We finally got our first eggs! We are so excited to start collecting them and having our own fresh eggs!

So exciting! Getting fresh eggs is so much fun! I loved going up to my sister's and getting to harvest eggs from her 50 girls!

Debbie, they are so cute, because they are so tiny!
Michele, we just have 5. We wanted to start small and then add more in the future.
Wanda, it's so exciting to see how excited the kids get every time they find a new egg!
Nancy, 50 chickens?! That is crazy! Our coop is nowhere near able to hold 50.

We only have one chicken laying right now and she has already given us 6 eggs! She is going to be a big egg producer.

Heather, we made some pancakes with them over the weekend. We used all of them because you need 2 of her eggs to make 1 large egg! Now to stock up again.

Yes, Krista! She had 50 laying hens. She also raised chickens for meat - 60 at a time! I used to go up and help with the harvesting of them! I was also able to help harvest a beautiful elk. She hunted with a bow and arrow, no gun! She was an amazing shot! Great meat, freezers always full! She sold meat and eggs, too! And then her husband wanted to move to Tennessee! No more chickens and no harvesting of elk on their property! I miss it!
My offer still stands if you ever decide to raise meat chickens. I will happily travel from Southern California to your farm to help with the harvest!

Nancy, that is awesome! I would definitely need more land before I could get that many. My hubby and I have been keeping our eyes open for a place with more acres that fits our needs. For sure I will get meat chickens then!
Our second chicken is now laying eggs!

We are still waiting for 2 more chickens to start laying eggs. One should be any day now and the other has probably about another month.

First eggs is very exciting for everyone. Plus you get to make sure their feed is healthy and that they are kept safe from predators. Enjoy those eggs for various meals too.

I agree Winnie! Our chickens are kind of spoiled and get yummy treats from the garden. We can't share with just the cows lol! I have been using most of my eggs for my baking, but Everleigh loves to make herself a scrambled egg for breakfast every weekend.

How fun and healthy to have your own eggs! You know whats going in them. Do you get 2 a day? Usually some will lay every other day. There are some breeds that lay everyday though. Growing up we had hundreds of chicken. My dad was known as the local chicken farmer. I always loved watching mom candle them and grade them. She had a little scale she put them on. I did not however like butchering time. Enjoy those fresh eggs!

Denise, it depends on the day. Today we got 3! One from each of the chickens laying. Some days it's 1, but normally we get about 2 a day. Tilton's chicken lays eggs about 6 times a week. So almost every day. That's really neat you had so many chickens! I know my kids wish we had that many. I would have to find a way to use all those eggs.
