I'm going to try the one with towel as a base first and see if it's gift worthy.

I did the one with the towel base and did a quilt motif for the top. I love how it looks and it dries quickly. Good luck Pilar.

OK, I'm ready-Let's go.

I'd be happy to join in this. They are so easy to make. I did two already for our farm friend gifts.

I like the idea of using a towel for one layer.

Are we supposed to use fruit or vegetable fabric? Is that the idea?

I'd love to join in on this, but I will be out of the country until July 8 and not back to my sewing machine until the 10th. But put me down, I have a day to make one before I leave. LOL!

Will the partners be sending to each other, or surprise partners? Just curious.

OK, it rained a little today (finally) so I could sit at the sewing machine and try the dish drainer quilt with the Pellon iron on Fleece. It Works! I used a really HOT iron and very slowly ironed across the top, let it soak the heat in and then moved it a little more. I also had it on the steam setting. I am very happy with the results. I had a little trouble with getting the ruffle even, but that can be worked out. I love the quilt and can't wait to use it. Now to make one for my swap!

OK, I'm ready-Let's go.

I'd like to suggest that if you are using the towel method (which I am) it would be best to wash the fabric and the towel first, since they will shrink differently after constructed otherwise.

i made one the other night just to try it out. I used the extra fabric from an apron i made the day before. for the batting i used cotton batting doubled. but it could have been more absorbent. I am going to try one with a towel next.

If you are using the towel I don't believe you use additional batting. I guess you could, but it might get too thick.

THis sounds like such fun. I can't sew just now but I have been following the posts with interest and am thinking Christmas gifts, so I'll probably join one at some point (although I like the veggie idea.)I'd love to see pics of how these turn out. Happy sewing, ladies. Joey

I practiced today using an old towel cut to size and some scraps of fabric I had around (no extra batting). I have to say I'm very pleased with the results, a lot easier than I expected.

I have pieces of cotton batting from my quilt projects. One layer of batting is just fine. You want it to be able to dry fairly quickly. I basically layered it, hand basted the three layers together and then did some quick simple quilting. Then I will add binding to mine, just because that is the habit I am in from quilting.

So glad that everyone is having fun with this! It sounds like the excitement is building....

I will start a list of everyone that is signed up and put it in the original post. Then, On July 5th I will put all of the names in a hat and partner with the name I pull out of the hat as I go down the list, I will write the name I pulled out next to the original list. Sound OK?

Have made two of these. One with a towel backing and one with the batting. Both work great, dry quickly and are so pretty. Can't wait to see who my swap partner is.

OK, I'm ready-Let's go.
