I just thought I'd start a thread on knitting. There is so much info out there. Would enjoy seeing your favourite knitting sites. Do you have a favourite pattern?
One site that I like to check out every now and again is

The only issue I have with that site is that I have no clue how it works and I just do not want to spend the time figuring it out. lol I'm hoping it will come to me via osmosis! lol They do have lots of patterns, free and for purchase.

| I've been really working on knitting, and I hope to graduate to some more complex patterns. Right now I'm trying to figure out yarn over and slip slip knit. Doing a lot of ripping out and starting over! :) But I'm determined! I like this site http://www.allfreeknitting.com/ except for all the adds with icky medical photos. Did you ever look at it? |

| Yes, I love to knit too!! We have a local yarn store that offers classes and once I retired, I took some. They have helped me so much because the experienced teachers were able to show me what I was doing wrong and how to fix mistakes when I made them. The classes were worth every penny !! |

| I wish I had thought to ask my mom to teach me a few years ago. She was the most amazing knitter, but at 93 she's kind of forgotten how. I should post a picture of something she made. I'll try to do that. |

Winnie, lucky you have a local yarn store. Ours closed last year. She just couldn't make it. I was sad to see her go. I miss not being able to buy quality yarn when I go into town.
When I knit socks I like to use Heritage Silk Paints (85% merino super wash wool / 15% mulberry silk) from Cascade and use the pattern from a prior post. It's a very fine yarn and takes a while to knit a sock!
Another yarn that I like to use is called Frolicking Feet (Maine Made) and is hand painted done roving yarns. I had to design my own pattern for that one because I couldn't find one. I've tweaked it so that the sock fits my size. Because the yarn is thicker, it takes less time to knit a pair of socks. They really have some funky colours.
Oh and here is my yarn drawer:
The yarn on the left was sent to me by my friend in Australia. The skeins are from Germany. Haven't used any of it yet, as I'm not sure about a pattern.

| Oh I SO want to be able to knit like that! I'm trying a washcloth with a lacy pattern and have ripped it out and started over 4 times. But I'm determined to figure it out. It's in red, white and blue variegated cotton yarn and my intent is to add it to the Fourth of July party box. So who ever ends up as my partner, look out! :) LOL |

Shannon, good for you to take on a knitting goal. I do enjoy knitting. I find it relaxing and .... it's a portable project not requiring a tonne of supplies!

| Me too, Denise, knitting socks is one of my goals. I'm very excited tonight I finally made some progress on the dishcloth with the lacy pattern that I've been working on and ripping out for several days. I'm happy to say I can now YO, SSK and PSSO without having to start over! :) |

| My first pair of socks was a tube style which was a good beginning so I could get used to knitting in the round on needles and not have to made a heel. The pattern used a large needle and nice thick soft yarn so the socks made up into great lounging socks or perfect for wellies for outdoor chores. |

Oh boy, I'm nearly brave enough to go for the socks! I've mentioned my mom's wonderful knitting, so here's a couple of pictures of her work from back in the 60's. They've really held up well. She had skirts to match all her knitted sweaters and jackets, and she always looked beautiful. The blue mohair was (and still is!) my favorite.

| I admire all of you who knit. My aunt taught me when I was 13. Then when my son was in junior high I did a bunch of broom stick lace. About 15 years ago I took a class, but was so busy with my baby sitting, there was no spare time. My goal is to finish shelling pecans, finish a tee shirt quilt for a friend and then my yarn is calling my name. I crochet fluffy dish rags. I never learned to read crochet directions,but when someone shows me, I can usually get something simple done. So yes I am interested in a knitting thread. |

Marilyn, my mom taught me when I was about the same age. I didn't do too much of it (too busy being a snotty teenager, I guess) but now that I have become interested again, it's coming back to me.
On another note, I'm very interested in your tee shirt quilt. A very close friend of mine has asked me to help her make one out of her late husbands tee shirt collection, because she knows I sew. But I've never made a quilt. Is it hard?
On another another note (hee hee), I've decided to knit Christmas gifts for all my close family members this year. YIKES! |

| Amy, So fantastic that you have your mom's knitted sweaters to keep and wear. I haven't knitted any major projects yet. My daughter is working on a Christmas stcking for her and her husband's new nephew. She made on for each one of their family. Her bil,sil,and then their first son and now their second. |
