We missed all of the overnight rain, it was east of us and West too. But about 7am it arrived. At 10am we went to the car, got soaked, got Hadlee and went to Walmart. We got wet again as we entered, and as we left the store it was still raining! I had an umbrella, but it is not much help with sideways rain. We already have the North wind, but they say it will get much worse about 4 pm. 25-50mph out of the north...all night long.

Marilyn it has rained on and off all day. Thunder & lightning with wind and heavy rain. My plants are loving it.

Sorry you got wet - hope you are warm and cozy now with a hot cup in your hand.

Sara, I just did more chores, fed the chickens, then the three big dogs. I scrambled almost three dozen eggs, which they love. The North wind is picking up now.
My plants are loving the rain too! I heard, years ago that plants really grow when it is lightening.
Every day this week I have moved water buckets in the horse barn. Now the front stalls each have three buckets. My son either did not notice of did not care, but today it was a good deal because he has a major leak at the far end of the arena and he told me not to try to turn the water on.
Now I can make that hot tea, and enjoy it.

Marilyn hadn't heard of lightning affecting plants. We are now under a wind alert until in the morning. Up to 50 mph gusts. Warming drivers on east-west roads to be careful. I guess wind could broadside them.

Years ago I met a lady who told this story about her aunt. The aunt had planted tomatoes and a hail storm hit. After the plants recovered she had a bumper crop so every year when her tomato plants bloomed she beat them with a straw broom and always had a good crop. I've never tried it but she might had been on to something.

Oh Sara that is too funny! But if it works...We had rain most of the morning so inside jobs were on our agenda. Hoping for some nice weather through the week to get outdoors more.

Old Man Winter decided to give us another visit! The North wind is really howling! It is 37° but the wind chill is 32°. I sure hope it does not actually drop to freezing or below. I hope this is our Easter Spell too! The propane truck came yesterday. Yea. Since my husband has already cleaned the wood stove, I can use a burner to help heat the kitchen. It continues to rain off and on.

We had quite the line of storms go through last night. Woke me up at 3:45 but was over by 4:30. We were under a tornado watch until 7 am. Lots of lightning but thankfully not much wind. All is qiuet now at 7:30. Supposed to be cloudy then clear up. I miss the gentle Spring rains.

So the rain let up this morning. It is sunny but VERY windy! The girls are hiding out in the coop. I guess they don't like their feathers ruffled by the wind.

At least they have feathers! My colored egg layers are looking like they are in molt. This is the strangest bunch of chickens. I bought them, left overs at the feed store, last April. They were a month or so old. I fed them baby chick feed for a long time then something else for a month or two. Then at 20 weeks they started layer feed. But not a single egg until November. And they lay in the afternoon...late. They are crazy, but we love the pretty eggs with the golden yellow yolks.

I'm glad to hear you have some too. But my chickens have always molted in early autumn. Like I said, these are crazy.

Denise have you ever given your hens kibbles and bits...dog food?
I've been giving mine a couple of handfuls each evening. Mr. Rooster a big tall Rhode Island Red guy loves his treats. He is so funny standing by the feed barrel, waiting expectantly for the red plastic coffee can to be brought out, opened...just for him. Or so it seems. At least I always laugh at him!

There is a lady on you tube who suggested that hens lay more consistently if they get ample protien. Since I switch back and forth between three brands of crumbles...due to lack of avaliability, and one feed is 15% protien, while the others are 16%, I decided to buy some kibbles. Besides it is a fun word to say! LOL!!! She said they eat mice and bugs and worms, so why not let food.

I gave my girls some cut up apples today. Wbile i was in the coop one of them kept pecking at my boot. Lol they love the scratch feed with grit added in. I do give them ground oyster shells when they need them but that I mix in their food.I have never given them kibble but do give them treats of seeds and dried vegetable pieces. JT thinks I'm crazy for spoiling them but I love it.

Yesterday mine enjoyed corn on the cob, and pieces, and broccoli stems. They have a lamb feeder of oyster shell.
Some times they get soured milk, when we don't drink it up or make cornbread. I try to buy them some meal worms now and then...boy do they love them.
