Hubby and I did a little junktiquing the other day and Lookie what I found,,,
A crochet apron,, this makes my 3rd crochet apron in my collection.
It’s hard to see the tiny stitches but I am in awe of the person who did all this work.
It even has a little pocket. (I tucked a wee lavender sachet in the pocket.

So it got me to thinking, what was my 1st apron…
Here is my story.. my beloved Oma, had an apron made from strips of trim.. yards and yards and yards! ( it’s well over 75 years old)
I so loved it that when she passed away, my mother kept the apron for years and just before I got married , mom gave the apron to me and it stayed in my Hope chest.
I never wore it for cooking , it was more of a decorative apron to be worn with a Dirndl dress.

So, what is your apron story?

To make this fun and interesting, I gathered up 2 yards of fabric and a apron pattern.
I will keep this post active for 2 weeks, enough time for everyone who would like, to share their 1st or favorite apron story.
After the 2 weeks I will put all participants names in my hubby’s baseball cap and let him draw a name… and I will announce the winner and get the fabric and pattern into the mail.
It’s that easy… I look forward to reading your story.

Remember July 9th is the last day to share your story.

It is truly sweet. I hand laundered it and rinsed it in lavender water. It smells so clean and fresh now.

Such a work of art you found, Grace. I have worn aprons all my married life, 40 years this year. I really don't recall my first apron. I do have a Christmas half apron my ma had made, and the child size one that was for my sisters or myself. Us three girls would of all had an apron, all made to match. I am a messy cook, so the apron saves the clothes I am wearing, haha.
I think one of the first things I made for 4-H dress revue, was either an apron or a skirt. Memories.

Wow Grace, that is so beautiful,I have never seen a crotchet apron. My grandmother is the only woman I ever saw wear an apron. She had two daughters, so I’m pretty sure they inherited her aprons. . Since joining MJF I have been collecting them when I find in thrift stores.

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Grace, I NEED to come looking with you!! :) What a great find!

I have a small collection of aprons. I didn’t start using them until about 8 or 9 years ago. Now I use them all the time. I don’t remember what my first apron was but I’m sure it was from a thrift store! I love items that tell a story. I think aprons do that so well because of the wear and tear they receive. I have a few aprons from thrift stores or antique stores, a few from MJF swaps, and one that my daughter made me. Some hang in my kitchen, others hang on my back door. :)

Karen :)

To quote one of my past preschoolers “Not one of those Karens, but a good Karen”! Haha

Grace, that is a stunning apron. That took someone quite a long time to make. You are always finding the best things. Enjoy your new apron.

I have 3 or 4 crocheeted aprons, but none are as complex as the one you just found. Beautiful work.

I will try to find them and take a picture. I think at least 2 of mine are the exact same pattern; one if red and white and one is purple and white.

I love all aprons, handmade, hand crochet, store bought.. but my all time favorite aprons are those Dime-store terry/towel-cloth aprons printed with some have silly sayings like,
"I Hate Housework", or florals or Christmas themed aprons..
I found one terry cloth apron at a Thrift, and in the pocket was a little Christmas gift tag, "From Marge to Alice, Merry Christmas"... I guess Alice never used it :>)
