Quick note: Patty--LOVE the leather look wall--I'm glad you had two different papers, adds a lot more interest. I might be asking you a lot more questions about how to do it.......
Penny, you lucky girl, you with such a sweet DH, all I really ever wanted was to be loved and appreciated, but I managed to get two who were takers and not givers. I wonder how many of you gals are bikers? It is on my secret bucket list. Is there a singles site for "old bikers" haha if so I might go shopping there. I'm probably more of a scooter gal than a biker gal :))) b the way where do you find those cute icons to put in these messages.

Peggy: so glad you're almost done moving. that was so sweet of your son to get you a tv. my mouth dropped open when i read that. (you ARE spoiled, lol)now if the cake is chocolate, then i would say it's perfect!

Betty: speaking of lost keys reminds me of when we hauled our trash to the dump and they have those huge bins and i had my car keys and trash in the same hand and threw them all into the dumpster. I was SOO shocked that I let go of the keys too. the people said if they dug for them (YUK) they would just go to the bottom, so we didn't even try, except to search around on top a little. we only have the other key to the car now and it's a daewoo with no dealership in town that can make a key for it. might have to go to SC to the dearlership there someday, just hate to make the trip.

Janet: the labels idea sounds cute and do-able for me. i like the idea.

Patty: my hubby squinted at the paper wall, we both loved the textured look and i think more than 2 kinds of paper is best, but is the texture bumpy or smooth? love the idea for using the trivets, so pretty.

Penny: I'm so tickled for you getting that wood cook stove. my mama had one for a little while. i always wanted one, but had no place for it. hmm, wonder how long it takes to get from franklin, nc to washington, ga for a pig picken... went to one in my lifetime, was sooo goood. get rested up gf

hubby helped me last night to do up a huge half bushel of apples. we peeled, cored and sliced them up for apple butter. first batch was so good and these babies were NOT going to make it through the winter, so ya, more work, but oh, it tastes so good. lol i need some serious rest gf's. glad to take time to read some of this forum, but hate to get up off the chair. lol later

Make my words soft and tender, for I may have to eat them. :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! Wow, this is an active forum, I can see it's going to keep me on my toes! {laughing}

Brenda - I'm with you on the dental work. I'm such a chicken when it comes to anything dental. I'll worry for weeks that I'm going to choke to death {laughing} But I've got to admit, that's never happened. And once I get out of the dental office, I'm always glad I found the courage and got the work done.

Patty - those rabbits you made are adorable! I'm going to have to try to get my creative juices flowing here, after seeing all the neat things you ladies have made. I've spent the last 4 years pretty much only making virtual things online.

PeggyAnn - what a beautiful birthday cake! You're sooo lucky to live near your family and friends and be able to celebrate your birthday with them! Glad you had a wonderful birthday!

Wow, hard for me to believe some states had snow yesterday! We had a beautiful sunny day, although cooler than normal. Today we're back to cloudy. I'm already longing for summer {laughing}

Patty - you are one talented woman! The photos are marvelous! Wish you were here for the Junque Sale - I can only begin to imagine all the stuff you would re-purpose!

Hey, gf, your Cardinals WON. What a game! Fingers crossed for Game Seven. Sorry, you Rangers fans. I have to root for the Cards.

Penny - wow! All you biker chicks must be strong! I doubt I could sit for a minute without falling over. I've dreamt of riding but would never, ever try it! I've never had a broken bone and don't want one now -- God willing I'll make it to "old age" without that experience. I'm still suffering flare ups from when I was test riding a new bicycle 11 years ago and the brakes were hair-trigger - I didn't know it and when I went to slow down - I went over and besides the sprain - the bike pedal messed up my left ankle something awful. Didn't break it though.

Your new stove sounds cool - (That's almost an oxymoron.) You enjoy it, sweetheart. And let us know how it works out.

Have a wonderful weekend with the pig-pickin' --- Happy Birthday to your DH.

Glenda - your "driveway repairmen" make me shudder. Right now there have been a number of break-ins in Oakhurst. A couple was caught - and we thought it was over - but it seems there is a ring - getting bolder and bolder. They will make a mistake one day soon; I hope. We have neighbors on 2 sides keeping an eye on our place (which is just about in the middle of a couple of acres) while we are in Cupertino.

