A new year is almost upon us and here is our first 10" square swap for 2017. For those unfamiliar with quilting terms, these 10"-squares are known as layer cake squares in the quilting world.
This swap involves no sewing (your project is determined by what you want to make with your fabric squares) - only buying fabric and cutting it into 10" squares. Please buy 100% cotton quilting fabric and cut off both selvage edges before cutting squares so there is NO selvage in the 10" squares. (NOTE: The selvages are the two tightly woven edges of the fabric - opposite the folded edge.)
This swap is for 10" squares of music-themed Fabrics. Each person who signs up will send 2 different 10" squares of music-themed fabric to each of the other farm girls who sign up. A yard of fabric will make 12 squares (with a little left over), so the amount of fabric you will need to purchase will depend on how many sign up. Please join in - all are welcome.
Signups begin today: December 29
Signups end: Noon, January 16
Mail out by: January 31
If you have not yet participated in one of these 10"-square fabric swaps, when you sign up by posting in this thread, please immediately send me your name/address/phone. The name/address is so I can send a complete list to each farm girl for mailing out to everyone; the phone number is only in case I need to contact you for any reason.
We have been enjoying these swaps and it is fun seeing all the different fabrics we choose. I hope you will join us.
NOTE: When you join in, please "Subscribe" to this topic so that you will receive all communication regarding the topic. And we all like to hear from you when you send out fabric and when you receive fabric. And please post pics of what you make in the Showcase thread. Here is a picture of my finished 10" squares music quilt. I gave it to Ed's son and his wife for Christmas. They are very active in music in their church.

I put together my Music squares, 6-1/2" squares, and travel squares at the retreat last week. Just need borders and I'm done with the tops. I'll show you soon.

Here is my music quilt top SO FAR - the star point sashing is not difficult, but there are a lot of pieces and a lot of sewing for each row. It is definitely time intensive. This is only half the quilt. When all rows and sashing are done, I'll add a border before it is quilted. What do you think?

Linda, I really like what it looks like. As far as the stars I would do what would be the easiest to assemble. I really like the stars! You are so quick at assembling all the quilts. Wow!

Your quilt is great! You could leave off the stars on the exterior altogether, so you won't have to piece the skinny exterior points.
