Mr. Bird is feeding us out of our home. He is so funny, all he wants to do is eat all day. Any one have experience with this gorgeous parakeet? Should we feed it when it wants? He eats many fruits. He is adorable.

Hi, Joan! Don't know anything about parrots, but I love to watch birds! They are just too cute. My Husband and I sit on our patio and watch them eat and play in the bird baths that we have set up for them. So relaxing and fun. We have a couple of hawks that visit our yard, too. They love to splash in the bird baths! Have fun with your new buddy!

We feed out wild birds with several different food options. What fun and total awe it is to watch these incredible critters fill our back yard restaurant with their presence. On my way right now to fill up some feeders. Despite the heat and lots of pop up rain storms, they just come in between to fill up. Mother Nature is incredible in caring for her critters by giving them what they need to weather the weather.

Mr. Bird is so funny. I love the fact you all take care of out door birds. We do the same here. Hugs.

Hi Joan!
I've had birds as pets for as long as I can remember. This is from my own experience, but I leave non-perishable food out (either a high quality seed mix or pellets or a mix) at all times. Fresh "chop" (i.e. chopped veggies/sprouted grain/small amount of fruits) can be given in the morning and then removed after about an hour or so to prevent spoilage. Water available at all times. There are some things parrots should never have, like avocado, onion, garlic, caffeine, dairy, chocolate...you can look up lists of toxic items online. As a side note, birds are particularly sensitive to fragrances, some essential oils (especially when diffused), and accidentally overheating a Teflon/non-stick pan will kill them (note that I said "overheating"; as in, left forgotten while heating on the stove). All that being said, there are good resources online for more info.
Monk parakeets AKA Quakers are very engaging and wonderful imitators as I'm sure you are finding out!

How SWEET!!! I have a friend who has one and when her family goes on trips I get to babysit! The chatter and whistles Crack me up. Such smart birds and yes, insatiable appetites!

You're welcome, Joan! What a sweetie. Can you read the band number? It will usually tell you what state/date they were born. I had our bird's removed during a nail/wing trim eventually. You can microchip them for ID now. :)
