This idea for a group project is for putting together a collection of favorite family recipes, new or old, trying them out on our families
and then discussing the results here.

Your thoughts are invited and welcomed.

Here is the copied and pasted idea I posted on the projects page:

"I am thinking maybe we can take a couple of days to go through our own recipe files and select one favorite from each category (as many or as few categories as you like), entree, salad + dressing, soup, vegetable, breakfast, dessert, etc.
We can then email the recipes to the group by an agreed upon date. Then, by using our "new" recipes we can each plan a meal for our families and the next day we can talk about it here.

When writing our recipes we can include a bit of history or story about where/who it came from etc.

The recipes we collect can make up a section of our binders.

What do you all think? Any ideas, suggestions?"

Kathleen I will be posting at least one recipe here shortly. I plan to post more than that, but one to start with. :)

I love this idea, Kathleen :) Just wondering - do you want us to post whenever we want, or regularly on a certain day?

It's really up to all of you. I think the easiest for everyone would be to scan our recipe(s) save them to .pdf and send it out in a group email. No typing, and only one email to send. Once Shannon send out the member info list we can use to make a "group" for emails.
What are your thoughts?

That sounds good - I think I personally would do better with more specifics - maybe each season, one of each group ie breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, etc. or whatever else we'd like? I do good with deadlines :)

That's a good idea. How about if we do one recipe per week, Monday, and we can follow a list, such as: week 1: eggs
week 2: soups week 3: entree week 4: veggie week 5: dessert/snacks etc.

So on Mondays we would send out the recipe(s) and everyone will prepare a meal using the recipe on Wednesday, and we can all share on Thursday how the family liked it, if we altered the recipe, etc.

Everyone can share one or more recipes each week if they want to.

Opinions?????

I like the idea of a day & specify recipe. It will keep me focused.

I do have a suggestion about whether we send it by e-mail or post it here.

The problem with e-mails is when there are new members all of the recipes will have to be re-sent. If we post them here then the recipes are available to all. That way Shannon will not be responsible for keeping up with new members and whether they have the recipes or not.

We may need a topic for talking about the recipes and one for the actual recipes. Just a thought.

With trying to get out of this house as fast as we possibly can, I have not done the list yet :( I am so sorry everyone! I will work on it as I take a break from packing!!! As an FYI of what is going on (abbreviated version) - the neighbor threatened to shoot me on Thursday, the cops were called, and they said since they did not witness it, and my children (who were all out with me!) do not count as witnesses... so we are looking for a house t rent ASAP ad then will put our house on the market. Please pray that God will provide the funds to have both a mortgage and rent, and that He will keep us safe in the meantime!

As for the recipes - I truly love this idea... I will try to go through mine here soon.

I think that if new members should sign on, they can "jump in" at whichever week we are at. That way it is just a matter of adding one name to the "contact group" email.

If a new member would like to have all the previous recipes I wouldn't mind sending them the weeks they are missing.

Posting recipes on here means lots of typing, cutting and pasting...... too much work.

Shannon: OMG!!! Best of luck getting out of there. Be safe.

Sounds great Kathleen! I'm wondering if we could post earlier our recipe, as then we'll have a little more time to get groceries if needed?

Sorry, I got it all wrong. I first thought we were to send recipes to Shannon and she would get them to everyone else. Now I realize that she will send us the e-mail list and each of us will send our recipes to others.

Shannon- don't worry about the list. I know you've got a lot going on right now. It's no rush, really. If you need someone else to take it over too, don't hesitate to ask.

Kathleen- I'm a little confused about how we're doing this. I just need some clarification. So, on Monday, we'll email the group a recipe of whatever the subject for the week is. But then won't everyone just have a bunch of different recipes from everyone? Would they just choose whichever one they want to try out that week? I'm sorry I'm so confused about this, I just want to understand what you meant.

If it's email the recipe out on Monday, and then cook Wednesday, then I'm with Joyce about getting them a little earlier to make sure we have the right ingredients on hand. The only quick trip I can do is Dollar General, and their stock can be limited... :)

During the day I have given a lot of thought about being a part of the recipe collection and preparing the recipes. Because I cook for one and also have dietary needs I will not be able to join y'all.

