Time seemed to get away from me and I didn't get a chance to send out my cards. I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter celebrating with your family or friends.

Winnie, what a lovely picture. Easter egg hunts were not part of my tradition, but a new dress was! Your photo brings back lots of memories of my mum making our clothing. Of course, back then making clothes was economical, sadly not now!

Sherry, thank you for the lovely card. Goodness, we have such talented and creative ladies in this henhouse.

What beautiful cards.
We had new Easter dresses and hats when I was little. Sunday at Church there is one lady who is going to bring extra hats for others to wear. I am going to wear one. It has been years. But they are pretty.
We shall see. :D

We always got new spring/summer Sunday shoes for Easter. Then we were allowed to wear our winter Sunday shoes for school, because our school shoes were beginning to show quite a bit of wear. Do you remember polishing and shining the family shoes? That was my job.Mother made our new Sunday dress up clothes. She was a perfect seamstress. She always wore a hat. Sometimes we had hats also.
Remember the song "Easter Parade"? In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it... Wonderful memories about good times from the past.

Yes I remember In your Easter Bonnet and the song Easter Parade
My most disappointing Easter was when we were supposed to go find Easter eggs and I came down with the mumps and couldn't go. That was horrible. I had the mumps 3 times. I loved to go find Easter eggs.

Winnie, what a cute picture of you with your Easter basket. I love decorating for Easter too and I love Chocolate eggs, especially the hersheys candy coated in pastel eggs. I am glad they don't have them at any other time but Easter. I would be the size of a barn. lol

Marilyn , I grew up with Easter bringing us our new summer church shoes and a new dress. My mother was a wonderful seamstress too and always made us such pretty clothes. There were some occasions when I had a hat but I didn't like them on my head so I was never wanting to wear one.

Yes, I do remember the wonderful song "In your Easter Bonnet"! I believe there is an old movie where the song came from as I have this vague memory of watching it a long time ago.

Bonnie, I love those Hershey candy coated pastel eggs too! Oh my, you can't eat just one!!

Talking about mothers who sewed...I remember when I was six years old, sitting in the back seat of our big old car, watching my mother sketch a picture of a little dress. This was 1950. We had moved to a town with a JC Penneys, a Dunlaps and a CR Anthony department stores. It was summer and my mother was sketching a little plaid dress with a white collar, so she could go home and make it for me to wear on the first day of second grade at my new school. I never owned but two ready made dresses in my first 18 years of life...and that was because her arthritis in her hands was so bad she could not sew one spring. By age 15 I was making my own clothes, with her guidance. She had gone to work full time. One winter day she took me into a fancy dress shop to show me a pretty wool dress, and said, "You can make this!" I was scared to cut into that piece of wool when we got it, but it turned out great and I wore it for many years.

Ruth, thank you so much for the adorable Easter card! It's just the sweetest thing with the little chickies! My mother hated sewing, but I always got a beautiful dress for Easter along with a hat and new shoes and, very important, new white gloves. Most of the time the dress wasn't technically new, but a hand-me-down from my cousin Janey. But that never bothered me because I always adored her and looked up to her. It was such a special feeling leaving for church on Easter morning in that "new" dress!

Happy Day!

I still have a pair of white gloves. I had almost forgotten that. What I hated most about dressing up as a mom was the girdle and nylons. I am so glad those aren't in style now. Loved my Easter bonnets though.

I remember going with my mother to purchase some hose. The lady took a thin box from a shelf, opened it, turned back the tissue paper, and ran her hand into one of the stockings to show how sheer they were. Remember the seams up the back of the legs, they were hard to get straight. I hated garter belts.

Garter belts were awful! I didn't like the hose either. What a difference when they learned to make them with out the seam.

Happy Easter and good morning everyone!

I have to be different here - lol....I liked garter belts and hated panty hose :(! Glad to be going "stockingless" these days :)! I too remember the lady behind the counter with stocking and running her hand in them, also remember having to ask for bra's that were behind the counter. When they measured you and went to the dressing room with you! I won't even get started on the TV commercials now about bras! My poor Mom would have died of shock to see these :)!

Happy Easter everyone- hope your day has been a blessed one!
Hugs, Ruth

True, about present day commercials. It is sad that our grand kids will probably never experience the more refined way of life that we remember. In our four year old class the subject of bags came up. I then told them how shop keepers used to wrap your purchase in Brown paper and tie it with string. They said, "Like a Present!", and I had to agree with them. Things were better then, in many ways. We have tried to teach our granddaughters about, "Back in the olden days." Our community has a bygone days event each year. They use a corn shelled, make corn cob dolls or rag strip dolls. They watch the blacksmith work, ride in the horse drawn cart, etc. Here they have used the rub board to wash doll clothes, etc.Outdoor cooking is fun to them also.

Well I guess it is up to us or those who can or want to. to teach things like that to our little ones or things like this will be long gone.

Somethings are needed to continue, don't you think so?