Now your unprintable Harley story, gf, has me so curious I can hardly stand it!

Oh, and what Penny said about the icons on the Edit screen ... I just copied the coding - and noted the description - onto a sticky note so I don't have to go in and out of Edit each time I want to use one.

Oh, Patsy, you mean you couldn't bring yourself to go dumpster diving for your keys? Gee, gf, how come?

Okay, I am coming clean (right after the dumpster remark) .... I haven't canned anything in years. I have the desire ... just not the "stuff." Apple butter sounds delicious! I hope I still have the energy once we complete the "move" to Oakhurst. We've had the house for over 3 years now. Maybe DH will actually retire next year. You farmgirls who are "getting ready for winter" are making me jealous. Seriously.

Ruby, guess I better check the national weather - - - s.n.o.w.? Well, we had snow here in the Bay Area for a few hours - in March, 35 years ago. Today is supposed to be pleasant - in the mid-70s. I'm hoping it holds, at least thru next Saturday. Although I'm ready for fall/winter ... I need it to be really nice for just one more week. (Prayer.)

Now I have to go pull out the suitcases and start packing for Maui - to make myself feel better about not having anything canned and put up for winter. We leave a week from Sunday. Oh wait, I have some Halloween candy in the closet. Chocolate! That will take care of me instantly! Oh shoot. I am now looking at one of my sticky notes that says: Keep carrots, celery and otehr veggies handy for snacks. Etc.

Ladies, I'll see you all later...probably with chocolate breath.

Chocolate Kisses .....

Hello everyone,

I am so out of touch. I received a nice phone call from Darlys and a nice email from Penny and they both made my day. I sometimes get so spun up in life here on the hill that I can not see past my immediate needs. I forget how important people are and how glad I am to have contact until someone jolts me out. Thank you for thinking Iam important enough to call and email.

I started to read page 100 last night and then the internet quit on me. So, I went to bed.

Now the phone has rung and I am going to deal with one of my son's.

Holey Moley!

I tell ya...page 112 and I am trying to catch up from 2 days ago. there are so many things that are happening to each that I feel like I should start a journal with info on each person, just to keep up. I looked for the stcky notes, but I found that I have an older computer that doesn't have that capability. So I will try to stick to my pen & paper. I hope to have everybody right who is doing things, but if I screw a few things up, please forgive me.

Betty, I love your wall.It really looks outstanding. What do you think you will do to clean it?...spot clean? A friend did a similar thing with tissue paper and then painted it rose. It was for one wall...accenting some portraits she had done in watercolor. It was outstanding. I am glad that your g-dtr loved her embroidered quilt. I see so many young people who have not yet developed an appreciation of handmade things. Good for her.

Patty, I think you did the right thing in calling the police for the salesman. One never knows who could pass themselves off as a salesman, delivery person etc. I think each company should make rules that there should be no solicitations after dark.

Patsy, my daughter moved to Tampa. Her husband works for Shriners International, and until she moved down after the kids were out of school & she graduated with her Masters, SIL Jeremy lived on Pelican Island very close to the gulf. when they found their home, they moved away from the water, but I guess there is water everywhere. I tested her the other day that it had been 18 degrees in the am, & she neener neenered me that when she got home from being at school, she changed into shorts. She is a speech Language Practitioner there. Hence, I have no clue what to expect. She told me the other day that they went to a home depot and they had more gardening supplies. I'm putting everything to bed, and she's getting bedding plants in. she has been spooked by black racer snakes though!! Eeeks! I'm a pansy when it comes to snakes.

Glenda, Brenda and Darlys...my appt with the specialist went well. It all started abou 18 years ago, when I had several lower teeth crack from top to bottom. Many reasons that occured, but I ended up with 2 dental implants. All pretty well and good until June, when I went in for my semi-annual dental check. some how, I had clenched my teeth through the years that I screwed up the back implant. I went to see several specialists. Not knowing, I had several abscesses down in my jaw that had eaten away the jaw bone about 3/4 of an inch. since I had implants, I had no feeling and didn't know. Anywya, I had surgery in June to have the cracked implant removed, remove the abscess etc, and they put cadaver bone in my jaw. Sutured, many antibiotics, some pain pills and this was my 16 week check. The cadaver bone is becoming mine, and since I have been eating good protein, the other areas are regenerating new bone. Phew! Don't ever want to go through that again. Dental implants are great, I just had a problem or 2. I also found that insurance doesn't pay for that, so about $4000 later, my mouth is fixed.

