Perhaps there is something sweet in the bird seed. Bees always gather around places where kids discard soda and juice containers. Try a lid of sugar water nearby. They may think spring is here but there are no flowers. I am guessing. But I have read that bee keepers sometimes provide a sugar water solution for their bees. I am not sure of the sugar to water ratio. |

We always have bees around the hummingbird feeder but never saw them in the bird feeders with seed. |

Gosh, Linda this is a curious observation. I have no idea unless your birdseed has some sort of see additive that is sweet and attracts the bees? I hope someone else has this same occurrence so we can all find out.

Sherry, so happy that you will be my swappy :) Linda, My hubby is a bee keeper, he said some of his bee keeper friends are talking about seeing Honey Bees in Bird Feeders. The weather is so crazy, I think they think it is Spring and are looking for pollen! We do feed our bees sugar water, different ratios different times of the year. We use special jar lids and they access from inside the hive. We do have things blooming here (that should not be, it's February!!) We had a 509 pollen count today, and it's Feb!!!! Should not be happening! Our bees are flying, saw several on flowers that are blooming and should not be! If you do put out sugar water for them, please make sure it is shallow, maybe with pebbles so they don't drown :(! Ours are looking for plain water as well. |

Thanks, Ruth. Several people here are seeing the bees in the bird feeders. Seemed strange since we hadn't seen them do that before. I guess the spring-like weather here has awakened the bees, but not the flowers to get their pollen from. I might try putting out some sugar water. What would the ration of sugar to water be? |

Linda, mix two parts sugar to one part water in a saucepan. Cook and stir until the sugar dissolves. Set the pan off the heat and allow it to cool. You can pour some in a shallow lid (lid of a popcorn tin or ???) You may want to add some sticks so they have a place to land. You will need to put more in it each day. Or you could use chicken waterers or something that would hold the sugar water and let more out for the bees as needed. They are hungry because the seasons are crazy they woke up and could not find flowers. The sugar water will provide energy until spring flowers appear. Vetch comes up in April. They love it, but that is two months from now. |

Don't worry Carole, I had mine ready to go, even got in the car to take it and when I reached the end of the drive turned around and came back because I realized it was Presidents Day and they were closed. So, I had one of the guys drop it off yesterday. The date isn't until the 29th anyway.
Hope everyone is enjoying this swap. I know I had a good time finding bee items! |

Winnie - I received your delightful bee package today. Wow! You were super sweet and spoiled me rotten!!! I absolutely adore the mug rug!!! I am working on finishing one more item for your package and then will get it in the mail - I'm guessing Saturday morning, depending on if we get hammered with this storm like they are saying we might. |
