I was thinking with canning season in full swing in some areas and coming up on us in the Northeast that these would be wonderful items to have...
Anyone interested in doing this? We could do it a few times a year if you like?
The idea is in Mary Janes Farm Magazine, June/July 2011 issue.

Sign-ups for this round until July 4th. Partners will be posted on the 5th. Mail out by July 18th.

One Dish Drainer Quilt per exchange partner, add-in's are up to you.

This month's theme Fruits and/or Vegetables
How about tucking in your favorite recipe for canning?

Ok, I am new to this... a Dish Drainer Quilt swap. We each make a Dish Drainer Quilt of the theme and mail it off to an exchange partner? Any certain specs for the quilt? You can count me in!

Can someone direct me to a pattern for this project please? I'd like to see if I have or can get the materials before I commit.

Thank you!
Melanie

I love that tutorial that Elaine posted - sewing the fabric to a hand towel. What a terrific idea. The one in the Mary Janes Farm Magazine has a ruffle and seems to be about the size of a "Fat Quarter" the inside is low loft batting. Doesn't look heavily quilted, basically a stitch and turn project. I see possibilities for Rick Rack, Ragg Edge, woven strips, etc.

Mainly it needs to be absorbent, wash and dry-able, You need to be able to set a glass on there without it tipping over. Does that help with your decision?

Well, I signed up for this swap and then I started reading about the trouble with the iron on batting. I made one from the site Elaine mentioned and did some top stitching as I used a quilting pattern. It turned out ok, not good enough to send to someone. I went to the quilt shop and told her my problem. She suggested Pellon iron batting and to use a steam cloth to adhere it. I'm going to try this and will let you all know. Hope it works!

OK, I'm ready-Let's go.

I love Pellon Products! Good luck - maybe this time is the charm?
I went digging in my fabric stash today and am going to do a couple. Hopefully this weekend. If it keeps raining - for sure this weekend.