I also loved the stories told. do many of you journal and write old stories of your family and yourself to hand off to your kids/grandkids to have? I wish I had jotted down tidbits that my Mom & Dad talked about when I was young. Now Dad is gone, and Mom at 93 has forgotten alot.

Well, I don't want to eat up another page for you all to read, and this is long enough, so I'll close. Take care and I'll be anxious to read some more tidbits from you gals!!

Good evening.... just a short note to catch up on everyone's post...lol . Wait a minute...not so short now that there are so many great ladies that like to chat. :) I am loving this forum.

Mel- I am so addicted to pinterest! I spend most of my time on there...lol. You might me able to search for me with my email address... thebyrdhaus@sbcglobal.net

Nancy and Kathleen- I think homemade and reused gifts can be just as nice. Besides my grandchildren are small and outgrow their toys so fast. My kids would be just as happy with something personalized... besides at future family get togethers it gives them something they can make fun at. Like the way the make fun of the haircuts I use to give them and the halloween costumes I would make.

Thelma- The Jiffy cake mixes would be a great idea for the easy back oven but my granddaughters have wheat allergies so I have to make the mixes gluten free.

Sondra- Now that you are part of our fun group, I hope you hang around and we see you often. :)

Holly- So glad all is well with you. Ya might wanna keep in touch so we don't have to send the posse after you. :)

Penny- Farmgirl Sister Biker Chick! A nice looking bike! I will post a pic of my sportster. We should plan a meet-up sometime. :) You have to post pics of your new stove. I would love to see it!

PeggyAnn- Beautiful birthday cake. And who better to spend the day with but family and friends!

Patsy- The texture of the wall is not bumpy. It is pretty smooth but can tell where one piece of paper overlaps the other. Reminds me of walls in a fancy italian restaurant. It looks like leather but then sometimes it looks like marble. I can't tell you how happy I am with it.

Darlys- I listened to the game finale from my bedside radio/alarm. When I talked to hubby on the phone this morning, he said he fell asleep and wondered if they won. I told him that I listened to it, and I think they did, but maybe I was dreaming the entire thing so I wasn't for sure...lol. I will stay awake for this game. :) Gotta love those Cards!
Oh gosh, you just don't know how I would love to be there for the junque sale...lol.

Well, off to bed soon. Gonna finish watching the game from the bedroom. Have a wonderful night.

Ok, I did a no-no! I said earlier that I was making GD's Halloween outfit for the school dance. She's 12, It took me a few to get over the fact that they are having a dance at that age. Anyway, I was working on it last night so she could pick it up this morning. So last night she's at her brothers football game and texted me, "Grandma, are you working on my outfit??" Well you know I'm working on a sexy devil outfit, and I got a devilish idea. So I texted back, "What outfit?"
She called me and said grandma you are kidding aren't you? Conversation went on until DD took the phone, and said whats going on, she's got tears in her eyes. So I explaned that I was kidding and told GD that you know that I'm doing your outfit, when have I not done what was needed to do. But I told her I was just playing and I was sorry. So this morning when she stopped in to pick them up, she gave me a big hug and said she loved me! What more could a granny ask for!!! I guess the kidding will have to stop, at least for this age! Girls It seems that all are keeping busy, just got on and see that I have couple pages to read through. It's getting really good here tonight. Going to throw an extra blanket on. Will check in tomorrow. Hugs,Brenda