This is why I am asking you all for your suggestions about how we could do this.... there are soooo many options.

We could always just share our recipes with each other and sort of create our own little "cookbook".

Then take our time, and prepare whatever we choose, when we choose. It need not be for a big family. For me, it is just myself and my husband.

And we can adjust always opt to adapt recipes to better suit any special dietary needs or special tastes.

I personally love collecting recipes of all kinds and enjoy reading about how, where, or whatever about how they came about. I actually read cookbooks as though they were novels.... cover to cover.

This was just a thought about something we could possibly do and enjoy together.

I think it is a fun idea to just share recipes... kinda like the virtual potluck that I think it was Nini started on the main forum... then it is up to you if you try them or not. For example, our family is large and gluten free, so many recipes I will have to "tweak" to make them work for us.

I'll try to compile the e-mail list tomorrow :)

Yes that sounds good. So now the question is how to share them. I will probably type mine out anyway, so I don't mind posting them here or in an email. If we do an email system, we can still have the themes for each week that you suggested, Kathleen. You could pick the theme, and we can have a designated day to email each other our recipes. I like the idea of creating our own cookbook. It would be personal, and available whenever we would want to use it. I can see myself needing to get a separate binder for this! :) That made me laugh when you said you read a cookbook like a novel! I'm the same way. I often read while I'm eating, and half the time it's a cookbook.

Does that sounds good Kathleen? You pick themes for the week, and we'll email them to each other?

That sounds like a really good plan Erin. I would prefer email rather posting here, that way if someone wishes to hand-write their recipes and attach them. Hand-written recipes or typed ones with hand-written notations are great (as long as they are legible) and add such a personal touch to the book.

Sounds great!!! I have to admit - I do love hand written recipe cards :) I might end up hand writing those that aren't hand written, and gluing them onto recipe cards :)

I have the spreadsheet done, with exception of adding the email addresses. I will finish that up today and send it out. Yesterday we went and drove by about a dozen houses :/

Erin - I am not sure how many members we have, or who all is in this group.... Can you send me alist and I will compare it to those I have? Then I can email those I have not heard from, to see if they would be willing to send me their info.

I love Han written recie cards as well... But I will probably type mine in an email, lol. Time will tell ;)

Shannon I will send you the list today. I would love send mine hand written as well, but I must admit the problem for me is technical! I have a wifi printer/scanner that we have had less than a year, bought brand new, and it seems like I'm always having problems with it. I'm not very happy about it, especially since I use the printer for homeschooling constantly. I promise it isn't just me being tech-challenged either! The thing is just so annoying. I might give it a try though.

I wonder...can we have hand-write them and send them snailmail? I would truly love to do this :) Our group isn't that terribly big so I think it would be manageable and make it oh so special! I would love to have a binder full of handwritten recipes from my Wildflower sisters :) Something else to throw at you Kathleen...haha! It would probably need to be done maybe once a month instead though - but maybe we could do a whole theme of cards - like spring veggies, and make a meal based of that, including desserts, etc.? Just another thought to throw at you Kathleen :)

I like that idea too, Joyce. Or maybe, we could do both. We can do the emailed weekly recipes, and the snail mail recipes could be holiday or seasonal. Just an idea. For example, 4th of July is coming up, so send any fun red white and blue recipes... I guess that doesn't apply to you Joyce! Lol, I didn't think of that. Or another idea for summertime could be ice cream/frozen recipes. Obviously apple or pumpkin for fall. That sort of thing. What do you think?

Well, ladies, I just checked into this thread too! (This is what I get for traveling.) Ha!
The cookbook/recipe collection sounds great to me.
Only problem I would have is (drum roll) due to arthritis and essential tremors..I type most of my recipes now..in cursive..if you please..It looks hand-written and I could add the antidotes. Would that be ok? Otherwise, if I hand write them I promise you would not be able to read them.
What do you think?
