Happy first day of February everyone. It is a fun, busy month...filled with hearts and love, ground hogs predicting our crazy weather, celebrating birthdays of Presidents Lincoln and Washington as well as friends and family.
The almanac says we should bake some goodies and cut some wood today.
We shall see...HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Marilyn, I think I'll skip cutting wood today. Feb got here really quick this year. Seems like months and years are just rolling past me these days.

I know...TIME FLIES.
Reading about Conversation Hearts yesterday (doing my homework for school),
I was surprised to learn they have been made since the 1860s, in different shapes. Since 1902 as hearts. The astounding thing is they work, making hearts year round to get enough made...over 8 Billion each year...and they sell out in 6 weeks.

I've always been fascinated with the Almanac. I know that Benjamin Franklin published the "Poor Richard's Almanac" under the name of Richard Saunders. First published in 1732. Anyway here is a link with interesting information:

I have always been fascinated with Benjamin Franklin, he accomplished so much in his life. A good role model!

Since I'm out of town, no wood cutting today. And is it okay if I just eat some goodies, since I'm on the road? LOL!

February has lots of presidents's birthdays. Small month, but large on holidays and special dates.

Carole,
The Almanac has lost a bit over the years but we learned a lot about it. Mostly when we were studying Benjamin Franklin in homeschooling our children. Very interesting man and he certainly did accomplish much. Great role model!

I still buy The farmer's Almanac every year! My Granny loved it!
No wood cutting! I'm thinking an Iron Skillet Cobbler! but first I'm off to the Eye Dr. Marilyn, I saw a segment on the Conversation Hearts on CBS this morning one year! I was surprised too! Sara, Time does fly, except when your a kid waiting for Christmas!
Linda, you can have all the treats you want!

Today is also the old Christian celebration of Candlemas. It was the time that people took candles to the church to be blessed. I cut and pasted the information below for you to enjoy.

Many Christians consider Jesus as the “light of the world” so it is fitting that candles are blessed on this day and that a candle-lit procession precedes the mass. It is traditional to eat crepes on Candlemas in some parts of Europe, such as France. Each family member prepares and cooks a crepe while holding a coin in hand. This is believed to assure wealth and happiness until the next Candlemas celebration.
Candlemas is also known as Candelaria in Spanish speaking countries. Whoever finds baby figures hidden inside the Rosca de Reyes (Kings Cake) on Epiphany on January 6 is obliged to bring food to a gathering held on February 2. Many Orthodox Christians celebrate this event by bringing beeswax candles to their local church and requesting for these candles to be blessed to be used in the church or at home. Some Christians observe the practice of leaving Christmas decorations up until Candlemas.
