Hi ladies, has anyone cross stitched their merit badges? If so can you post pictures. Trying to cross stitch one now. Not having the best of luck.

I've done cross stitch on some, but mainly embroidery. I am "behind" and need to embroider a whole bunch. I've been sewing mine to a denim jacket. What are you doing with yours? I will have to start doing something else with mine soon.

Hi, thanks for the ideas. I don't cross-stitch or embroder and not sure of difference, but I stitched around with a continuous stitch in red emmbrodiery floss and used large playful turquise buttons on the four corners. I sealed the edges with no fray glue and am placing it on my denim jacket. I want to learn how to cross-stitch and hope to take a class in the Fall. Any helpful suggestions?quote:

Jamie,
Cross-stitch is basically a technique using "x" stitches, hence "cross-stitch". There are some variations on that but that's it basically. Embroidery incorporates several different stitches, such as daisy, french-knots, blanket, straight, etc., etc.
You could Google it and get some ideas and patterns. And, craft stores will have books with stitches, designs and supplies.

There are great tutorial videos on you tube as well. That's become my instructional go to!!
I havent started on 'glaming up ' my badges yet?!! Hope that can be a project I get to soon!!

I just got 12 patches onto fabric now I get to start embroidering. I can't wait to see what they come out like. If anyone feels like taking pics it would be great to see how you decide to do yours. I love the heart button idea.

This is what I did with my Cleaning Up/Recycling Badge. I made an ornament using an embroidery hoop and 14 count canvas. I traced the badge onto the canvas and then needlepointed. I used the tent stitch for the design and for the background I used the parisian stitch(first time using that stitch). After the stiching was done, I put the canvas into a 4-inch hoop. Rather than gluing the canvas into the hoop, I sewed a running stitch through the excess canvas and then pulled the threads tight. This action gathered the extra canvas. I traced and cut out a circle from a paper bag for a backing. A trick I learned form my needlepoint book was to lightly spray the paper with water so that after it's glued to the back and dried it will be taut. It looks nice and neat. I can now inscribe all the information on the back. I can hang this on the wall or on a tree! It took a few days to finish but it was fun. I hope to do future badges this way. I'll try to include a picture of it.

Jackie, what a good idea to make ornaments of your badges. I can see them on a tree or on a wreath. I've embroidered two, then realized that when I printed out the pattern, the badges were larger than they were supposed to be. I don't know why. Hope Mary Jane will forgive. Isn't it such fun to earn these!

Thank you Carol! I've been needlepointing since I was ten years old and one night I thought, why don't I needlepoint my badge? It's like a light bulb went on! I too thought the logo was too big, but when I compared it to the printout it matched. Can't wait to needlepoint my other badges!

Has anyone cross stitched their merit badges?
I have a house of 8, recently turned to 6 now, so I may have more time this winter. It's difficult to find time when you run a self-sufficient farm/home. Busy, busy, busy. I do keep print copies in a binder for the future.
