This is a give away celebrating the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. for a chance to win post a memory of a Christmas past and a recipe for your favorite or traditional sweet treat during the holidays. November 30th will be the last day to enter and a winner will be drawn on December 1st. Each day I will post a picture or clue of what will be in the Early Christmas Present.
Somehow I ended up with two of these cute little reindeer pins, they make me smile, this is the first gift in the box.
Can't wait to read your memories and have some new recipes to try. Enjoy the season Farmgirls.
Hugs,
Gail

I would love to be in the drawing for this Christmas Present Giveaway. Thank you for offering, Gail. That pin is super cute.

One of my favorite memories of Christmas is the year a cousin was born on Christmas Day. I have to start by saying that my parents always had the family at our house for Thanksgiving dinner, and my aunt and uncle hosted Christmas dinner. Early on Christmas Day my uncle Richard called to say that he had taken my aunt Del to the hospital earlier that morning, because she had gone into labor. She had been up starting the turkey and other dinner fixings when she went into labor. After my cousin Vickie was born, he called to say to get the oven heated, and he would be bringing Christmas dinner - partially cooked - to our house. They had double ovens at their house, and we didn't, so my mother had to call the neighbors (who we knew would be going to a relatives for dinner) and ask if we could borrow their oven for part of our dinner. He went home, took the turkey and everything she had been working on, put it in the backseat of the car, and drove to our house. Then he went back to the hospital and came back later for dinner. LOL!

In spite of the interrupted Cooking of the dinner, the last minute cleaning of our house, and starting to fix a dinner we didn't plan on fixing, everything tasted perfect. What a Christmas Day!

Farmgirl hugs,

Oh Gail,,, how sweet of you to share your Christmas Joy with us..

SO many memories,, but today this one comes to mind..

My dad was Career Army and on his 1sr tour of duty in Germany 1952(before he met my mom),, it was his 1st Christmas, and a German family invited him for dinner on Christmas Eve...
so... fast forward,, our last Christmas living in Germany, 1968, dad arranged to have 2 German girls, both Orphans stay with us for several days for Christmas.. Monika was my age and the other little girl was my sisters age.. It was a wonderful Christmas.. sadly we lost touch with each other over the years.. but I still have the wonderful memories...

I missed day two because of internet problems, so catching up, the gift for day two is this cute little stocking, with a sweet treat inside. I had fun stitching this with a lucky Farmgirl in mind.

For day three, at bedtime, a cup of this with sugar and cream will be the key to a beautiful dream.

For day 4 - another little riddle and rhyme - can you guess what it is?
Just a stack of paper it is not, just open the package and see what you've got! All tied with a ribbon and ready to go, just waiting for you to write something you know.
Hope you are having as much fun with this as I am.

Gail, count me in!

The Christmas memory that comes to mind is actually two photos that I have. One is of my mom and I when I was about 9 or 10. I was holding a stuffed poodle I had received that Christmas. I wanted a transistor radio and the one I wanted happened to come in the form of a white stuffed poodle. It is funny now I think back because who would want a poodle with the radio knobs sticking out of its belly? A kid that's who! The other photo is of my dad and I when I was expecting my first child. In that one he is holding his black real poodle. I don't know why those photos came to mind but they were both Christmases I remember. When I was expecting our first that was the Christmas I got baby things and Maternity clothes. UGH LOL!
My favorite Christmas recipe is for Christmas Crack candy. I do it in the crockpot.
1 jar(s)
unsalted peanuts, 16 oz
1 jar(s)
salted peanuts, 16 oz.
1 bag(s)
semi-sweet chocolate chips, 12 oz
1 bag(s)
milk chocolate chips, 12 oz
2 bag(s)
peanut butter chips, 10 oz each
2 pkg
white almond bark 1 lb each

Layer all ingredients in a large crockpot (starting with peanuts). Turn the pot on low, cover with lid, and leave sitting for 30 minutes. Then, remove lid and stir to combine. Replace lid and leave sitting for another 15-30 minutes. Stir again and then spoon mixture on to wax paper, or if you are feeling SUPER fancy, drop into mini-cupcake liners. Allow to harden for at least 1 hour. Enjoy!

You are in Denise, thanks for the recipe and the wonderful memories. It is suppose to get to a high of 52 degrees here in west central MN today - very unusual for this time of year. I think I may get out on the deck for a bit. Enjoy your day!

Oh, oh. I just saw that I forgot to add a recipe to my submission for this giveaway. Here are two of my favorite holiday recipes. One appetizer cracker that is great and the other is one of our favorite holiday no-bake cookies.

Spicy Crackers

1 lb. box of saltine crackers
1-1/2 C Canola Oil
2 Tbls red pepper flakes
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Salad Dressing Mix (3-1/2 T)

Combine oil, pepper flakes, and salad dressing mix in a plastic container with a tight lid(I use my Fix-n-Mix bowl and lid).
Add crackers, cover, and turn the container often until crackers are well coated.
This makes very tasty crackers.

Bourbon Balls
makes 3-1/2 dozen

2-1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers (I always use Nilla brand)
1 Cup Confectioners Sugar
2 Tbls cocoa
1 Cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
3 Tbls corn syrup
¼ Cup Bourbon or Rum

Mix crushed cookies, sugar, cocoa and nuts. Add syrup and rum OR bourbon. Shape into small balls (approx. 1 inch) with hands and roll in more confectioners sugar. There is no baking! Easy as pie and Oh, so good!

Denise,, sounds supper yummy and makes a great sweet treat to put in a cute container and tuck in with a gift...

OOPS,, me too,,, I forgot a recipe..
My easy peasy go to recipe...
My problem is,, I am not a 'measuerer' kinda gal.. I sort of dump and mix...
but my easy Scone recipe is:
approximately 2 c of any type baking mix.. ie :Bisquick, Kruesty, MaryJanes baking mix, etc...
about 1/2 to 3/4c +/- milk
a TBLSP +/- of sugar.. and a handful of -your choice- blueberries, cranberries, nuts choco chips or????

mix together.. to a consistency of a sticky biscuit...
Drop by a large spoonful on a lightly grease baking sheet at 375 for about 15-20min.. depending on your ovens heat..

I am 'That' kinda cook/baker... I am my mother's daughter and cook like her... just eyeball it!

lol!