Good morning! Omgosh! I have even more pages to catch up on, lol! I have my 10 yr old GD this weekend and will get even more behind! Lol! As for dentists? Right there with everyone on the fear thing! I have had a few bad experiences and as a result have avoided them. Now I have a ton of work to be done as well. My family found a great dentist here and I have an appt the 2nd week of Nov. I cried as I made the appt! Really was embarrasing! Thankfully, the nurse was very kind. I am also scared of bone involvement, we will see when I get the exam. Aaaargh! Welcome to all the new ladies! Happy Birthday to you Bday gals! I will have to catch up and hope to address topics individually soon. I have windows xp? Doesn't seem to have the sticky note/notepad feature either! *Sad face* Well, I hope to check in later on. Hey, a question? Do any of you have GD that may want to do the 'farmettes' ? Earn badges together with our help. Maybe do some simple easy swaps etc. Brenda GD and my GD really want to. Thought it may be fun for others? Well, time for tea. No balcony sittin this am, its freezing out there! Lol! Have a great 6rning everyone! Farmgirl hugs, linda

Good morning,

Finally got my haircut yesterday. It was getting so long I felt like a sheepdog. My hair has a mind of its own and I find it to be quite unmanagable. It is not curly and not straight. I call it "unruly" because it does what it wants to unless it has lots of spray on it. I was one of those little girls with the braids that had little pieces of hair poking out the braid.

Patty, I like what you have done with the tiles in your laundy room. That is so oringinal. It looks so good. The brown paper is such a good idea too. I love that. I am not a bike rider but yours looks like it would be lots of fun to ride.

Peggy, your cake is so pretty. That is so great of your son to surprise you like that for your birthday. How delighted and surprised you must have been. All those people just for you! What a wonderful son.

Debra, where are you located in GA? I am near the GA border in the very northeast corner of FL. I am about 25-30 from St. Marys. I can see there from Fernandina Beach on a clear day if I am on the bridge to Amelia Island.

Glenda, Fernandina Beach the town is located on Amelia Island. The town is also located off the island on county property which is where I live. The town has a population of about 17,000 to 20,000 people.

Claudia, Yes, I came from CA to Florida about 3 years ago and had never run into any snakes there. But here in FL the black racers are abundant. Thank goodness they are afraid of people and run for their lives when they see us. The trouble is the startle me because they run out so fast that I jump and yell "snake" and then the thing is gone. Up where I am we have 2 bad snakes which are the rattle snake and the cotton mouth. I have seen 3 cotton mouth snakes. Now that is scary!! In all my life in CA I never saw one poisonous snake.

Mel, What is Pinterest? I am so curious.

Holly, I am glad to hear from you. We miss all you ladies when we don't hear from you.

I have so much ironing today. It is raining so it is a good day to do it. My DH has a lot of reading to do so maybe he will be occupied and I can get some things done without interruption. He often likes to share whatever he is doing especially if he is on the computer. So it is "come and see this" a lot of the time if you know what I mean. And as much as I might fuss it is usually something good or really funny.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Nancy #2301

Hey to Cindy and Mary. I am a partimer here. It is hard for me to get on line during the week so I try and catch up on the weekends. So if I missed any new people or birthdays...Howdy and Happy birthday.

I loved the leather look on the wallpaper and also the tiles in the laundry room Patty.

Nancy, I live 30 Miles N.E. of Atlanta. Near Lake Lanier.

I too would like to know about Pinterest? What is that?

I am going to a Halloween Party tonight. It is in Toccoa Georgia. In the montains. Our friends live there and when you walk out their front door the mountain is right there. They said that you can see every tree color this time of year.
I have made a costume. I am going to blacken my eyes (with makeup) and have sewn 3 P's on my sweatshirt. What am I?
Have a good day.

Sort of like having an idea board on your wall but online! It lets you organize and share ideas and likes you find on the web....with other like minded folks! You can use these boards to plan parties and weddings, to decorate and share recipes......an entire plethora of ideas!!!! Check it out......you will be amazed! www.Pinterest.com

Deb...have a great time at the Halloween party!! C3PO?

Hey Mary....where is Troy located?

