That is gorgeous work Carole. Running out of thread how annoying for you.

Well it is beautiful, Happy Thanksgiving.

Today I'm sending off my Christmas Table Runner for the swap I hosted - to another of our henhouse - Shannon Hudson. I'm also finishing up the Stocking and packing it up for the Stocking swap and completing wrapping for another package for a farm girl. I also plan to put the binding on the quilt that's been on my bed for almost a year - yes, I have been using it with no binding. LOL! I'll post a picture.

I love seeing what others are completing. We are a talented group of farm girls.

Excited about the table runner, Linda! I am actually trying to finish up mine, whenever Emi naps! It is not happening too well, but I am trying! I need to finish up my stocking as well... And my tags! Soooo much to do, but thankfully Farmgirls are generally gracious when it comes to late swaps. I certainly had not taken into consideration the possibility of a colicky baby, an injured foot, and now very sick children. Thankfully it is my left foot, so I can still use my sewing machine ;)

Here's a picture of the quilt I made for Ed for Christmas. The center is a fabric panel topography map of The State of Texas, with 12 scrappy-brown-fabric blocks from my monthly BOM in my small quilting group. (Each month one of us chooses a pattern that we all make in our own colors - at the end of the year we have 12 blocks that make a nice lap quilt - or we use them with other blocks in a quilt.) To make the quilt rectangular instead of square I added a piano key border top and bottom, then bordered it in a "barn wood" fabric. I framed each section with dark brown. I like how it turned out. The back is MaryJane's Milk Cow Kitchen trucks fabric in brown.

Linda - the quilt looks absolutely phenomenal! May I ask an idiot question? When you are doing the backing, and the material is not quite wide nough, do you just add an additional strip of material, or do you cut the back in blocks to make it symmetrical? Does that make sense? For example if the quilt is 50 inches and the material for the backing only 36 inches wide, do you have one 36 and then one sewn to. It that is 14? Or 5 10 inch, two 25 inch?

You can do that. I sometimes piece together a scrappy backing, but usually I get enough fabric to sew two pieces together and then the quilter will get the seam either across the back or down the middle of the back. Many quilters use scrappy backs of quilts. When I find good fabric on sale for a great price I will get 5 or 6 yards of fabric - that will be good for a quilt that is about 90-108 x 80. You can also buy fabric made for backings that is 108" wide and however long you buy. The you usually have no seam, even for a king size quilt.

He loves the quilt! I knew he would. Thanks for all your nice comments. And the design my longarm quilter used for it is the outline of the state of Texas with a star in the center connected to a star and then repeating. A great design for this quilt!

Linda, Your quilt is gorgeous! Love all the browns and pretty blocks! You are inspiring me to get busy and finish up three quilts that I have started :)! Really not much to do with any of them, except "Do it"!
Thanks for the inspiration
