for FUN! It's not a challenge. Don't feel like you have to do it. If anything interests you and you do try a recipe or a project post pictures! If not, no big deal. Sometimes it's also fun just to look!

This is from missjaneblog.blogspot.com

Translated:
While ripening corn grew thick and deep,
And here and there men stood to reap,
One morn I put my heart to sleep,
And to the lanes I took my way.
The goldfinch on a thistle-head
Stood scattering seedlets while she fed;
The wrens their pretty gossip spread,
  Or joined a random roundelay.

That is lovely!!! I am SO excited for September to be here! The mornings have been cooler when I take off for my walk...I've had to take a jacket with me when I start out but it's warm by the time I'm halfway through. It's supposed to be 100 degrees still this weekend and 90s next week but finally the cooler weather is coming! I thought about putting out my fall decorations this weekend...I'll try and take some pictures.

I love pumpkin pancakes! This recipe looked really good. I haven't tried it yet. I have another pumpkin pancake recipe that I have used a couple years now, but I'm always on the lookout for the perfect pumpkin pancake recipe!

I thought about getting mine out too Debbie! I don't think it's going to happen until mid September though, unfortunately!

Also anyone can feel free to share some fun seasonal projects or recipes for the month!

Love that poem! Thanks for sharing it Erin. Have never heard it before. I just love fall. I haven't put out my fall yet. I'm trying to get things sorted and cleaned out from my dad's things. We are going to do some painting and rearranging and hopefully be done in time for me to get things out by the end of September.

Denise, I hope everything is going as well as can be.

Joyce, you put yours out already? I must have missed your comment earlier! I wish mine were out. I'm a little scared to go in my attic to get anything so I make Jason do it. I know that's so silly, but I think there are bats up there, and I'm a big fraidy cat. Anyway, he is preoccupied this week editing a video he's putting together of area pastors and congregation members for the 500th Reformation Anniversary celebration for our circuit. Wow, that was a mouthful. We're having an Oktoberfest on Saturday in a the little town right next to mine for our circuit, and the synod president is giving the divine service. Jason is on the steering committee for that, and it's taken up so much time. It's almost over, but I told him the next time someone asks him to be on a committee or join a group or a club he has to say no. I mean, the 500th anniversary is a big deal, so I understand wanting to participate in this event, but it's been stressful and too many nights of meetings. Also, he's co-opted my computer to use for editing his film. I just snuck up to the study to check in with you guys! :)

Erin, I'm with you on the bats. I don't like to go in the basement either because we've had snakes down there before. Not for a very long time but still....
Sounds like you are busy these days too.

500th Oktoberfest is over! It was a lot of fun. Huge tents and 9 churches gathered together for service and communion yesterday afternoon. The music was really great, however Rory was being such a handful I had to get communion and get out of there so he would stop being so disruptive. Everyone had dinner afterward with tenderloin, brat or hot dogs, sauerkraut, baked beans, German potato salad, and strudel. There was a Lions Club truck selling ice cream and an Auntie Anne's truck selling pretzels. Of course being an Oktoberfest, there was beer too. They had a polka band so there was square dancing and polka dancing. I'm not one for dancing (no doubt the influence of my Baptist upbringing, I think that's why I don't like card games too!) but my husband loves dancing and Jason and the kids were dancing up a storm while Rory was sleeping on me. Everyone had a lot of fun and the weather was perfect!

Wow Erin!! Sounds busy...and yummy! We start school tomorrow - and I start teaching music too, again. I have plans to use tomorrow as an "introduction" day where I make a special breakfast, and meet with each child for about an hour, showing them their books and laying out my expectations for them for the year.

Fall is definitely in the air here in the mountains of Colorado, time to get the old wood stove ready for our first fire of the season soon!

Well, I got a few pumpkins put out last week. My husband said it's still too early but I am so ready for fall! I guess it's officially less than a week away so it's ok!

Thank you Debbie. I too am all decorated for fall, patiently waiting to put my Halloween out. I love Halloween as much as fall!
This picture was taken yesterday from the back of our property. That is Pikes Peak Mountain between the trees.

Hi Deb, Good to see you here and have you join us. It's been awhile.

I am really being ruthless just now and downsizing.Having had to go through dad's things I am seeing where I really need to declutter and make home more manageable for me to take care of. Dad and mom were both leaning towards the pack rat stage. Growing up during depression era did it to them I'm sure but I am ready to be done with that and only keep what I love and use.

So...since I love fall I am hoping to get some things put out after my errand running today. Yay Fall!! And the mornings are much cooler now. Loving it!

Hello Everyone!
I have so missed being on here this summer! I don't really know where my summer went. It was just a really long, hot, SMOKEY summer and I'm so excited that the weather has cooled and we're having some rain! It's helped so much to clean the air and put out the fires that have been all over Oregon and Montana.
It's been good to get caught up on all of your goings-on!
Debbie...your backyard is absolutely beautiful! How lucky to live in Colorado! I'm thinking your mountains have already had a bit of snow dusting them by now?
Erin...you have been busy! Your Oktoberfest sounds like a great time! The food had to be fantastic! Have you tried those pumpkin pancakes yet?
Joyce...I'll bet your students are so excited to be back! How did your breakfast go with them?
Denise....I feel your pain!!! haha My father in law passed away a year and a half ago. He and my mother in law were of that era...don't throw ANYTHING away! She passed away 20 years ago but he still had more stuff than you can imagine! Sometimes I just shook my head....but there were some funny moments when you would find something and all you could do was laugh! It really does make you want to become more of a minimalist with your own things. A friend of mine who also quilts and I were talking not too long ago. We were joking about what our daughters would say when they had to go through our quilting stash one of these days. She said she's just going to put sticky notes on projects saying, "I'm Sorry!" or "I'm SO sorry!" hahaha!

We are expecting grandbaby #4 right before Christmas! My daughter and husband are having their first and it's our first GIRL! I decided to wait until they knew what they were having to start making things. I have a couple of knitting projects finished and a couple more to go...plus making her bedding. She will be here before we know it!
I'm hoping that things are slowing down a bit for everyone and we can get back on here to chat! I've missed talking to everyone. Hope everyone has a happy and blessed week!

It was good to hear from you Debbie! My teaching is going well - a bit overwhelming!! But, hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. My jersey (Daisy) had her baby on Monday at 4:30p. We named her Buttercup :)
