Hello fellow farmgals,

A gorgeous day here in way Northeastern NY to be foolish! Oh, if you are interested on the origin of April's Fool, I found an interesting article. You may check it out here:

http://news.discovery.com/history/origins-of-april-fools-day-20130401.htm

It's already April. I don't know about you but I'm edging to go out and tend to my garden. I have lots of plans this year, one of which is to make a butterfly & bee friendly garden. All I need now is a bit more time to sit with my books.

So what are you up too?

Cheers!

Enjoy your trip Darlene visiting with family! I'm sure it will be fun. We will also be traveling this weekend to spend time with DH's family. They always have a large gathering for Easter. Looking forward to catching with family.

What is everyone else doing this holiday weekend?

Just returned from my MA weekend to this lovely package!

I'll be working on a couple of badges and needed some supplies. Love the bag. Looking forward to spending some time reading the Mary Jane Farm Special Recipe Issue.

But first, I need to get off this computer and get a bit of work done for tomorrow's class. I cannot look at that special issue until my work is done! lol

Cheers!

Fun stuff Carole, Glad you girls had good trips and hopefully a great Easter.
Carole I started to answer all your question on the hen house topic and my computer said other wise, so lost it all and I will start over and send it to you by email. See we have a new gal, do you still want me to gather info for her and get it out to everyone. I would still like to take care of that if you all wish. Just let me know. Our sheets need to be updated and if we are going to get some new members this would be a good time. Have a great day everyone.

Farmgirl Hugs & May all your Wishes come true.

Sherry, I would love for your to continue to gather the info on our farmgals. You do such an amazing job. Thank you so much for wanting to continue with this project.

Last week, I took the opportunity to write/snail mail a card with a note to our "inactive" farmgals. I do hope to hear from them soon. It would be wonderful if they would continue to join us. We have such a wonderful crew, but I know how life can sometimes get busy.

Cheers!

Allow me to share with you a box I just picked up today at the post office from my dear crazy, I love her so much, friend Cheryl!

Aussie chocolate fest! OMG, she does that every year!!!!

This is one of those positive internet stories. I met her way back when we posted on Quilting Newsgroups. Does anyone remember that, or am I dating myself? lol We just hit it off! We've been friends for more then 15 years. It is my goal to visit her in Australia.

Any one want some chocolates? They are absolutely delish! Would you laugh if I told you that my dd would often get Bilby, and wombats in her Easter basket? lol

Enjoy your day everyone. If you need me I'll be on a chocolate buzz!

Wow, that's a lot of chocolate Carole. Thank You for the Easter card, it is always good to hear from you. We are in the midst of calving and getting ready to start field work so busy days. It has been spitting rain and snow here the last few days, it has been a challenge to make sure those babies are warm and dry. I am hoping the weather warms up a bit soon, I need to prune the grape vines and finish pruning some trees I didn't get to last fall. They are starting to bud so it needs to be done soon. Take care everyone.

Hugs
Julie

Carole - your chocolate looks wonderful! What a neat box of goodies! I have an old rookie that moved to Australia for graduate school, married, and is living there. She says it is great, except they have all kinds of venomous critters. I worry enough about that around here ;)

Julie - what kind of calves? Are you a dairy farm? I love love love jersey cows and dream of one day having my own, but time will tell :)

We raise beef cattle Shannon, although this was a working dairy farm for many years ans a lot of the equipment is still here, beef cattle are much easier and demand less of our time. It is my favorite time of year seeing all those little babies.

Julie, good to see you! I bet it's sweet to see all those babies! So cute! I'm guessing you are getting some crazy cold weather your way too? It is suppose to snow tonight here!

Shannon, I read you on the venomous critters! But she is used to it. I would love to visit Australia. One day I will!

Just thought I'd share a nice article about a small dairy farm owned by Diane St Clair in Orwell, Vermont. Diane St Clair wrote an amazing cookbook - The Animal Farm Buttermilk Cookbook: Recipes and Reflections from a Small Vermont Dairy I so enjoy reading it. It has my favourite buttermilk biscuit recipe.

Evening Everyone,

Presently in Cortland, NY (approx. 6 hour drive from home) staying over night before we head in the morning to Ithaca for DD college event. She has been accepted in the Physical Therapy program and they are having an open house. She still has not made up her mind as to where she will like to attend (she was accepted in every college that she applied) but Ithaca is #1. After tomorrow we are headed West to visit two other colleges the following day and onward home. I'm exhausted just writing about it! lol

Have a great weekend everyone! Cheers!

