Look how I dressed up my fireplace with a $19.97 mirror from Wal-mart! Really makes my decorations look brighter!

I wanted to share with you some vintage Christmas. The first photo is three postcards that were gifted to me. The top left is postmarked 1910 from Mansfield S. Dakota, the top right is from Chicago, Ill in 1911, and the bottom one is1908 but I cannot make out where it was sent from. Farmgirl CeeJay gave me the top left one in a recent swap.
The next photo contains two candy holder ornaments. The old one on the left belonged to my Mother. She was born in 1914 so I am guessing it was given to her at some time before she grew up. The second one is a Santa designed on the same idea. This one was made by my mother who made the Santa face, arms and legs. Both ornaments have an opening in the back and the netting had a pouch that you could fill with candy. I just love these vintage ornaments!

I love your vintage ornaments Winnie, and the beautiful cards as well. It is always fun to see things from those early years of my own parents lives. 1910 @ 1916. Thanks for sharing. |

I finished the tree! Old fashioned collection of 43 years. Lily June loves those old snowball lights. I found some on ebay, they fit the C-7 light strings that you can get at Lowes or Wal-Mart or any hardware store. Connie Imagine....#3392 |

Yes I do too! And I seem to remember that they became a bit difficult as they got older. I am sure our mom's and grandma's did not mind...It sure beat a block of ice and an ice pick. |

Oh, yes. Those metal ice trays sometimes had minds of their own. I remember my grandmother also using them to make ice cream - it was a very ice-crystally ice cream. LOL! |

Connie, your decorations are so much fun and they look beautiful in your home!! We used to have those same aluminum ice trays growing up too. And, when it was hot, we were so grateful to make ice for tea since we didn't have AC!!! LOL!! |

Winnie we did not have AC either! I would open the freezer just to cool off. We got window unit ac in 1971. We poured Kool-Aid in the ice trays and froze them! Just pop them out and in the mouth they went, outside of course!

We also never had AC. We had a couple window fans, but not even window AC units. My parents finally got a window AC unit when they were in their late 70s and all four of us kids were long out of the house. |

In west Texas we had swamp boxes. Big Air conditioners that made things damp feeling. They had straw mats in the sides and water ran down through the straw, and a fan pushed the air inside. In west Texas it is a dry heat and at night you often need a jacket. Here in central Texas it is humid. Swamp boxes do not work here. |

Denise, My Aunts and Uncle were mad that my Grandparents got AC after they all married! Marilyn, that swamp box is very interesting! It's so humid here from May to October! We get a few days here and there with low Humidity and we all live outside!! LOL!! Connie Imagine....#3392 |