I missed who said they have XP and no notepad....you don't have sticky notes but notepad is there! :)

OKay Guys.....have a great weekend....back to pinning!!!!!!! :)

Oh my goodness I need to keep up with this post. I think I signed in way back on page 60 something LOL. I've just been so busy with real life lately that I don't always get in here to check things out or spend enough time when I do. I see at least one other Pinterest addict in Mel. I know Annika and I are over there. I usually drop in there at night before I close my eyes just to see what is new. And yes I am ADDICTED LOL. It's another great place to learn things, like did you know you can get dried latex paint out of clothing using rubbing alcohol? I sure didn't and what a great thing to know and yep I learned it there. It's also nice that Mary Jane is also there and pins things from the farm :) Follow me over there and I'll do the same for you :) It's so much fun learning and knowing other people love the same things we do. I like to share Mary Jane's posts over there with my followers in hopes we bring in new farm girls :) Have been busy decorating for Halloween here and recovering from some minor surgery. Hubby is nearing the end of his radiation treatments for prostate cancer and I am so thankful and praying for healing for him. It's been a rough couple of months but things could be worse. I always feel blessed knowing that. Huggzz to you all and Happy Haunting :)

Cheryl, I don't think I know you, so I am glad you are checking in. I am sorry about your hubby. Think that he needs to be added to our groups prayer list too. I hope that he is not suffering ill effects from the therapy.

I went over to Pinterest and it said the way to join was to be invited. I would like to be invited if someone who belongs will let me. I also think it might be more complicated than at first glance. Anyway, I had never heard about it, but think there is a lot to learn there. Patty...Black-eyed Peas for Deb is a hoot of a good name.

Patty, I had a friend who did a leather look wall several years age. guess what? The longer it stays on the wall the better it looks. Like everything else it looks different in different lighting. You did a nice job. who knew you could make a paper bag look like leather.

Hello My wonderful Ladies...I am back. The apartment is behind me and we are now in the house. It is so nice to be done. A young lady from my Bible Study (my spiritual daughter) came over yesterday and helped me clean the apartment. Wow...she could out clean me speed wise...I think she did more than 3/4ths of the job and better than me. I guess at 38 yrs old...I was more fast-paced and a better cleaner than I am at 60. I may hire her to come over every couple of weeks to do my floors and bathrooms. That would be worth whatever she charged me.

What is Pinterest?? Some how I have missed some key point here in the posts. Is it something I want to belong to too?? Someone let me know. LOL

Penny...yes, you may take over the birthday list if you would like. You seem do seem to enjoy organizing! But I am curious why you said that you didn't get addresses with the original birthday list I sent out???? I did include addresses. As far as emailing them to every one...I just make the list. Then I copy the list. Then I go on the Over Fifty Thread and email to each sister from their posts. Very simple that way. Just paste into each persons MJF email. Does that make sense? Hope so!

Mel and Penny...thanks for keeping people posted on what was going on with me.

Welcome to Cindy and Mary!

Tall Holly...glad you made it back on. The girls were worried about you. Thanks for the lovely card for my birthday.

I know that with all the moving...I am sure that I have forgotten to Thank a few of you for your delightful birthday cards. They were so appreciated. And now I think I have enough tea to get me through the Winter. LOL *wink*

Cheryl...welcome back. I think you joined these wonderful gals shortly after I did. If there is one thing they love to do ...is chatter...you cannot afford to miss more than a day unless you want to do a lot of reading to catch-up. ha ha! Even if I couldn't post...I tried to get on every couple days and read the posts.

OK Lovelies...I am off to fold my laundry and probably go read for awhile. I almost forgot what reading is. ME...the Queen of Reading lol

blessings,
peggy

Peggy, If I said I didn't get addresses that wasn't what I meant...lol..I meant email addresses...I want to be able to send the list to everyone at one time so I have put them in a group list in my email program so I can make sure I don't skip anyone...

You are smarter than me...I didn't even think about sending the list through the over 50's board...duh...guess I thought I could only send it from my email....dang I'm a little slow...thank you for telling me that I can send it through the board...I just figured since everyone had to email me their name and addresses I could get their emails too and email everyone back from the list...

But with the ones that haven't sent me their email addresses I will just go to the board and send them the list that way...I guess my "organized" self as you stated just wanted everyone in one place....I love lists...so I now have an over 50 list on my computer.. With the list I did, it just would be easier to email from my computer instead of copy and paste, but hey, I can do it either way...

Thank you for letting me help with this...I am having a blast...

You can either request an invite to join from Pinterest or have a friend invite you. Email me at Tapestry2u@aol.com if you'd like an invite. It's so much fun there. Another place for us farmgirls to hang out and be inspired. Mary Janes a pinner too which is very nice. :)
