Well, true Florida form, we have flipped on the Spring switch this week and it has been in the low to mid 70s everyday. This weekend is supposed to be in the mid 80s!! Thankfully, it is not humid and the nights are really chilly. That might change this weekend some but we have a 7 day forecast with day temps between mid 70s to mid 80s and not humid. Works for me!! All of the deciduous trees are busting out with new baby leaves, the Azalea bushes are blooming now, and the Pine pollen is is full blast everywhere. Pollen season is also here in the deep South and allergies are cranking up!

On my way in this afternoon from the truck I saw little tiny purple flowers getting ready to open. I was quite surprised to see the color so had to take a closer look. Sure enough these teeny tiny flowers are in bud.

I will be looking forward to warmer temps. Today got up to 53!

We have been having a record breaking heat wave the likes of which we have never seen! We knew it was going to be bad when we kept seeing the upcoming forecasts for this week....a week to 10 days of over 100+ temps and Tuesday was going to be 115+. 115?????? That has never happened here before! I think just the THOUGHT of it was causing a lot of worry.
We just started swathing our bluegrass seed, last night was night 4...or maybe 5....I'm already losing count...haha! Brad is on the nightcrew this year after not being for a really long time. He gets up around midnight and they cut all night until they come in for breakfast sometime after 8am. Then they will sleep all afternoon before getting up again that night. It can't be cut during the heat of the day or it will shatter. On Tuesday, I kept watching the 2 thermometers, just waiting for the temperature to top out. I really wanted to wake him up so he could see it but I didn't. Our outside thermometer in the shade said 117 and our neighbor had 120. I went out about 7:30 pm and went for a little walk and it was 91. There was a little breeze and it felt nice. No one was out, no tractors, no one working....very quiet. I'm so thankful that they are sleeping during the worst of the heat or they would be out trying to work in it. Not good.
The rest of the week should be 100 or high 90s...feels pretty cool now!

Oh Debbie, those are horrid temps. We have heat indexes of over a 100 until today. Monday I went to work with JT and knew it was going to be hot so wore sleeveless. Bad idea, now I have sunburn on my arms and shoulders. There was a breeze and that's probably why I didn't think much of it. So now I've been home the last few days. It just burns when anything touches it and especially the sun.

Debbie, your temps this week were unbelievable and dangerous! I hope by now things have come down to more reasonable ones. I saw the predictions on weather.com but it is always more impactful when someone you know tells the story of where they are located.
Denise, those surprise sunburns are no fun! We forget that bad burns from the sun are no different from a hot stove. First and second degree burns are the same no matter what the source. I hope you are getting better now.

Today, it is uncertain exactly what Elsa will actually do, but we will most likely still get a lot of extra rain. The high winds and tornado type rain storms are not known because we are not exactly sure if the storm will pick up strength as it enters the Gulf and strengthen. Right now, it is a wait and see what happens. Meanwhile we have been having this big electrical thunderstorm with pouring rain since about 5:30 am. Pretty soon, I expect the alligators to stroll up the driveway any day now to meet their new neighbors……..me!! This place is a total swamp!

Winnie, stay safe! I haven't seen the news for awhile so I'm not sure what your Elsa update is.
The temperatures are so much cooler now....only 100...haha! It feels normal compared to the other day. I have been going out for a walk in the evenings and it's been around 90 with a breeze. Surprisingly, it feels fairly comfortable.
Denise, how is the sunburn? They can sneak up on you fast. I learned something a couple of weeks ago about sunscreen. Do not use it if it's expired...about 2 days afterwards, I broke out in an ITCHY, hive like rash wherever I put it. ugh! Dr. Google said that it could happen with expired ingredients. I figured it would be better than getting burned but I'm not sure. It will be going in the trash.

The weather story this morning looks fairly certain that Elsa will be zooming up the western coast of Florida and then crossing the state inland where we are located. The exact strength of this storm can change either stronger or weaker and that will be determined later into late Tuesday. All we can do is just prepare and hope for the best. I do hate Hurricane season because Florida is vulnerable on both the Atlantic and Gulf side. How many more days until November 30h???LOL!!!!!

Winnie -- keeping you in my thoughts. Too bad you can't ship some of that water out west. I think there are quite a few of us wishing for November. Or October at least.

Winnie,
I hope you didn't get much from Elsa. I know down the Gulf coast it didn't really do much, the kids said. Grateful for that. We were supposed to get something but didn't. Though where my son is in central Jersey they got quite a lot of rain. I guess that was what was left of Elsa.
This morning is reminding me a little of fall mornings. I was up at 5 and it is a bit foggy. Supposed to get up near 90 with heat index of 100 so nothing like fall weather.

Ok, Denise, now that you have been in Ohio for a few days...how is the weather?
I was reading the farmers almanac on line yesterday. Looks like winter will be unpredictable, all over the thermometer...
Just like the weather we have experienced for several years now.

It looks like after the horrible heat of August, it is going to be kind to us with cooling showers. We've had rain the last week but it has made it muggy with the heat and humidity. September looks to be bringing in better temps. Not getting above 77 the first week. I look forward to cooler days. Just can't take the heat anymore. Time for deck sitting in the cooler mornings!

My Brother in law and nephew can't get her for Mr. Warrens Funeral, they live in New Orleans and drove to Texas to escape the Hurricane Ida! They both have tested positive for covid. I don't know if they were near the latest one to hit Texas.