Hello everyone,

Just returned home from a College visitation fest! Logged more than 880 miles. Gosh, I'm exhausted! We stopped at the Cheese Cake Factory in Albany, I had never been. It was amazing. DD and I rolled out of the restaurant. It was all so good. On the way home (3 hours to go) we talked about how full we were! lol Overall, great productive weekend of college visitation. She still hasn't made up her mind but, she's getting there.

Darlene, hope you're having a great time visiting with family.

So what is everyone up too?

Keep well! Cheers!

It is wet and rainy here - and will be staying that way all week, with occasional brief breaks. I'm hoping on one of those breaks, I can get my bean seeds planted in the garden. Rumor has it that it is warm enough down here to start pepper seeds in the ground. I think I might try that as well! Especially since only two of my seedlings I started inside, out of 11, survived!!! I finished helping my daughter make her apron. I still have not finished decorating my notebook. I guess I'll get there ;) I did have my first OB appointment yesterday (ummmmmm... yeah.... at 21 weeks!) The doctor thinks it is a girl, but we should know for sure after my ultrasound next week.

Shannon, do you like to know the gender of your baby prior to its birth? Just curious. Because I had an amiosynthesis (I was 38 when I had my daughter), I asked for the gender.

Beautiful weather here. So pleasant given how cold it has been. DH took a couple of days off and is working on the roof. He did one half last year and the other half this year.

It has been an emotional week for me. Aside from the fact that I am dealing with the reality that my little girl (who is not so little anymore) will be going to off to college this fall, just lots going on with my close friends. Life is short! So important to enjoy the moment.

Darlene, how did you enjoy your family visit?

Julie, has the weather warmed up for those babies?

Good Morning all. Yes Carole, we are finally warming up a bit. Night time temps are still below freezing, but it is getting in the 60's during the day. My tulips are all up, my strawberries are starting to poke through as is the rhubarb. I think the trees will be leafed out by next week. I ordered 4 cherry trees that the university of Saskatchawan has developed so I have been getting my spot ready for them. They should be here next week. I am very excited to get them. I have waited 4 years for this variety to be released to the states. They are supposed to have the sweetness of a bing cherry, now I will have to figure out how to keep the birds away. Have a great day everyone.

Hugs

Oh Julie, cherry tree! We have one in our yard! Planted a couple of years ago. I hope it made it through this cold winter. We haven't yet reaped any fruits. Much to young. Did lose my pear tree last year!

Not much ground wise is poking around here. Although we have had a couple of nice days, perhaps I need to do a walk around.

Enjoy your day everyone! Cheers!

Carole and Julie, both of your cherry trees sound nice! I have a little tree started. It is about 1 and 1/2 inches high. It is called a loquat tree and has little orange fruits when it gets that big. The seeds are huge.

Have a good day!

Good morning everyone,

Gorgeous morning! I was able to sit in the sun and enjoy my breakfast. I will admit it was a tad cold when the sun hid behind clouds, but I was determined to eat my breakfast outside!

We have company coming this weekend. My DH sister, Brother in law and niece are coming down for a college visit not far from our home. BIL will be helping dh with the rest of the roof on Sat and Sun. It will certainly speed things up and free dh's to work on the SWMBO list. For those who do are not familiar with the acronym SWMBO, it is a term that is used in the wood working world meaning - She Who Must Be Obeyed! I like it! LOL

What are you all up to?

Cheers!

Hi all my sweet sisters, I am sure you seen where I haven't been on lately. When it rain it pours. Please everyone keep hubby (Terry) in your prayers. Last Thursday came home to Terry not in the house and it was nine thirty p.m. I went out to the shop , barn etc. I was yelling...... I came back in the house to call 911. Here he is sitting on the ottoman wet and muddy and cuts every where. Took him to the emergency room. Found out he has a disease ( can't spell it). He was dehydrated, low potassium and low electrlytes. So they started IV's. Within an hour he was good to go. He wondered out side fell in the creek behind our house, and scratched himself up pretty bad.
But doing better.

Me went to the doctor. I have to have surgery for kidney stone.

Yesterday had a flat on my car. Now had to buy a new tire.

And this happened all within a week and a half.

Now am tired!!!!!lol!!!

Oh my goodness Marlee!!! I cannot even imagine the fear you must have felt while looking for Terry! Then finding him in that state! My Dad and sister had episodes where there potassium got low and they didn't know much of anything. Very scary for sure. And you have kidney stones :(! What type of surgery do they do for that? Our DIL gets them and they "blast" hers. My hubby has had them once, hope never again! He was able to pass his, thankfully!
Praying all these trials are over and that you will have a good week!
Please keep us posted. I have not been on here either as my DH was sick, but is better now :)! Getting old is not for "sissies"! :)!
you and your family are in my prayers.
Hugs, Ruth
