Darlene, that is very sweet of you. I use to work in an oncology office. It was so heartbreaking to see how many people are affected by cancer. And it’s even sadder when you see the ones who don’t have a support system. Those little things you are doing, are really making a difference in someones life. That is truly an amazing thing you are doing.

Oh Darlene,, what a sweet idea...

I will check in with out Local Oncology/chemo facility next to Sacred Heart Hospital,, and see if they have such a program..

I make neck scarves from recycled cashmere sweaters.. I will check to see if they have guide lines as to what 'yarns' are ok to use.

I know wool has lanolin and for some it can be irritating,, hopefully cashmere or mohair will be ok.

What a great idea,,, Thanx for sharing it with us.

I didn't make it, but I asked my DH to make me a mushroom for my teenie Gnomes.. I luv the way it turned out, so I asked him to make a few more for my soon to be 'Fairy Garden'...

I see lots of 'organic' mushrooms in my future to have fun with.

Krista, working in the Oncology office, I guess you've seen it all too! I know how it felt as an adult but the poor little kids just break my heart. They
don't even have the words to explain some of the side effects! One day I was waiting for a friend toget a biopsy and I had taken blankets and pillows
for the kids. While I was sitting there a little boy and his mother came out and the girl asked him if he wanted a blanket or pillow. He took both. She
then said, the lady that made them is over there. He came running over and hugged and thanked me. That's the first time I saw a child recipient. What
a tear jerker that was!

Grace, did you embroider by machine or hand? Very nice! Your hubby did a good job on the mushroom!
Here's the organization for the chemo group:

Grace, your mushroom is so cool! Your husband did an excellent job! I can’t wait to see your fairy garden.

Darlene, that brought tears to my heart. Children are so sweet and innocent. It terrible to see them go through cancer. I was blessed that I never seen any kids in our office. That would have made it so much harder.

Grace and Krista, that little boy took my breath away! It makes me cry now when I think about him! We have a lot to be thankful for, don't we?
Healthy kids and grands!
Grace, is it hard to learn the machine embroidery? I had a friend that had a really hard time with her machine. Yours looks beautiful.

Darlene,, Yes & No...

I have a learning challenge,, in that, unlike most people,, I have difficulties learning.. my brain does not process things I
read (1 dimensional).. I learn by seeing... I have to visually see how something is done and then commit to memory.
Trying to read the guide book was like trying to read Greek.. So I stopped in at several shops that sold embroidery machines and they gave me 'mini' lessons..

I also had to just sit down and start pushing buttons ... I am getting better,,, and very comfortable with my machines.
I recently bought a new embroidery machine, that stitches up to a 5x7 design,, but it operates different then my other machine,, so I am learning all over again... lol!

If you are interested I would suggest the Brother PE500, it is simple to use, but only does a maximum 4x4 size design.. but is under $400
I had a Bernina Deco embroidery machine that I luv'd,,, but sold it recently. (it needed reader cards)..
The machine I just bought,, I can down load patterns on a stick and then plug into my machine..
My PE500 I have to down load the pattern and send it over via a USB cable..
I luv being able to whip up little quickie gifts..

Grace, I like to see and then do myself. I just don't get the instructions. I'm not that computer savvy either. As you know, I haven't posted a picture. One day I'll learn! I'll have to check some machines out one day.
You don't seem like you have a learning problem to me with all the beautiful things you whip up.
I better get to bed. It's almost 1:30! Catch you later!

Grace, I have to give a shout out to you for the box you sent. They may have been little odds and ends you couldn't use but I can! This is how I repurpose ribbons (and show them off). I used push pins and tape to attach to the back of the frame. When I have a need for a ribbon it's easy to remove.

I decided to play around with my new embroidery machine ( I had an hour to kill before heading over to our daughter's house.)
Here is what I made...

I do practice runs and write notes next to the design for future reference..

Then I made this little mini table topper...

sorry, Kiki wanted to have a photo OP moment!
here is a close up...

I made another one the other day, but used lilac colored thread.. and mailed it to an old friend of mine.

Love the mushroom and table toppers Grace! My mother in law would go nuts for the mushroom. Your hubby could easily sell them!

Vanessa - I love the ribbon frame! What a great idea. Sure beats searching though a bag everytime I'm looking for a little piece of ribbon.

I made a bunch of hair scrunchies for my niece's birthday and myself:

I had a fuzzy lined sweatshirt that the zipper broke on so I made a couple pair of mittens from it:

Not sewing/craft related but here's the birthday cake topped with little debbies - my niece LOVED it!

It's got hearts around the bottom and on the top with swiss cake rolls around the top layer. The other side of the sign says happy birthday Paige since there's no room for writing with icing on top.

Actually, it is crochet. The cuffs are made with a stitch which looks like a knit stitch (front and back double crochet).

Heather, I just seen a crochet scrunchie pattern yesterday that I saved to make lol! Apparently they are making a huge come back with the little girls so I figured I could whip some up for me and be in the cool crowd again!

Grace, your embroidery is so beautiful! I really like that shade of red.

Marie, love the slippers. They look so warm and cozy.

We have some very high and cold winds. So I will be staying in cuddled up under a blanket working on some crochet. And Grace, tea sounds lovely right now!

Krista - Those sound like a great idea! I can't wait to see one. I'm surprised how well my scrunchies are working in my hair. My hair is very long but so thin and fine it seems to slip out of everything - even braids! You'll have to let me know how the crochet one's work.

I haven’t tried a scrunchie yet. I got sidetracked lol. I took down my Valentines decorations and now my fireplace looks bare without any garland so I decided to crochet some shamrock garland. We have company coming over on Sunday so I would like to have it done before then. Have quite a few projects going on right now.
