We recently discovered that the large bag of cat food we buy, fits perfectly into a 35 lb. Tidy Cat Litter tub. When we emptied the tub, I washed it and dried it, and poured in the food. I simply wrote on the top "Cat Food" and it works perfectly. No need to buy a special container to hold the food now.

We use cleaned and dried food can for the scoop also.

What a great idea! I used some for homemade laundry soap, birdseed and compost to be carried out to the heap.

I use one for sidewalk salt, for tomato plants, and now refill with the much cheaper bulk kitty litter I get at the pet store.

They're also good (upside-down, of course) for something to sit or stand on when working in the garden.

Well, I tried using them for my chicken nests, but I thought they ended up on the small side. The Tidy Cat ones seem smaller than the Fresh Step ones though. Maybe Tidy Cat would be better for Bantams. Anyway, I took them all out and replaced them with larger storage bins I got a Wal-Mart... but you know what... she didn't like those either, and still deposits eggs in the corners of the roosts.

Anyway click for pic: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xcVVLcYFRZ4/T32CiVQO0kI/AAAAAAAADaY/kqs8XHvTau0/s400/Raised%2BNesting%2BBuckets.JPG

I turned mine around though and cut out the bottoms. That way I left the lids on and had them sticking out of the back of my coop, so I could just open the lid for easy egg retrieval. Yeah... it was a good theory.

We have several that we use for a variety of reasons. For camping they aere great. But the very best thing I have reused cat littler container for were as toy boxes. We moved from California to Missouri when our two youngest children were 3 and 9. I got two containers, decorated them with contact paper and made a pillow for the top. It all matched, one for a boy and one for a girl. We knew we would be living in our RV and a motel for about a month until we could move into our home.
I gave each of the kids a container decorated just for them and told them they could take what ever toys they wanted that would fit in the new toy boxes. And to chose carefully because that was all the toys they would have for a long time. It worked out so good. My 3 year old packed Legos and small cars, my daughter took doll clothes for her "baby" and books. Plus they had a stool to sit on at night around the camp fire. I stll have one of them. It made clean up easy and they just took what was special.

we use them for composting tools also. and for holding the recyclables before they go to the curb.
