Hi everyone, we are getting closer to our annual Apple Festival here at MJF! I am offering a giveaway to have some fun. All I need you to do is leave me a post of something about apples. It could be your favorite varieties , apple trees on your property, apple picking experiences, or anything else that you can share about apple fun. It could also be a book you found and enjoyed on apples.

Lets share what we know and enjoy on this topic and help kick off this upcoming Annual Apple Festival.

Sign ups go through August 29 and I will select a winner on August 30th.

I am happy to reply that Krista's name was chosen from my apple basket! Congratulations Krista and I hope you have a wonderful September and apple season!!

So we have this large tall apple tree in the back that we see from our deck just a Beautiful Apple Tree. The branches are so heavy with apples that one of the large branches had crack but did not fall to the ground. The problem is all the apples are in the top of the tree. When we get winds which sometimes is daily some will be blown to the ground. But never those pretty red ones at the top of the tree. We have tried everything to get them down, extension ladder, bringing our truck to the back by the tree and fashioned a long, long stick with hook to shake them down from the bed of the truck . So what next we wondered without having to call someone out and pay them to get the apples from the top for us. I would even share. So my guys will think on it some more until the next wind comes or another branch cracks from so many apples on it. I seriously believe this is what the guys are hoping for. And that’s life at the Fischer Place!
Have a great weekend everyone.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I love having apple trees. We had one in NJ and we have one here. The one in jersey was loaded with blossoms and always had lots of apples but they never grew very big. The tree we have here has very few blossoms but the apples are bigger. Not huge but big enough to get some apples and make apple sauce or apple butter. We love to go picking at the farms here. Nothing like picking them fresh from the tree! I love all varieties and enjoy trying new ones I've never had.

We have two apple trees on our property. One is a Granny Smith and one is a honey crisp. We have a huge crop to pick from both trees. The honey crisp is ready now!!! I love having these and our other fruit trees on our property!! :) All of them are beautiful during the spring when they are loaded with blossoms!

My parents have several apple trees on their land in western Wisconsin. I'm not sure what type they are, but they produce lots of apples. After dumping a load of apples on their compost, to the delight of local deer, they bought an apple press to make juice. Now they contact the nearby Amish family to gather the apples and in return they get a delicious apple pie.

I don't have an apple or apple tree story to share but I am a fan of all vintage linens and kitchen decor with apples on them. Several years ago, Linda "quiltee" gifted me an apron made from a vintage tablecloth with apples on it.

Thank-you everyone with your stories about apples. They are wonderful to hear and lean a new piece of information of each person. Vanessa, I think that your parents have a great deal going with giving the Amish the apples for an apple pie in return. YUM!!

This will be my first year getting an apple from my own apple tree! We planted the tree last year, so I was very excited to see it have apples this year. The tree only has 3 remaining apples. The rest have fallen off on their own or in our bad wind. But 3 is better then none. And they are looking like a decent size too.

We have one apple tree on our land and it a Granny Smith , I haven't learned how to take care of it properly yet. The apples get black spots on them #128577;we do like taking the kids to the town cannery and make apple sauce each year with apples we buy in town . Ellijay is known for their apple orchards .

I planted a new variety to me apple tree a few years ago. It is called a zestar this year it is loaded with delicious sweet crunchy apples. They are just starting to ripen and we have been enjoying the in our harvest lunches.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Julie, I am very familiar with Zestar apples because they are often one of the earliest to arrive for eating. We have a grocery store down here that sometimes gets them in stock. I first learned about them when I used to visit Mercier Orchards in North Georgia with a friend . Zestar and Ginger Gold were the first varieties of apples to be ready by late August and early September. I know you are enjoying them!

Krista, congratulations on having some apples from your first tree! That is great and I do know it takes a few years for an apple tree to establish itself and grow more apples to enjoy.

I have a wonderful book I used to read to my elementary classes. From Kinders to 5th graders they all loved it. It’s about giving and receiving. A little old woman woke one morning in the mood for an apple cake. She had plenty of flour, sugar and butter, but no apples. So she decided she would head to the market in search of apples. She grabbed a basket and filled it with beautiful plums from the tree in her yard, thinking that on the way she might find someone with plenty of apples that she can swap. She encountered many people and swapped her plums for a bag of feathers, a gold chain for a bouquet of flowers, a little dog and a blessing for a gold chain. All giving and receiving along the way because she always had what the next person needed. In the end she was able to bless a lonely man with a sweet little dog to keep him company, and he shared some apples on his tree with her. It’s a beautiful story of kindness.

That sounds like a wonderful book.

I'm not familiar with zestar apples, but next week I'm getting a big bushel bag of ginger golds from the orchard. They are wonderful dried for snacks!

Yep, our grafted apple tree is loaded this year, and like Debbie's the branches are nearly on the ground from the weight..
We have had issues with 'Cottle moth' infestation and much to my chagrined, we had to spray the tree several time,,
We should have removed the excessive apple buds, oh well.
Our apples are still about a month out,,
I wish I knew what type of apples they are, 2/3rd of the tree are red and 1/3 are green (grafted on by previous owner).
But on the plus side, as I wait to start baking 'AppleBrownBetty' in the mean time I picked a flat of organic peaches from a farm up in Spokane,, and last night I made a 8x8" pan of Peach Cobbler,, and yes, we ate the whole thing last night! :>)
Still have 10 peaches to make another one,, and I prepped froze the rest of the peaches (2 -one gallon zippy bags full)..for later use as I wait for my apples to ripen.

I don't know about you ladies,, but I have already started stocking up on my autumn apple spiced scented candles.. September can't get here fast enough for me!...

Oh, and Heather, that reminds me,, I also need to dehydrate some of the apples... Thanks for the reminder...
