Okay, time to get ready. I thought I would first give a list of ingredients for you to purchase, so that you will have everything you need and be ready to go.

You will want to have: half gallon and gallon jars or something similar, spray bottles for liquid cleaners, measuring cups, as well as big bowls and spoons for mixing, a grater and labels for your containers.

You will need: Borax (mule train) laundry booster, baking soda, washing soda, Castile soap, liquid and bar, distilled water, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, ammonia, and essential oils. Lavander,(repels insects), Tree Tea antibacterial and fungicide), Lemon, Orange, or Tangerine (grease cutters).
This should do it. Happy Greening!

Recipe #1

Powder Laundry Soap

1 bar (4-6 oz) Castile soap, grated
2 cups Borax
2 cups Washing Soda
1 cup Baking Soda
Essential oil (optional)

Combine all ingredients. Add several drops of essential oils. I like to use Teatree oil as it has fungal/anti-bacterial properties.

Place is covered jar. To use: 1/4 - 1/2 cup per load, depending on type of water and type of washer. This is a low suddsing detergent.

Julia, I have everything but the ammonia to start. Can't wait to be done with all my chemical cleaning and use nothing but green cleaning. Thank you for doing this, it is a great help to those of us who are clueless and don't know where to begin.

You're right! Putting an apron on (especially a really cute/feminine one) gets me in the mood to clean and/or do something domestic. It makes me feel good.

Hey Kim, I was thinking about doing more than one a week. I don't want this to drag out to long and gals to loose interest, so here are some recipes to fill those spray bottles!

All Purpose Spray

1 T white vinegar
1 T lemon juice
1 T liquid Castile soap
1 T Borax
1 cup distilled water
Essential oil (optional)

Mix all together and pour into spray bottle. If you want to use essential oil, add citrus oils for cutting grease, Tea tree, lanvender, thyme or oregano to kill bacteria.

Dusting spray

1 cup distilled water
2-3 drops Essential oil (of choice)

Put into spray bottle. Spray onto cotton cloth and dust away!

Window cleaner

1/4-1/2 tsp liquid Castile soap
3 T white vinegar
2 cups distilled water

Put into spray bottle, shake gently before using.

Fungicide

2 tsp Tea Tree oil
2 cups water

Put into spray bottle and shake well. Spray on areas that are moldy or musty.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

1 gallon water
1 cup ammonia
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup baking soda

Combine and put into spray bottle.
