Sara, I too want to put 2023 behind, but 2024 may not be much better for us. My mother-in-law is still in the nursing home and it doesn't look like she will leave except for days out or a few overnight stays. My husband is her youngest and he's been stressed handling her finances, medical appointments and communicating with his siblings. We take each day at a time now. The nursing home is close by and has caring staff which is a blessing.

Thanks Michelle, and in the coming new year may your garden flourish and your cows give plenty of milk.

Vanessa, I hope the coming new year finds your DH less stressed, your MIL doing better, and you able to do what brings you joy.

To all of us I hope the coming new year brings us joy, peace, and the health to enjoy it all.

Good Morning, sorry to be absent from this thread as I do enjoy what everyone has to say. We lost an another beloved doggie a week ago today, and we at sad. It was such a shock and heartbreak as we had no idea he had cancer or knew anything was wrong until one day he could walk. We were so blessed to have Cruiser in our lives for 10 years he was a rescue. He was so loved and he sure loved us.
CJ, I am happy you found our newest little thread.
Sara, yes I too will try to leave all the bad stuff behind and start fresh in the new year.
Vanessa I hope and pray your MIL will improve so she can come home.
Michelle, the time is flying so fast I believe it will be Spring soon and you will be out gardening again.
I wish you each of you a Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I saw this quote and photo (see under my writing) on Facebook this morning and it reminded of this thread. I never meant to neglect it when I started. Sometimes I have to many irons in the fire.
So let’s start fresh this new year.
It is February already and I was wondering if anyone can please tell me where January went?
You know I still have my Christmas tree up. It usually comes down after 3 Kings Day. Never have I left my tree up so long. But it is still so fresh, pretty, still drinking water and not dropping needles! You can bet I will buy from Dave’s Tree Farm again!
Our Neice is coming Monday for a 5 days, she is from Denver, think I will tell her we left I up just for her. Hee, Hee. She will love it and all her Christmas presents are under the tree. She may be in her 30’s but she will always want to celebrate Christmas.
So now it will soon be Valentine’s Day, oh Erin my Neice has a Valentine package under the tree too.
Have a fabulous weekend and enjoy the Sun if you have it. Or the rain or snow.

Debbie, I love the quote and your story. When I was in sixties, I was blessed to know women in their 80s & 90s who in their own way lived life to the fullest. Through them I learned not to fear getting older but to embrace the coming years as they had with grace and peace.

Being older isn't the problem - thinking old is.

Sara, thank you for that. I am pushing pretty darn close to 70 years old, I am 68 now. And I do try to embrace the 60’s and hope to for the 70’s as well.
But, my mind does not think like I am in my late 60’s when in fact I struggle with it as my body knows my age and it keeps me from doing the things I want to do. I feel old all over my whole body darn it everything hurts. Hee, Hee! I want to do the things I use to do in my 30’s but darn it I can not.
So, I guess I need to tell my mind (self) to do things a little slower and not the way I use. Truth be told all the things I use to do in my 30’s is the reason my body is shot now! Woe is me! So Sara I need to learn to embrace my age as I get older with Grace and Peace as you do and so many of my Farmgirl friends.
Back to my letter writing I am behind.
Enjoy!

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Today I am making hubby Split Pea Soup for the second time in our almost 50 years of Marriage. Hubby loves my Split Pea Soup but I hate Peas, always have! But sometimes I need to cook hubby things I do not like because well he lets me fry my Liver and Onions in the kitchen.

I tell my Hubby and Son the night before that I will be fixing Liver and Onions, and they leave for awhile. They each have tried my Liver and Onions, nope as they do not like the consistency or smell. Now how is that possible it is yummy.
And yes I have tasted my Split Pea Soup and I will admit it’s not that bad. But Son and I will have Chili Mac for dinner tonight.
Enjoy your Sunday Farmgirls.

Debbie, it's probably been over 20 years since I made liver & onions. I still like it but would rather eat it in a cafe since I don't like liver & onions leftovers.

Today I made beef stew with a large T-bone steak. For years I have bought steaks on sale and used them as mini roast, or for soups & stews. Cooking for one it makes sense to me to buy the smallest piece of meat I can find. Several weeks ago I bought a family pack of T-bone steaks for $4.98 lb. Three large steaks. The first one I cooked as a steak than made soup out of the leftovers. I have one more steak in the freezer that I have no idea what I will make with it.

Oh if only we could find T-Bone Steaks here for $4.98 a pound! They are my favorite steak. I like to fry mine in Butter in my Cast Iron Skillet, just like Vera Miles did in Who Shot Liberty Valance with Jimmy Stewart too. Love that movie!
I wish I had another one at to cook the steak but I do not. But if the price ever goes down I will buy them and try beef stew and soup with them.
Thank you for sharing.

Been piddling today but have accomplished a few things that have been needing to be done for a while.

I have checked off sweeping my Yellow Rose Cottage and putting away the electric heater.

Replaced the insulation on the line from the outside A/C fan to the inside unit. I did not go under the house to replace what is under there. I have better sense than to crawl around with all sorts of creepy crawlies.

While I was doing all that a shopper with Instacart was shopping for me and delivered my groceries. I so love home delivery.

You have been busy Sara. No I would not crawl under the house either with the critters. I hate spiders and am scared of them. Snakes not as much but it all depends what type.
I have been busy taking care of my Son Kent. He was in the hospital 6 days and in the ICU 4 days . Somehow he had gotten bacteria in his blood stream and was extremely sick. He has Type A Strep Sepsis Cellulitis, somehow bacteria through his leg from a bug bite, scratch, or open wound. We are so Blessed to have gotten him to the ER in time or we would have lost him. Thankfully he is home now just yesterday but has a long slow recovery. But that is fine we are so thankful, we had answered prayers and I believe a miracle.
Have a beautiful Wednesday everyone.

Debbie such good news to hear your son is improving. A relief for you. Remember the term Dove Tailing? Sara that is what you were doing, multiple tasks at the same time. (well your insta shopper was helping, but a great way to shop. lol) Feels good to get things done that need doing. We are just starting syrup season. Had a run of 60 gallons yesterday. Will be cooking this weekend.

Debbie -- Thankful your son is recovering. Sepsis is scary nowadays since so many bacterial diseases are getting where the antibiotics don't work.

Debbie so glad to hear your son is doing better, I will send postive energy for his continued (speedy) recovery,
I will be 63 this May and have bought some purple clothing items more of a deep rich purple and was told I look really good in that color and am trying to add more colorful clothing items to my life because it makes me happy I normally wear autumn colors which I love but now that I am getting older I am wanting more colorful ones even if it is just splashes here and there. It is time now to make my own happiness. With my body changing so is my mind!

Sheila -- I'm with you for the colorful clothing. In the middle of covid I got tired of the everyday jeans and t shirts so Amazon became my friend and I got some wild and crazy clothes. My favorites so far are harem pants; so comfy I may never go back to jeans, especially now that they are all stretch.
